Well, it's a complex statisical method. You've got to factor in trends, user demographics, and various other metrics into the equation. And this isn't just a simple binomial or gaussian distrobution, because of dealing with all these dimensions. Several regressions have to be performed to normalize the data set into something workable for a final true number.

Follow this logic. :wacko:

Riiiiight - looks a bit uneccesary to me :rolleyes:

yeah I don't think it 100% needed but it kind of neat

but if you keep it is there a way to put ratings in a email. So when you get a new topic notifcation you could see if it worth visiting

It encourages good posting habits and draws your attention to good content on the forums (and, conversely, away from bad content). Considering a small subset of users have bitched about how "downhill" the site is going, this is a way to counteract that by encouraging good posting habits.

Edit: It's also absolutely perfect for the reviews and visual styles forums. People can rate reviews and styles for content :)

I don't think this will make any difference as far as someone's posting habits are concerned. Why would a member care if a thread got a bad rating just because of his post? Are members really going to strive to get threads a good rating? I dont think so.

Tim,

I think you should make a FORUM WIDE ANNOUCEMENT (IPB Announcement) that RATINGS EXIST. Just like the one you made when we were introduced to "Neowin 3.9".

I haven't seen 1 other thread with a viewable rating other than this one.

I lowered the threshold to 7 votes to counteract that. We've got 635 votes as of right now (about 15 hours after inception), so I think that's a good amount. I may lower it to 5 if we still haven't gotten a lot of rated topics by tommorrow. It's still a tweaking process, which is why I haven't made an annoucement yet.

Keep abreast on that tim as you keep modifying the number required to see the rating.

It may not change certain people's posting habits, but if a handful of people have read the thread and it's truly terrible, they can vote which will let others know not to bother.

That, and it will save people from having to scroll down through tons of posts like "This sux!" and " :x " and " (N) " for pages.

I hope people will get in the habit of rating every thread they read, be it good, bad or mediocre. :)

i dont like it :(

i think the yellow is kinda weak... i know its like a stop sign

red = 1-2? low

yellow = 3-4 middle..

green = 5 good?

but i dont like the yellow look :s sorry

and the mouse over on the rating is very nice... but you should use something other then thumbs?

I've just put in place the code for thread ratings. You can now rate topics to encourage good posting habits (or discourage bad ones). Any topic requires 10 votes before you can see it's rating, so that someone (or someones) can't take over the vote. You get one vote per thread, so make it count!

Let me know any bugs you find, but it should be secure against haX0ring and such ;)

Please think twice about your last line :unsure: If I find anything I'll contact you (same as last time :rofl: )

Don't worry, those images are only temporary. I'm still waiting on some updated graphics from the gfx team :D

Trust me, you can't hack it. There are no SQL injection tricks or overflows you can do with it. Every input is intval()'d and checked for validity first....

Would it be possible to use a post-by-post rating, and then have the average of the rating of all the user's post under their name in a  thread?

585012577[/snapback]

yeah, like a member rating. an average rating of a user's posts. i've seen a feature similar to this on other board systems.

    • Microsoft brings Planner Agent to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced that Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is now generally available to all users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Planner Agent is the latest addition in the string of AI features that Microsoft is implementing across virtually all of its products. The agent lets you manage tasks through natural language prompts directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. You can create and update tasks, check priorities, and get insights about current entries without leaving the chat interface. The general availability release comes with a handful of new additions on top of what was available during the initial rollout. A new plan picker lets you search and filter your plans by name, then update task names, statuses, due dates, or priorities through the agent. There's also a goals bucket now, which lets you group tasks under specific goals. This builds on the Goals view, a feature that was introduced as part of the broader Planner refresh that rolled out earlier. Image: Microsoft | Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot All AI-generated plans and tasks are created in draft mode by default, so you can review and approve changes before anything goes through. This is actually a thoughtful safety feature, because trusting AI to handle all your tasks without a human in the loop is usually a recipe for disaster. Having tasks initially saved as drafts is the best possible middle ground. Microsoft also says that not all tasks are executed equally. Simple tasks get processed quickly, while more complex ones, like building a plan from a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file, are handed to a more capable model. Microsoft says this approach delivers the best performance, but it could also help with usage management, as you won't have to waste tokens on performing simple tasks. Planner Agent is available now across Teams, Loop, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps for anyone on a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
