[DEFINITIVE] Half-Life 2 Thread

I have a big problem with the brightness.

Even if I set it to 1.6, I can't even read the third line of text. If I turn my monitor's brightness to max, I can only read the bottom line (faintly at that).

No matter how much I adjust the brightness in the Catalyst control centre, HL2 remains just as dark.

How do I increase the brightness/gamma in HL2??? :(

Using Catalyst 4.12, control centre 1.0.1796.585

How old is your monitor? If it's a CRT, they tend to go down in brightness over the years...

Ok I have a question that has probably been asked but there is 200 odd pages in here and im just up.

Is it possible to play half life on my big computer and then put it on my laptop and use it on there instead? Its just that I am only home for two weeks from Uni and I want to play it up at my flat on the laptop (P4 2.8GHz, ATI Radeon 9200). Will this cause problems with the validation?

Also I will use the same internet connection for the laptop as the desktop.

No. All you have to do is download and install steam on your laptop, then sign in using the account you created on your desktop. Steam will then download HL2 and any other steam based games you want. You can't be signed into steam using the same account at the same time is all.

I actually tried it last night and it worked. I'm behind a NAT router, so maybe that's why it let me.

I had a steam window open on two computers at the same time. No messages, no prompts, nothing.

I have actually got the DVD-ROM Version of the game. Will that affect it in the same way with the validation on both machines?

I will be playing it on my big computer until I am ready to leave then set it up on my laptop.

Just one thing, will the laptop be able to handle the game? It is quite a high spec machine.

This may have been said already but...

I think it's a shame that I still can't see Gordon's feet when I look down while playing HL2.

gordon doesn't have feet. and as nice as it sounds, it can cause issues (sepecially in crouched form.. if you have played the chronicles of riddick: escape from butcher bay, you may have notice it,

    • Nvidia is your issue more so than linux itself. I did used it for a while with an old 1060 3gb, but using propietary drivers was kind of messy.

    • The current Statcoungter desktop numbers has Google Chrome increasing it's market share this past year and currently commanding 75% share. Everybody else is just making up the numbers with even MS Edge losing 3% this past year and has dipped just below 10% share which is staggering considering it's default on every Windows deviced purchased. If these numbers are correct that terrible Edge number is both devastating and embarrassing for MS especially when you add in the terribly low Bing market share. This leads me to ask a couple of questions as the default browser holding just less than 10% market share seems really weird. It used to be that all Chromium browsers were being counted as Google Chrome in some cases.  Is this still happening? Do these high Google Chrome numbers contains some Edge user numbers?
