Are there any sites that can help a noob like me?

Such as a talent tree build suggestion site etc etc?

That sort of depends on what you want to do. Leveling? High-end PVE, Arena?

If you want directed "help me not suck" advice you might find this forum is a good place to start: link to your armory page and state your goals.

There are enough people with varied experience that you'll like get directed advice that you may not get from 'authoritative' places like elitist jerks.

Also, don't be afraid to ask in-game in trade or other channels. Don't know about the other realms, but the people on Eonar EU are quite friendly and like to help newbies. :)

For item upgrades, quest comments, region information and other stuff, you can check out wowhead. I believe it to be the best WoW site there is (apart from Blizzard's).

That's a bit odd, given your characters are over level 10 you can just search by name, and then link it here. If you're still starting out fresh just give us a bit of information regarding your character and we can at least give you some advice to guide you on your way.

I'm seeing you as level 13: if that's the case your talents really don't matter and what you play to level with will have almost no impact on your end-game spec.

As a rule of thumb: talents which are static bonuses to damage (ie: +n% to crit, increase damage done by N by Y amount), or that are 'on demand' abilities

(ie: bloodthirst) are good choices for leveling. Talents with damage over time effects, that have ramp up time (like trauma) are less valuable because mobs

die too fast for them to be of value and in 5-man dungeons you're unlikely to get any synergy out of them.

I would recommend specing protection some time around level 30 and learning to tank in 5-man dungeons: not only is it a fast-track to gear (because you don't have

a level 80 character to just funnel gold and gear to you) but it's a good break in the questing grind. Even while leveling you can afford to change your talent points

every 10 levels or so.

once you're at, or close to level 80

Deathbloww is my go-to guy for my DPS warrior questions. I'd copy his fury spec (the standard issue raid spec for DPS warriors) and go to town. His arms spec is fairly standard but it's also not nearly as

good for damage (On a tank & spank like heroic saurfang he'll do around 15-17k DPS, vs around 10-12k as Arms). That's something you'll see borne out

for across every bit of content that matters.

I find that whenever I get bored with a certain class, I simply start over with a new class/race combination. I began with a Tauren Shaman. When TBC came out, I made a Blood Elf Rogue. After having both of them at 80, I decided to try a Blood Elf Paladin (I actually enjoy tanking more as opposed to melee DPS or Healing). I have now started a Troll Hunter, and I'm actually starting to enjoy ranged DPS now.

I can't wait to see what I discover when Cataclysm comes out.

Worgen rogue leatherworker... With all the changes to the profession, thats an uber combination. :)

if you only have 1 character and you choose a crafting profession its best to get thats professions complimentary profession. I myself have 3 characters, I have one I dont play but only for gathering for my other two characters, that way i get the benifits of 2 professions and instead of having to have a gathering profession.

Blacksmith - Miner

Enchanting - Tailoring (debatable)

Alchemist - Herbalism

Leather working - Skinning

Jewelcrafter - Miner

Inscription - Herbalism

What skills should I choose for my new char? Example being blacksmithing?

My buddy suggested blacksmithing and enchanting.

Seeing that you're playing a warrior, although you can choose whatever you want, the best combination would be mining + blacksmithing. That way, you can make money buy selling ore and bars at the auction house, and use them to level up your blacksmithing profession, with which you can craft weapons and armor that you can use.

lol

Blacksmithing is useless.

Mining/JC is the best combo (for just about every class also).

@Pixil Eyes, I highly suggest checking out your classes forum for details on your tree of choice, stat priorities, glyph suggestions, etc. Much information can be found in the stickies (such as this leveling guide). Just be sure the information isn't too old and is still relevant. Also, you can read through the threads to see suggestions from others.

You may also click their character picture or class icon to view their armory page to see their gear, glyphs, talents, etc.

Lastly, whichever profession you decide to level, you can gain some help on how to level it quickly by typing the profession name into Google. (e.g. blacksmithing 1-450)

Hope this helps you as much as it has me in the past. :)

Unless you're in a high-end arena team (>2000 rating) or a high end raiding guild (Heroic Lich King) the benefit from professions is so tiny as to be hardly worth considering.

Compare the gathering professions:

  • Mining: 60 stamina
  • Skinning: 40 critical strike rating
  • Herbalism: 3100 healing every 2 minutes (assuming best in slot tank gear in ICC25 with full raid buffs and the 30% zone buff active).

The crafting bonuses are also extremely close for example:

  • Jewel crafting allows the use of 3 jewel-crafter only gems. The difference between a standard epic gem, and the jewel crafter cuts is 14 strength per gem or 42 strength total. (warriors get 2 attack power per strength)
  • Enchanting allows both rings to be enchanted with +40 attack power (or similar stats for casters and tanks) yielding 80 AP total.
  • Alchemy increases attach power by 80 when using standard attack power flasks (and includes an 'unending' flask that also grants this bonus for when you're not using better flasks).
  • Black Smithing allows 2 extra sockets which can be filled with 2x20 strength gems yielding 40 strength
  • etc.

+strength bonuses are slightly better than pure +attack power bonuses because they scale slightly with talents and raid buffs but the difference is still tiny. In the most extreme cast it's still less than 100 attack power between a 'useless' profession like herbalism and the best-in-slot option of jewel crafting.

When warriors will be routinely pushing 6,000 attack power unbuffed and can cross 10,000 attack power when they're fully raid buffed we're talking about a tiny portion of their overall damage. Going further: the difference between one 'bad' option (like alchemy) and the best option (jewel crafting) is about 10 attack power which will amount to a fraction of a percentage of your damage.

With that in mind: I'd focus on getting rich - and the most reliable way to do that while leveling is with herbalism/mining.

Being able to afford your flying/epic flying mount sooner will shave substantial time off your leveling experience and will make the game all around more fun.

As a bonus for warriors: the herbalism heal with slightly reduce down time while questing: you might save a few minutes stopping to eat/bandage, the difference

for other classes like paladins or shaman is miner because they have the ability to heal themselves.

Once you're 80 you'll be swimming in gold so you can change professions to min/max for arena or PVE if you're ever playing at the very high end of the game.

Not going to comment much on warrior stuff since that's one of the few classes I haven't really played much of, but if you're choosing professions I'd definitely recommend getting at least 1 gathering profession (especially if this is your first character). Without a gathering profession to help with the costs it can get really expensive for someone who's just starting out. No profession is really that much better than the others if you're not min/maxing your character, so just go with whatever you think you'd enjoy.

Question for you WoW'ers

Anyone else having problems (ie, crashes about requesting memory) after updating to the new patch 3.3.5 and upgrading nvidia drivers to the new version?

I seem to get maybe 10 mins of playtime, before that crash comes up. Now I have 12GB of RAM, surely I shouldn't be getting that error... right?

    • Password Safe 3.72.0 by Razvan Serea Password Safe is a password database utility. Like many other such products, commercial and otherwise, it stores your passwords in an encrypted file, allowing you to remember only one password (the "safe combination"), instead of all the username/password combinations that you use. Once stored, your user names and passwords are just a few clicks away. Using Password Safe you can organize your passwords using your own customizable references—for example, by user ID, category, web site, or location. You can choose to store all your passwords in a single encrypted master password list (an encrypted password database), or use multiple databases to further organize your passwords (work and home, for example). And with its intuitive interface you will be up and running in minutes. PasswordSafe was originally designed by the renowned security technologist Bruce Schneier and released as a free utility application. Password Safe 3.72.0 changelog: Fixed bugs Improved font scale handling - should resolve font size issues on high resolution displays. GH1749 In the Master Password Setup window, "Show Master Password" is no longer truncated on some displays. GH1092, SF1595 Size and position of main window is now correctly restored on scaled displays. SF1630 Keep password expiry date when both password and password expiry are changed; don't clear a non-recurring expiry when the password's changed. SF1628 Custom values can now be copied to the clipboard in read-only mode via Ctrl-C and right-click->Copy Value. New features GH1196 Dark display mode support: Password Safe now supports the system display mode, as well as setting the mode directly via Manage->Options->Display->Display Mode. This change also updates the general "look & feel" of the app to the current Windows theme. Known limitations: The Date picker and keyboard shortcut controls do not switch to dark theme The Customize Toolbar dialog does not switch to dark theme Custom Field support has been added to the more advanced features: Filters XML and Text import and export Comparison, Sync and Merge databases SF938 Custom field values may now be selected by name and copied via a "Copy Custom Field Value..." submenu in the entry context popup menu. SF936 Notes and Custom fields layout now overlap, selectable by tabs, resulting in a more compact and less cluttered layout. • I've got a SoundBlasterX G6 that I use in my streaming setup. Sounds great to me and I've had zero issues with the ancient software package so far in Win11. That G6 has 7.1, Dolby, fully working SPDIF and since it's a USB device it's outside of my rig so I don't have to worry about EMF distortion. Looks like for now this is a pass for me as I think I have better hardware....
