Damn buddy! I think I died twice at the most... Then again, I tried easy ;) I've been planning on playing it on normal or hard one of these days, but I've been busy lately.

I probably died around a dozen times in normal (damn, the whole citadel was a joke. too easy!!!, where was the boss?) ... the first time i played it (just finished it now actually)...

I don't play games that often. I skipped easy because then its too... welll... easy. It's like using cheat in a game. Detracts from the experience.

ps: who has read this thread? My god its huge!!!! I probably won't bother. I've made my way through 40 page ones before but this is absurd. Even at a minute a page, this'll take an afternoon.

how did you know how many times you died...you counted or something :p

i died lotsa times :D but it doesnt matter to me.

yeah how did u know how many times lol?

Yes, I keep a tally of how many times I die per mode. I did that one easy. I usually play a game through on easy to figure out where people will be etc. Then I go back on medium or hard and play again!

Currently I have died once on hard which is way better than before. Running around with just a crowbar and being out of ammo sucks...

I think I died alot in Novaprospek and this was Normal Mode. I just couldnt get the right position for the sentries. And I constantly ran out of ammo. I think I died a minimum 15 times in that one...

The rest were because of crap keyboard and mouse, or admiring the scenery...

Well, the sentries were probably one of the harder battles, city 17 in the when alyx was trying to hack...

I didn't die too often in normal mode (the only i played in..) there but i died there quite a bit. I eventually figured out that its easiest to concentrate fire of the two of them on 1 place. i can handle the others myself.

It'll run on pretty much any machine, it scales quite impressively, but you'll gain/loose effects. Luckily your cpu is pretty beefy. That's a big limiting factor in this engine. The graphics card isn't critical all of the time. In fact since its a lot of cpu limiting then turning on AA, or aniso, or scaling up the res has no effect. Turning down textures does though, because there's an amazing fill rate going on. With your card, you might need to use med textures but it'll definently purr along at those settings

I have

athlonxp 1800

radeon 8500

512 ram

and the cpu is holding me up a lot, but so is the graphics card sometimes. Mostly cpu though.

I actually found that for the second round, the best way to do it is to activate them, turn them around and stick them back in where they come from, and put one of the ones in the middle in the empty one. Then you just stay in the middle empty one with a shotgun or something powerful and wait. They cant knock the turrets over, and if you run out of ammo, ALL the bodies are right in front of you!

Then you can just carry one of them down to the final room and have 4 there to make it a bit easier as well.

Sneaky :ninja:

I have got to give that a go that was the hardest part of the game imo

I was impossible to fight against it. Everytime the Hydra attacked the only visible thing was a big blue blurb doing strange movements in front of you.

There were a lot of things that were deleted because they didn't work or weren't up to par.

I'm disappointed they took the OICW (the gun in that picture) out more than the monster. lol

    • I wonder if "put it back the way it was for decades" ever crossed their minds? 🤣
    • Rescind the stupid "Show more options" in context menus and just give us the full menu instead of adding more steps to get to what we want. The "simpler by default" makes me think they'll go in the opposite direction. Every context menu should have a configure button so you can pick and choose what options should be shown, I know you can do that with some registry fu but that shouldn't be required.
    • This is why competition must exist. Finally, pressure is mounting on Microsoft to move in the right direction.
    • Microsoft is making Windows 11's context menus faster, simpler, and configurable by Taras Buria Five years ago, Windows 11 introduced redesigned context menus, offering users a simpler, more modern design. However, customers quickly discovered that the new menus leave a lot to be desired. Many are unhappy with performance (they are really slow), while others dislike the double-layed design, where many options are hidden behind the "Show more options" button. In addition, over the years, menus became cluttered and overloaded. While Microsoft has already fixed plenty of pain points across Windows 11, context menus remain mostly unchanged. Fortunately, Microsoft is finally listening. Marcus Ash, Design and Research Lead for Windows at Microsoft, responded to a tweet on X, confirming that the company is working on fixing Windows 11's context menus. Reworked context menus are supposed to be faster, simpler by default, and "configurable to what you use most." What the latter means is unknown, just like whether Microsoft plans to keep the classic menu alongside the modern one, but according to Marcus, the wait should finally be over soon, as he promised to "share our approach soon." Improved context menus will most likely appear first in Windows 11 preview builds in the Experimental Channel. While we wait for Microsoft to release them, you can try fixing context menus on your PC with a simple tool called Windows 11 Context Menu Manager. It lets you disable entries you do not need, not only cleaning up context menus, but also making them significantly faster. Microsoft has already improved Windows 11's Start menu and taskbar, so hopefully it will address user criticism of the context menu as well. Stay tuned for new Windows 11 preview builds, which usually arrive every Friday.
    • If the drive/memory is soldered to the board, which it probably is, then it's a no from me
