no it really is current active(ie playable) subs.

trial and inactive accounts are not counted in that figure.

keeping in mind that in china they pay by the hour, so they might just have accounts there with a few hours left not being played for maybe months that count as active subs.

They figure that in on the calculations too.

Received the following email, which i believe is a scam.

The give away was that it was addressed to a different email address than my Battle.net account!!.

Look up the domain at whois.com they want you to click on.. chances are, its from china.. I get a lot of these also.. some from a batt1e.net.. :) If your account was compromised, you would know.. Your account would be "locked" and it would tell you when you try to login..

Spotted it was scam straight away. Still have full access, but changed my password and added an authenticator just to be safe.

Haven't looked at the headers or domain on whois yet, but I'm sure your right about China.

I have fun with those scam letters, just view full headers to see real spoofed email its usually from hotmail.com account and send them back same email :)

Was sent to my hotmail account as well, which was the big give away due to my email for the battle.net account being completely different.

The "restore account" URL was definitely fake. I snipped the link out so nobody visits it by mistake.

Sorry, should have thought to do that myself.

I got the exact same email with a different name (obviously) Gmail reported it as spam right away.

Just spotted that 5 versions of the same email are in my Hotmail spam folder, but 1 did get through to the inbox

i used to get several wow and aion and combined wow/aion scam emails daily. now they come in waves(mostly wow ones) i'll get three identical mails within 2 minutes for example.

they're so obvious compared to actual blizzard correspondence. actual blizz emails will have your original account name somewhere in them. although i've seen a couple of convincing scam emails with graphics and such. but if you're in doubt, just navigate to the blizz bent account page through google or w/e(not from any links inside the emails) and see if there's anythingon your account.

often these emails warn of impending bans or suspension or account actions of some kind, which blizz will never do. that is warn you. if you get banned they will do it first and send you a notification email after teh fact telling you why, which also includes your account name in the email.

dunno about emails telling you got into catalcysm beta, that are actually from blizz, but i see alot of these scams as well.

scam emails are usually some kind of copy pasta from few different bad/obvious email addresses that have terrible grammar and word selection.

^ I've seen some good cataclysm beta ones with full images and everything. However due to lack of code, or anything visible in the actual BNET account (on the real site) it's easy to see they are blizz impersonators. But based on the ammount we get, you must assume that there are a lot of people that fall victim to this.

Druids are getting a new Tree of Life form apparently.

This isn't finished yet, and has been textured (sadly) by the person who found it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXEtwCpZYxs

that is soo fake :p and horribly done at that.

that is soo fake :p and horribly done at that.

I don't think it was that horrible. Granted it's way too far from current Tree Form to be a smart move, however it would be cool to see like a colony of tree people...

yeah there are obviously people that these emails work on.

i know the first time i saw one i was like "is this real?"

i've enver input my info into one, and my computer came up clean after visiting one of the links in one one time, but i did get haxed several months ago.

luckily with a few off hand remembered details about my account like character names and states(like levels and places they were logged out at when i last played them and what kind of gear i had on them) i got my account back within 3 days after just a few emails. they left all the items and gear and gold the haxor left on my toons, as well as the play time they added to my account. and the haxor apparently used it as a chat ad spam bot.

Sigh.

The cynic in me would think that everything Blizzard does these days is to maximize profit.

When playing with the 4.0.1 PTR, my character got flagged for a random re-customization. "Great!" I thought, having regretted making a male Night Elf, but not enough to re-roll. Said Night Elf is an almost-ICC geared 80, and as a "casual-ish" player he has taken me about a year to get this far.

Anyway, using the character customization thing on the PTR, I turned Guy Chesticles (my character's name) into Girl Chesticles.

What a stupid thing to do! Girl Chesticles looks badass. Guy Chesticles looks ugly and stupid.

After much soul-searching, I decided that even though I'm really attached to that character (I have a few alts), I'd much rather have it have a sex-change than carry on through Cataclysm with that stupid, ugly grimace on his face.

So, after a random flag on my PTR account, Blizzard gets ?12. Say goodbye to stupid, grimacing, Guy Chesticles:

... and say hello to badass Girl Chesticles:

Yes, yes, a fool and his money. Still, I really love World of Warcraft. A friend of mine once laughed at me for paying monthly for a game, until I pointed out ?8 per month for WoW was orders of magnitude less than the ?100's he spends a month on console games! I'll consider this a little treat

haha, congrats. I always hated the male Night Elf look. Honestly - WoW gives me a ton of entertainment, and 15 a month is cheaper than it would be to spend money on movies and such for entertainment. 15 for tons of entertainment, or tons more for short bursts of entertainment?

haha, congrats. I always hated the male Night Elf look.

I cannot stand the Night Elves period.

It's the soul reason I waited so long to play a druid and the reason I'm so excited to play Cataclysm.. I will finally have a toon that I actually want to want to play and .. "own" and breath a life of personality into. I never really felt like my DK was "right" for me and he was just.. boring.

    • As I've been usually saying lately - we all can thank "AI" for this.
    • Friday Windows 11 preview builds are here. Insiders in the Experimental (formerly Dev) and Beta Channel can download builds 26300.8697 and 26220.8690. My Windows11 device on the Preview Channel just got 26220.8728. My guess is this build is a nightly update from 26220.8690.
    • Traffic has a surprisingly unexpected impact on your surroundings by Sayan Sen Image by Radik 2707 via Pexels A collaborative study by researchers from several Israeli institutions found that everyday pollution from traffic and industrial activity measurably changed the atmospheric electric field over the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, providing new evidence of how human activity can influence the lower atmosphere. The research was led by Dr. Roy Yaniv of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Gertner Institute at Sheba Medical Center, Dr. Assaf Hochman of the Fredy & Nadine Herrmann Institute of Earth Sciences at the Hebrew University, and Prof. Yoav Yair of Reichman University. The study also involved Itay Froomer, a student from Hadera High School and the Israeli Museum of Medicine and Science (Technoda), who carried out the work as part of the Ministry of Education's 5-unit physics research track. The researchers focused on the atmospheric electric field under fair-weather conditions. Even in the absence of storms, a weak electric field naturally exists between Earth's surface and the atmosphere. One of the main ways scientists measure this field is through the Potential Gradient (PG), which is the inverse of the vertical component of the electric field. PG is a key part of the global electric circuit, a planet-wide system of electrical currents maintained by thunderstorms and electrified clouds around the world. Scientists have long known that the atmospheric electric field can be influenced by factors ranging from large-scale atmospheric processes to local weather conditions such as dust, fog and clouds. Human-made pollution is also known to play a role, but understanding exactly how urban emissions affect the electric field close to the ground has remained an area of ongoing research. To investigate this relationship, the team analyzed measurements from a newly installed electric field mill, an instrument used to continuously monitor the strength of the atmospheric electric field. The instrument was installed at the Center for Technological Education (Roter House) in Holon and became operational in August 2024. It was funded by Israel's Ministry of Education and the Holon municipality. The electric field mill forms part of a broader monitoring network that includes nearby meteorological stations and air-quality monitoring sites. This allowed researchers to compare electric field measurements with detailed weather data and pollution records to better understand what was driving changes in the Potential Gradient. The study focused on two major urban pollutants: fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen oxides (NOx), both commonly produced by vehicle traffic and industrial activity. PM2.5 refers to microscopic airborne particles small enough to remain suspended in the atmosphere for extended periods, while NOx is a group of gases released during fuel combustion. Researchers examined daily, weekly and seasonal patterns in the atmospheric electric field and compared them with changes in pollutant concentrations. Their analysis revealed a clear relationship between NOx levels and changes in the Potential Gradient, particularly during morning and evening rush hours when traffic emissions were at their highest. “What we observe is a direct physical link between emission peaks and electrical variability,” explained Dr. Roy Yaniv. “NOx reduces atmospheric conductivity very quickly, so the electric field responds almost instantaneously during traffic rush hours.” Atmospheric conductivity describes how easily electrical charges move through the air. According to the researchers, nitrogen oxides rapidly alter this conductivity, causing a near-immediate response in the electric field. PM2.5, however, was associated with a delayed response. The researchers attributed this difference to the particles' longer atmospheric residence time, meaning they remain in the atmosphere for longer periods, as well as their different microphysical interactions with surrounding air and atmospheric components. The study also identified a pronounced "weekend effect." In Israel, traffic volumes and some industrial activity decline significantly on Fridays and Saturdays. During these periods, concentrations of both NOx and PM2.5 dropped, and corresponding changes were observed in the atmospheric electric field. “The weekend signal demonstrates just how sensitive the electric field is to changes in human activity,” the researchers noted. “When emissions decline, the electrical environment adjusts at once, providing a high-resolution indicator of urban atmospheric conditions.” The findings showed that pollution levels can influence not only the chemical composition of the atmosphere but also its electrical properties. Researchers said the results strengthened the case for using atmospheric electricity as an additional tool for environmental monitoring, particularly in densely populated urban areas where anthropogenic, or human-caused, influences are most pronounced. The study also pointed to potential public health applications. By combining air-quality measurements with observations of atmospheric electricity, researchers said they could gain a more complete picture of how urban atmospheric conditions change over time. “Integrating air-quality data with electric-field measurements gives us a clearer picture of how the lower atmosphere evolves moment by moment,” the researchers added. “It’s a framework that can support both scientific insight and practical environmental decision-making.” Beyond the scientific findings, the project highlighted a collaboration between universities, public institutions and secondary education. Researchers said the work demonstrated how students could take part in real-world environmental research while contributing to studies of air quality, atmospheric processes and their potential effects on society. • We aren't even at the all-star game and Microsoft is talking about an update that will most likely be released during the World Series if not after. A lot can happen in the world between now and the 2026 World Series, including the 2026 FIFA Cup. Tell me about it again after the FIFA Cup is concluded. That should allow plenty of time to prepare for it.
    • Great, tell me when I have a "Bad Pool Caller" elsewhere not in Windoze.
