Since when did this Gabe bloke write the whole game himself

ok guys, a couple of questions.

i've bought the retail dvd and its installed and its all working great.

but

1) can i install it on my brothers computer if i give him my steam login details so he can play it?

2) why does it still ask for the dvd to be in the drive to play it if i've installed and unlocked it?

3) how do i put steam into offline mode so i dont have to load it up through steam - instead i can just double click on the shortcut on my desktop.

OMGOMG, stop being stupid and play the ****ing game not check the thread every 5 minutes. You're going to end up reading something that'll ruin the game and it'll be all because you came to this thread instead of playing the game.

Is there a way to back up the game ( I bought it via Steam) onto a DVD? I?ve heard there is a special command for that...

Right click on the Half Life 2 in the games box in steam and select backup game. You can also copy over all your cfg files from your steam directory to a dvd. Search the forums here there a nice little program that helps you reinstall it all!

What the hell are you blabbing about? If checking the thread every 5 minutes equals checking it every hour or so, then yes, I check it every five minutes. Second of all, Im not even home so I cant play the damn game, and thirdly why the hell do you care? Mind your own business. You make yourself look like a jackass. The only thing that has quote "ruined" the game for me was when some idiot posted a screen of the last part. The mods already said to limit the amount of postings with spoilers in it. Get a life.

i am getting repeated sounds, problem is IT COMPLETELY LOCKS THE PC!

its as if the game reads the sounds directly from the hd and does not precache them....

can't even pass the first game, it locks up when the train horns or something

it even locks up at the title sometimes....

heeelp

using nforce 2 soudnstorm with 9600xt (4.12beta)

Well i've played it for about 2 maybe 3 hours, and it is one exceptional game.

The beginning running round the city with no weapons being chased was excellent. It was matrix-esque running through the apartments and up stairs.

Great, great game so far. Loving that they give you an air boat so soon aswell! :p

Over and out for now.

I've searched but found no such problem addressed yet. At a set amount of time after I have started playing (say about twenty minutes) the game slows to half a frame a second then the system becomes unresponsive and I need to physically turn it on/off. Right before I think I can also hear the sound of the system connecting/disconnecting hardware.

My specs are below

Dell D600

1.8ghz P-M

1024 MB Ram

80 GB HD @ 4200 RPM

ATI Mobility 9000 w/ 32 MB VRAM

The system is docked to some external components such as a mouse, keyboard and an LCD screen.

HL2 and CS:S run fine outside of this, thanks!

    • I can answer about the Linux bit. I only used AMD GPUs. I currently have a 9060XT (8GB) that fits my needs, I'm not a gamer, so I don't need that much GDDR. But lately, NVIDIA has grown a lot in the recent years. Oh, the horrors of NVIDIA drivers not working. But they have been getting better. I know a lot of members onm here that are running cachyOS and other distros, and are fine with a 4090/5090 variants. Really, though, I would stick with AMD variants.
