gigapixels Veteran Posted December 25, 2004 Veteran Share Posted December 25, 2004 hey i just got hl2 for xmas, i already have a steam acount. should i download hl2 or should i install it from the DVD? 585165927[/snapback] ^^ What he said. Besides, I believe that there are different keys for the Retail and Steam versions, so I don't know if it would even let you download the files... Not sure about it though... But, it will be much faster installing from the CDs anyway. No use in waiting longer, eh? Also, dont delete the Steam files before doing all of that, you'll need to copy and paste everything into the new drives Steam file. I hope that helps. Razorwing
hey guys I got a question will my comp with these specs run HL2? 850MHZ 384mb SDRAM Ati Radeon 9000 Pro (128mb) 160GB HD DVD-Rom Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244594-definitive-half-life-2-thread/page/138/#findComment-585177372 Share on other sites
kairon
Probably. Worth it? Not IMO. That CPU and SDRAM doesn't help much...the 9000PRO is more like an 8500, which is still decent enough for playing HL2, but, like I said, the CPU and SDRAM is gonna slow things down quite a bit more I'm sure then if the 9000PRO was on a higher end computer. Eli
Now I know there is a lot of questions about "Should I get it with these specs" and I have the same question sadly.... I have a laptop running P4 3.2 Ghz, 1Gb of Ram and a Geforce FX Go5200 64Mb card. Will the 64Mb card prevent it from running nicely? Need For Speed Underground 2 stutters at anything about 1024x768 and medium textures for me for some reason. I'm going to the store to buy the CD Version probably because I don't have a broadband connection to download the version off of the internet Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244594-definitive-half-life-2-thread/page/138/#findComment-585185125 Share on other sites

I played HL2 on my laptop which had: Intel P4 2.8ghz 512kb of R.A.M Gforce 4 32mb With the above specs HL2 ran very well, i used that net_graph to check what fps i was getting and i got an average of 40fps for hl2. I guess it should run much better on your lappy then on mine:P P.S: If you also get Counter Strike : Source you can check how many fps your getting with the Video Stress Test Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244594-definitive-half-life-2-thread/page/138/#findComment-585185148 Share on other sites
Eli
So I should go pick it up tonight then? With purchasing it in stores, will I get access to Day of Defeat Source and all the extras coming out or do I have to buy those seperately. Infy
I know with the Retail pack you will only get HL2, CS: S and HL: DM but you wont get DoD: S and the others Yeh you should pick it up tonight its well worth it! Eli
Well I have played it before and I'm just hesitant because I'm a multiplayer type of guy and I want to make sure that I'm going to get my money's worth out of it (that's why I asked about DoD: S). Is the Map Editor seperate also? Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244594-definitive-half-life-2-thread/page/138/#findComment-585185316 Share on other sites

kairon
Well, I beat the game. I must say, the ending was amazing! Between tossing the elite combines like ragdolls with the blue grav gun, and the end fight destroying the reactor, it was very fun! And it looked great on my 9600XT and played great as well. I wonder if we will ever get to see Alyx again. But considering G-Man probably didn't save her, I don't think so. Why must great games have to end. Waiting patiently for an HL2 expansion..... :pinch: Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244594-definitive-half-life-2-thread/page/138/#findComment-585193151 Share on other sites
Xtreme $niper
I have a feeling a Blue Shift 2 is coming around soon because theres so much open space left for Barney's viewpoint of the story. I think that the climax of the story was actually the end of the game. It just kept getting better and better. kairon
Remember when Breen was escaping and before he entered the elevator, Alyx and Freeman saw him talking to some sort of an alien creature on screen, and something about a host body and another world? I'm curious as to who the benefactors are, what their motives are, and what that giant creature was that Breen was talking to. paulhaskew
Game was awesome... Short, but awesome... I too am wondering the same things as kairon... so when is HL3 coming out? kairon
Well apparently the big thing Breen was talking to was a Combine....not one of those human hybrids, but the true Combine. But still, who are the benefactors? Like everyone else I await anxiously the next installment in this series. :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/244594-definitive-half-life-2-thread/page/138/#findComment-585193649 Share on other sites

They are providing us the chance to survive by serving them. Like the Xenians in hl1.
