[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm at the lighthouse, firing rockets at this gunship. I was told to go into the lighthouse, because they're rockets in there. And there's a secret passage way on the cliff. Now, here's where I need help, I fire rocket after goddam rocket...It never hits the bloody ship, NEVER! ......what can I do? I try just going to the secrect passage way...but I just fall down into the water.

you have to blow up the ship before you can go down the secret passage

i'll blame you as much as i want. this thread is not just for you, n00b.

And as the original threadstarter, agentsmith said, before all the threads got merged:

The excitement is at full force now. In anticipation for even more posts on this subject, this will be the official thread to discuss the following.....

Post your in game screen shots.

Requests for help (computer related as well as Steam)

General Discussion.

If you are stuck at any point in the game, post for assistance here.

Also, please keep in mind, use the spoiler tag.

i have no problems with you asking for help, and it's not going to ruin the game for me, but you seem to have never heard of discretion.

Got this game yesterday and is great.

but i want to know if some other people are experiencing this because i have not seen anything about it......

When you first start playing the game, it pauses quite frequently and says "loading" it is a little annoying as it breaks the gameplay.....when i installed the game and it was unlocking through steam....it did say that it was to busy to register and would send an email later to confirm when done...so i cannot play in offline mode yet...dunno if this makes a difference.....

cheers

LvL load, jsut 1 level loading to the next, happens online/offline

thxs for reply....i was a little surprised though....it must have attempted a load at least 4 times and i have only just reached the scientist guy right at the beginning (Gf's and HL2 don't mix :p ) but if that is normal and everybody gets it then that's cool.....guesss i need a raptor drive x2 and raid 0 :-)

Don't blame me, this is where people come for help. If you don't want it too be spoiled, I seriously don't know what the **** you're doing in this thread.

If you took the time to read my instructions, you would have seen that I flat out said if your going to post any spoliers, tag it with just that SPOILER (Y)

Can ANYONE tell me what's wrong with this picture ... ? [/b]>

haha, he's out to take over the world!

Anyways, I just beat the game...and now I'm all depressed. But I won't say why. Because you should find out for yourself. And then be depressed.

Though I have to say, the ending was pretty neat.

Edit: Is anybody having problems with the game suddenly slowing to around 2-3 frames per second, only to be fixed by changing your AA or AF settings?:

My thoughts on Half-Life 2 thus far: Its been really great, voice acting is superb and the character animations and detail are the best of any game made to date, The physics and the actual USE of physics for puzzle solveing and just fun makes it so much cooler. The graphics even on low kick ass (only reason I'm running on low is because I only have 256mb of memory and its almost unplayable because of it...), especially the outdoor environments. Well, since I'm in a rush to get back to playing, I'll just mention the bad times too. I've seen a few weird bugs so far, one being that I have to run in windowed mode or suffer a weird video problem where half the sceen is unviewable. I've used a vehicle to get someplace in a map you obviously werent supposed to be able to get to since the ground there was missing. Last, the only reason I'm typing this now and not playing is because I ran into the weirdest bug where everything stopped and the ground dissapeared, my hard drive was being accessed constantly, and everything froze, even my mouse, so I had to restart. One bit of caution: don't bother playing with 256mb of ram... seriously, it really is close to unplayable. I have a great framerate and the game runs perfect besides the studder when accesssing the hard drive sonstantly, and the 2 minute long load times every 5 minutes or so of playing. I'm hoping to get some more memory VERY soon so I can actually play this game without the frustrations I've been having so far, because the gameplay is just the best. Play Half-Life 2 if you havent already...

Hell-In-A-Handbasket before you drive me completely insane, would you PLEASE reply to people underneath the quote. I don't know why you insist on replying above them but it's completely illogical.

when i heard barney talk i saw sports night in my head, then it clicked, and i was really happy :)

scratch that, sorry, i didn't get much sleep before posting this, not barney. eli

his voice is the same guy that was the boss on sports night (if anyone else watched that show)

I agree about the ending bit, and I am also depressed :p

Only played an hour or so last night.. game is as billed...

Great thing thing is the 16:9 Ratio support....! rox!! And the windowed mode at 16:9 (1280x720 res) on my 50" LCD HDTV is really impressive.. no comparison to DOOM 3.. didn't have 16:9 i had to stretch the window to fit my screen.... Huge plus there...

Game play is smooth, i really like the shooting it's very easy to control...

Game only had one bug for me so far... Some how my custom keyboard keys got lost.... Maybe somehow that was my fault dunno..

Other then that.. very impressive... can't wait to get home and play some more :p

Well looks like buying it on Steam paid off... bought it on the day the pricing packages were announced (about 10 minutes after in fact) and then reloaded steam at 8:01AM GMT (1 minute after servers were activated) and was playing at 8:10AM... not one crash, not one hiccup, worked 100% as advertised. Thanks Valve :)

Well at least some of you are able to play the game, it's taken me over 12 hours to validate my key, download the updates, and have the block removed from the games files.

Sux's.

These problems are only happening with the store bought dvd/cds?

I downloaded thru steam, gave an error when processing my order, said too busy to process, but go ahead and play and will will get back to you to confirm the order... download was fast only 3.5 hrs... wasn't expecting that...

    • Still 3x what it should cost. So, it seems the trick is to increase price by 6x so that a reduction in price back to 4x looks like a steal. "You savvy shoppers win again!" I'm glad I'm not in a desperate spot to actually even need this overpriced crap. Hopefully, it comes back down by the time for when (or if) I ever do.

    • Microsoft wants to end printer driver headaches with Windows Ready Print by Usama Jawad A few days ago, Microsoft released Windows 11 Experimental build 26300.8553, bringing a ton of enhancements such as Start menu customization, search improvements, Taskbar polish, and other minor UI tweaks. Another relatively major enhancement snuck deep within the change log was related to upgrades to the Windows printing experience. Now, Microsoft has shared more details about these benefits. For starters, Microsoft has renamed its Modern Print Platform to Windows Ready Print. The company believes that this name highlights its shift in strategy, which now focuses on modernizing, securing, and streamlining the printing experience for Windows devices. Some of the upgrades present in Windows Ready Print have already been seeded to customers and partners. This includes ending support for third-party printer drivers via Windows Update and transitioning towards the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and the native Windows IPP printer driver. In line with these changes, new printer installations will default to Windows Ready Print on eligible devices starting from July 2026. However, Microsoft recognizes that not all environments will be able to migrate to this platform immediately, so it will allow users to choose between installing the printer via Windows Ready Print or the traditional OEM process. Users will be able to toggle this configuration through Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners > Printer preferences. This control applies only to new printer installations, and its functionality can also be modified via Group Policy as follows: Launch Group Policy Editor Navigate to Local Computer Policy -> Administrative Templates -> Printers Find and select 'Configure Windows Ready Print driver ranking' -> double click to open it Select 'Enabled' (if you wish to enable Windows Ready Print driver selection) or 'Disabled' (if you wish to explicitly disable Windows Ready Print driver selection). Select Apply Select OK Similarly, if you set up Windows protected print mode through the same setting in Windows 11, it will also default to using Windows Ready Print exclusively. Microsoft hopes that these improvements will help eradicate dependency on OEM-specific driver installation processes and simplify printer installations. We'll likely find out more about other tangible benefits in the coming months.
