WOW..

With the new NVidia Drivers, I offloaded Physx to my secondary 250S card, and started tinkering around with my settings in WoW..

Here's my results:

The game never ever drops below 60 FPS. :woot:

What was the point in the screenshot? there's no info from what I can see that shows any performance increase or decrease.

In the latest patch addons seem to handle the window resizing much better. In earlier times I had to setup three separate profiles

depending on where I was playing:

  • 1280x800 on my notebook
  • 1920x1080 for playing on my TV
  • 1680x1050 for my old creeky desktop

If you play on a mac it's not unusual to jump between full screen and windowed mode (CMD+M) to browse the web, or watch a

movie with the game in the background. The problem is that such activities would destroy your UI as things resized at varing rates

and they had their positions bounce around. Going from a TV to a notebook meant that your action bars, chat windows, etc. would

all stack up.

Now I'm able to go from my laptop to desktop without having my UI break: all the elements just get uniformly larger which is pretty

much exactly the behaviour I'm looking for. Better still, I can resize my window down to around 650 pixels across and everything

still works.

I haven't tried changing aspect ratios and I expect that might cause some issues because addons set their anchors relative to UIParent's

top left, bottom left, and centre depending on the authors mood. but I think it'll be a lot easier to fix in the future.

Argh.

All going to plan, I'll get [What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been] during Love Is In The Air, in February. I've been having a blast doing all the holidays ? hell, I even had fun during the crazy times of Children's Week doing School of Hard Knocks.

For Hallows End, I've done all of the achievements bar one of the RNG ones. I got my helm yesterday, and my toothpick just dropped. All I need is that squashling!

It's come down to me logging in every hour to do a Trick or Treat to see if I get the random drops, and of course doing the dailies. Having to log in hourly for a random drop is against the spirit of these holidays IMO - I have an advantage over a lot of people because I work from home and can hop on WoW every hour even during work time. Some people will have an advantage of me, since I often go out in the evenings and such.

.

I've never said what my PC's full stats were so, I don't know how you know your PC is better than mine.. and frankly I don't care. I love my PC.

Willy-wag all you want.

So far as i know there were a few textures that were replaced. however the overall texture work has not been done yet. Although the new water and lighting effects are amazing especially if you have DX11 mode enabled.

So I'll admit I play this game far too much. I have over a year /played on my warrior and over half a year /played on my Paladin. In total I'm probobly reaching near 600 days /played on the account. I've recently had some drama issues with this person in my guild and it's reached the point where I dont want to login sometimes. Well I missed a raid 2 weeks ago because of this guild member and I'm missing a raid today. I must say, it feels pretty good to not be logged into WoW at all. The issue is off my mind and I'm just chilling far happier than I would be if I was in WoW now. I should start playing this game less. :)

debating on resubbing to WoW, been alittle over a year since last played.

had a DK Tank in full Scourgeborne (T7 all 10 man except 1 or 2 that was 25 )

how hard should it be to regear up agian, i know there is the Dungon finder thing, but are people still anal about everybodys gear rating being so high they want a free ride through the instance ?

Of course they are. That's how people determine "skill". Hopefully Cata will change that. Less welfare epics. :)

As a tank doing Dungeon Finder, you'll be insta-ques (1-10 seconds norm) and you'll quickly be able to get full 232 gear, which should let ya into the oddball Uld/TOC(and G) run. You'll also be able to buy 251 (didn't bother to check prices on those) which will boost your GS up a bit to get into ICC. Which is a joke w/o Chill of Throne and 30% buff. I'm thinking of setting a few nights aside and getting a solid group and walking in and taking loot. Just can't be bother to play the game long enough for that. Bring on Cata!

Not sure why everyone insists on getting 232 gear. My feral tank has less than 10 hrs played @80 and my avg item level is already 256. 251 off pieces are cheaper than 226 off pieces. The Veteran arena vendor is broken so you can buy 270ilevel stuff without a rating (arena teams are gone..). It's stupidly easy to get gear.

That being said.. Player > Gear.

Only got one toon I play. It might have changed since I'd use dungeon finder to gear up. If that's the case it'll be even easier for him.

edit: Logged in and looked at prices for Frost gear, it's stupid cheap. Ignore any 232, go straight to 251 ****. And I guess heirlooms is going to the points sink.

That being said.. Player > Gear.

As much as I would love to agree, that hasn't been LK mindset this entire expansion. (spare a few select fights, which is bull anyways as all fights should be like that)

ill prolly try it out for a bit, but those type of people annoy me, back in Vanilla i would take people in Greens to the raids, but it was full 40 back then, had alot more slack, now people pretty much require you to be OVERGEARD for the instance/raid. its like come on, i do older instances for fun, but why would somebody else that doesnt need anything out of the isntance, run it just so you can stroll through it

its literally those types of people that drove me away from the game in the first place, was to much " no we cant take that player cause his gear is to low, making me sit outside the bloody instance for an hour cause nobody was good enough, ended up dropping group and trying again, repeat. eventually i said screw it cleared as far as i could of mobs solo, leving the boss's. lol

As much as I would love to agree, that hasn't been LK mindset this entire expansion. (spare a few select fights, which is bull anyways as all fights should be like that)

ICC10 was being done when the buff was <30% by people in nothing but blues. You don't get much more "player > gear" than a situation where players wouldn't even be allowed to queue for some heroic dungeons.

The problem is that the bar for both skill and gear was set very low.

A skilled player in blues.
Marginal players with 2 tiers more gear than the content is tuned for.
------ You must be this good to pass ------
naked characters played by competent people
People who spec 25/25/25 + 6 unspent + marginal gear
Face rolling keyboard turners with full 264 tier 10
Face rolling keyboard turners with blues and greens

Skill was always the deciding factor (evidence: if gear was; why isn't everybody in this thread with 264 at least "bane of the fallen king")?

Take players with full 277 (and skill to match) and toss them in 232 welfare epics and they'll still be able to clear ICC.

Take a fire-standing keyboard turners and give them full 264/277 and they still aren't going to be getting a heroic lich king kill, hell the bottom

half aren't even killing normal lich king (the 30% buff gives you the stats of someone with full 258 at 0% even if you're in 5-man epics. 258 was more than enough to kill lich king at 0%)

IMO gear hasn't been the largest concern since 2.4.

According to a blue poster on the wow forums, not a bug. info here

Blighton @ Dark Iron

Here is my character, when i activated last night, i just threw a bunch of talents into blood, as I was talentless due to patch.

My gear and glyphs and sockets are geared atm for Frost ( i was NOT a DW Tank ) also there is a gem or 2 that looks like they switched as i don't remember it buffing that, but then again i have been away for a while. Personally im not going to start dungeon finder and kick heroic to get back into tanking let alone learning Blood Spec

But any tips would be appreciated.

The trees are pretty specific now, tank = blood, dw = frost, lolghoul = unholy. Frost is more difficult but fun to play. 2h frost is viable.

You can more or less steal my DK's talent build. There are a handful of 'optional' points that should be easy to spot, and if you plan to

dual wield then the changes needed should be pretty obvious.

If you're going to dual wield then head over to Forge of Souls as often as you can and farm for Nighttime (2.6 speed 1h axe, ilevel 232)

and if you're going to go 2h then get into pit of Sauron and try for the 2h axe from the last boss. If you've got a little gold to spend you

can get the ilevel 264 2h axe "shadows edge" crafted. Depending on your server's economy the raw materials could be as low as about

5000g - you'll need to kill boss 5 & 6 of ICC on 25 man mode for drops, but pugs have been doing that for months. If you have friends

who will take you: you're golden. The majority of your gear will come from the badge vendor or auction house: it's just face-roll heroics

until you have your set of tier 10.

For stats: Get hit capped, get expertise capped. After that you have to chose what to gear for:

If you're dual wielding then you'll stack strength and reforge your 'bad' stats into mastery. (strength is king because the other stats never come close to being as much DPS as str is)

If you're using a 2 hander you'll want to stack haste as much as you can while reforging 'garbage' stats into mastery (more haste = more attacks+faster rune regen = more procs + more strikes)

Correct glyphs are frost strike, howling blast, and obliterate - you'll replace howling blast with icy touch when going to a boss fight

where aoe doesn't matter. Dual wield is played in frost presence, 2h is played in unholy.

The basic rule of thumb for playing is: "diseases up, obliterate whenever you can, bloodstrike when both blood runes are up, frost strike as filler"

Obviously the above is all just "welcome to frost DK in 4.0, here's enough to get you started." The details are more subtle but the above should

takes you about 85% of the way and hopefully it wasn't too difficult to follow.

I was frost tanking before I deactivated, why my ger is set for frost, not going to dps, why I'm switching to blood. To tank

I'll look those items up but if they are dps weeps, not going to go after them

    • Microsoft Weekly: new Surface, Windows 11 26H2, and more by Taras Buria This week's news recap is here, with Microsoft announcing Windows 11 version 26H2, launching new Surface devices powered by Snapdragon X2 processors, GTA VI preorder date and cover art, fresh Windows 11 preview builds, a quirky phone-sized e-reader with a physical dial, and more. Quick links: Windows 10 and 11 Windows Insider Program Updates are available Reviews are in Gaming news Great deals to check Windows 11 and Windows 10 Here, we talk about everything happening around Microsoft's latest operating system in the Stable channel and preview builds: new features, removed features, controversies, bugs, interesting findings, and more. And, of course, you may find a word or two about older versions. Windows 11 version 26H2 is now official. Alongside Windows 11's new preview builds released this week, Microsoft confirmed version 26H2, which is coming later this year as an enablement package based on the same platform as versions 24H2 and 25H2. A newly published blog post details what IT admins should do to prepare for the upcoming launch. Next, we have new Windows 11 bugs. Users report that this month's security updates for Windows 11 cause all sorts of issues, including BitLocker bugs, OneDrive issues, black screens of death, and third-party integration in Office apps. Microsoft has not confirmed those yet, but it acknowledged other issues with its operating system. What Microsoft has confirmed is a bug where Recycle Bin delete prompts display internal file names instead of actual ones, and a year-old Windows JScript compatibility bug caused by security-focused engine changes. Moving to more positive news, Microsoft and Adobe are working on improving Windows performance in popular creative apps like Photoshop. Thanks to SPGO optimizations, users can expect up to 20% better performance. Finally, we have a few useful articles that can help you recover your PC or make it perform better. For one, we published a guide detailing what to do if your computer cannot boot after a clean Windows 11 install. There are two important steps you can try to get your system back to working in no time. Additionally, there is a more detailed guide on various CPU performance modes that could notably improve performance. Windows Insider Program Here is what Microsoft released for Windows Insiders this week: Builds Canary Channel Builds 28120.2315 and 29613.1000 These two builds include a new built-in audio driver, improvements to audio Settings, and more. Dev Channel Builds 26300.8697 and 26220.8690 Not much is available here. Some File Explorer improvements, Start menu enhancements, bug fixes, and more. However, build 26300.8697 is now officially marked as version 26H2. Updates are available This section covers software, firmware, and other notable updates (released and coming soon) delivering new features, security fixes, improvements, patches, and more from Microsoft and third parties. This week, Microsoft announced its newest Surface devices powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon X2 processors. There is the 12th-gen Surface Pro and the 8th-gen Surface Laptop. Both devices feature little to no visual differences compared to their predecessors from 2024, and most changes hide inside, including a better processor, faster graphics, enhanced NPUs, and more. The Surface Laptop also received a new haptic trackpad. Mozilla is currently working on a major Firefox redesign, and earlier this week, it published a roadmap of upcoming features and highlights of the upcoming "Project Nova" rework. Files, one of the best file managers for Windows 10 and 11, has been updated in the Preview channel with a long-requested feature. Tree View is finally available in version 4.1.4, allowing you to quickly browse deeply nested folders without leaving the main view. In addition, the update improved the Windows Fonts folder, allowing you to preview each font without opening the default viewer. Rufus, another useful Windows 11 utility, also received a notable update. Version 4.15 arrived as beta with important fixes for silent Windows 11 installation. It also includes patches for ARM-based Windows PCs, OneDrive removal improvements, and more. Here are other updates and releases you may find interesting: Microsoft faces shareholder lawsuit over masking AI costs and slowing Azure growth Microsoft now allows you to tweak Visual Studio to new extremes Microsoft brings Planner Agent to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users Microsoft fixes one of Excel Copilot's most frustrating limitations Microsoft will finally let you sign in to Edge with a Google account Here are the latest drivers and firmware updates released this week: NVIDIA 610.62 with support for Empulse and various fixes. Reviews are in Here is the hardware and software we reviewed this week Earlier this week, we reviewed the DuRoBo Krono, a portable, phone-sized e-reader with some interesting physical controls. This device has an Apple Watch-like dial for page turning, frontlight adjustment, and more. Software is simple and no-nonsense, but it also lacks some useful features and customization. Overall, the device proved interesting, but not flawless. On the gaming side Learn about upcoming game releases, Xbox rumors, new hardware, software updates, freebies, deals, discounts, and more. Forza Horizon 6 received two big updates this week. Alongside the Series 2 content update, developers pushed plenty of bug fixes and balancing tweaks. However, they also had to acknowledge the Eliminator CR-farming exploit and shut down the online mode temporarily. Luckily, only a few days later, another fix arrived, which re-enabled Eliminator and patched the exploit. Microsoft announced new games for Game Pass subscribers. Those include EA Sports FC 26, Junkster, Call of Duty: Vanguard, Abyssus, RV There Yet?, and more. Some existing games are leaving the catalog, so be sure to check out the full list here. New games are also available for GeForce NOW subscribers, and they include Embers of the Uncrowned Demo, Aphelion, Megastore Simulator, OPERATOR, Citizen Sleeper, and more. Rockstart Games had plenty of GTA-related news this week. For one, the company gave GTA V players another free update. Those still playing the game on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are no longer required to pay $40 to upgrade to the latest-gen version. More importantly, Rockstar Games revealed the GTA VI cover art and announced the preorder date. The Epic Games Store is giving away two games: Citizen Sleeper and Roboeat. These two titles are up for grabs until next Thursday, but if they are not up to your taste, you can always check out the latest Weekend PC Game Deal issue, which is usually full of discounts and specials that let you save a lot of money on new games.
