[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

Recommended Posts

and can you guys not read a post. I'm complaining about the title of the thread.

If I'd posted a thread on the movies sections titled "bruce willis is a ghost in 6th sense" just after it came out it would have been removed\edited.

All i'm saying is can we have a bit of control so that things like this don't spoil it for us who still don't have it yet. It was the 1st thread on the list when i opened neowin gamers section the other day and I thought i'd voice my opinion, oh yeah sorry the forum is the wrong place for that, i forgot.

Bugs?  My experience has been bug-free thus far.... Runs flawlessly

Not for me. It takes me 20 mins to load the game, it stutters like crazy, it crashes everytime i try and go past the part after you meet the guy and alien at the train track check point. I can't pass it. It just freezes. I try and quit the game, and I get a window that pops in game called "Untitled" that I can only close. Sucks. But, when the game is running, it is baaaad assssssss.

Only thing I've noticed so far is that I can only play the game on Windows 2000, not XP SP2.

I have athlon 2800

radeon 9500 pro

cMedia 5.1 sound

On XP I would get hardward locks and have to reboot. No problems so far on windows 2000. Exactly the same drivers etc.

I will try XP sp1 tonight.

I get this too, not audio stuttering as much but sometimes the game quits with a memory leak message, have it rarely with CSS but I have it a lot with HL2 usually when autosaving/quicksaving or loading. V.bad that there is problems with it in such a big way

well said, with games like these need, you need to take your time..im only playing a little everyday- to fully explor everything.

heh, unfortunately, this is one of my christmas presents, so I'm not playing it just yet

I've pre-loaded, unlocked, burnt to dvd discs and got the gold merchandise pack, all locked away until Christmas day, and even then I'm going to take my time and enjoy the game as much as possible.

this one?

I've got the stutter problem : P It really ruins my gaming experience and I've stopped playing the game until the bug is resolved. I've been reading up on all the hl2 sites and steampowered.com and still no working solutions have been posted. Im not mad at valve for not discovering this bug, but the lack of response to the community is just not acceptable. People have been supporting this game for over 1 year now and they still let the gamers down. Where are the official support site for the game? And an official response from the devs or the support team?

The problem is not isolated to specific sound cards, if you read the steampowered forums you'll see soundcards from onboard AC97, to Turtle Cruz, to Sound Blasters are having the same problem.

Valve issued a brief statement on the forums saying that they're looking into it right now, so knock on wood we'll have a fix for it soon-ish.

Meanwhile, I've managed to band-aid the problem with the cfg file changes mentioned earlier in the thread. The problem still occurs but it's much less apparant.

man i'm still only a few hours into the game.  ravenholm (or whatever it was called) is damn hard :/
