Would it be possible to use a post-by-post rating, and then have the average of the rating of all the user's post under their name in a  thread?

No, we already ruled this out. We should bring attention to quality content in an automated fashion, not quality members in an automated fashion. Groups of users with friends could all vote each other up to a higher status and a higher rated members doesn't always indicate every post of theirs is of high quality.

With that said, there are still plans to do something similar to this. You'll see soon enough ;)

hey ive got an idea!!

instead of this:

Thanks, Your vote has been added.

Topics need 7 votes before the total vote is shown publicly.

maybe it should tell you how many votes there are left before it will be shown publicly:

Thanks, Your vote has been added.

This topic needs 4 more votes before the total vote is shown publicly.

:D

Nice idea (Y)

What can I say! I'm... underwhelmed.

Have they added underwhelmed to the dictionary yet? They should.

I can see the advantages and disadvantages in changing your vote. The only compromise that I could see would be the ablity to nudge your vote up or down one position after a given time dalay (24 hours?).

Have they added underwhelmed to the dictionary yet?? They should.

*edit: I see that anyone can vote on a topic. Would it make more sense (or is it even possible) to only give people the option to vote if they have posted in that thread? (I looked through this entire thread before this post, so I apologize if someone already mentioned this type of idea and I missed it)

Also, might it be possible for the thread creator to see it's current thread rating? Might be useful to know, I am one for sure who would like to know the rating for some threads that I made. :)

Just an idea,

JMann

I think when you hover over the rating indicator it shows what the current rating is.

Posting in a thread isn't a part of judging it's content. Reading is how you judge content, so it should not be restricted to those users who haven't posted content.

It may not change certain people's posting habits, but if a handful of people have read the thread and it's truly terrible, they can vote which will let others know not to bother.

That, and it will save people from having to scroll down through tons of posts like "This sux!" and "  :x " and " (N) " for pages.

I hope people will get in the habit of rating every thread they read, be it good, bad or mediocre. :)

I don't know if that is true, because it takes 7 votes for a rating to even show.. by then atleast 7 people had to have seen the thread and either post it sucks or vote that it sucks for any other user to find out.

Not really sure why 7 are needed in the first place but I do like the idea of a thread rating, good work Tim.

Suggestion: Green to me indicates go or it's a good rating. 4 in my opinion is a good rating. I think it should be 1: red 2: orange: 3: yellow and 4 and 5 green. My thinking on this is also that if any one person votes anything that's not a 5 then it will be ranked 4.x no mater how many post 5 after that. correct? If so then it gets the yellow (which would mean caution to me) when really it still should be green. What are your thoughts on this? Just my 2 cents. Yea I know it's because of traffic lights, sort of, but still makes sense to me.

edit: Sorry missed the part where these graphics are temps..:)

    • I totally disagree. Very little good comes out of governments all around the world manipulating everything they can and usually the people are not the benefactors. What you say about being restricted and expensive sounds almost like the arguments against firearms and why banning them will protect people as if making something illegal somehow will prevent the criminals from having and using them. AI being far less mainstream could simply mean the average person will not benefit, but "big brother" and the corporations will benefit, which is almost for sure NOT a good thing.

    • "connect with audiences" is the most obvious corporate speak you can think of. I only bought Need for Speed from EA because it was the only racing game with cops in existence and I dig that. Now that they killed off NFS franchise, I have nothing to spend money on. EA is officially dead for me, just like Ubisoft which I've been boycotting for some 20 years now...
