I'm not one to pimp my own projects or anything but I figured since I've had a few questions/comments/private messages/etc about my UI over the years I'd drop a link here:

. It starts from a fresh install and ends with my complete UI: the one I'm using tomorrow night to kill Heroic Ragnaros. The last videos (Scrolling Combat Text, Importing my custom Weak Auras configuration, and tweaking Deadly Boss Mods) will be visible in the next 24-hours or so.

I can't promise you they're entertaining: it's a couple of hours of me talking through each of the addons I use, the principles I use while designing an interface, and noting some of the bugs or pitfalls in those addons I like. So there you have it: all of the information you need to duplicate my UI.

With that out of the way I can start on the project I've wanted to do for quiet some time: a tutorial series for Weak Auras. I feel pretty strongly that WeakAuras is the best addon ever written for World of Warcraft: it's incredibly powerful, well designed, performant, and unbelievably useful. Unfortunately the initial learning curve is a little steep, especially for new players, and there aren't any good "Here's how you get started with it" guides.

I haven't seen all of them but from the ones I've seen I get the strong feeling that adding ColorTools to your addon collection will save you alot of trouble in the future :)

I'm familiar with that one but I actually prefer to just edit the saved variables in the WTF folder when i care about 'exact' colors. I made mention of that in one of the last videos The reason I stayed away from this one is because getting colours exactly right isn't 'that important' -- sort of like how I didn't stress too much about exact sizing of different elements. I'm going to add two more videos: 1 for weak auras to import the settings I used for firelands and then a "bugs/tips/tricks" wrap up that identifies things I screwed up while making these, some stuff I forgot to mention, and maybe some tricks like colourtools for those that are interested.

It's almost certain that I'm going to be tanking next tier so maybe I'll have to make another set next tier when all the paladins get a load of my UI awesomeness.

So Blizzard takes the original talents that helped classes and specs stand apart, streamlined it into some bull****, and then revert back to something like the original but now market it as "Talents 2.0"...

Gotta love Blizzard...

Old "hybrid specs" were almost never viable because the 41/51-point talent was usually too valuable (unless Blizzard was just mean to your spec). You could only really get away with one in a few very rare circumstances (certain PvP situations, certain boss fights, etc.), and even then there weren't many interesting choices if you did decide to screw yourself.

The new system actually gives players a choice without having to destroy their raw output or utility in the process.

Assuming most if not all of you have heard this at one point, but I was listening to some of them again, they are pretty epic. It's a sound board from one of the Guildmasters on the Illidan server.

http://troxed.com/soundboard.php

Best one is the Ninja Turtle one:

"You guys have the ****in' reaction time of a ****in' 6 year old that's ****in' retarded, watchin ****in' blues clues, eatin' ****in' cheerios in his god damn ninja turtle underwear"

If anybody is on PTR tonight, my guild might try running Dragonsoul. If hard mode testing is up we'll do that, if we can only do normal mode we'll likely clear that instead.

If neither are open then we'll probably do LFR: 10 of us can carry the other 15 to victory (hooray for overgearing easy-mode).

If you're interested in participating we'll likely starting around 8:00 EST and calling it quits around 10:00, my priest's name is "touchie" and my paladin is "touchytoo" on the US PVE server. There's usually a spot or two that we have to pug for this sort of thing, so get in touch if you're bored.

Was invited by another guild tonight to their heroic FL run. Seen as though I don't actively raid any more I pounced on the opportunity I was presented with. The other reason I didn't think twice was because the guildies are only at 1/7hc and thats Shannox.

Was funny to see Heroic Beth, Shan, Ryo and Aly pop up in quick succession, was a shame because the guys had to call it quickly didn't even get a chance to play with Baleroc or Domo on hc.

This was really my first attempt at any FL heroics, I normally grind 6/7 on normal and only have 1 Drop which is the Axe from Shannox no other raid drops :( even so my item level is around the 370+ mark not sure exactly what it is due to pvp gear skewing it higher but character stat screen has it at 377. Pretty much have 3/5 Tier Pieces, belt, trink, wrists, cloak and ring from Vendors. Depending on when patch 4.3 is out I might not make the push to get better gear and might just grind the new 5 mans.

On another note I am absolutely shocked though as to how much incoming spike damage a DK actually takes. I hope the changes in the patch to DK tanking make it easier. I found whilst tanking with a Pally that I was having to work harder to stay alive where as when things go tricky for him he could just pop a cooldown I had to time mine to utter perfection and Use death strike in a timely manner. I also have a pally tank in Tier 11 which I find easier to play, its more relaxing, even with inferior gear the healers never complain.

In 5 mans the DK tank prevails for me. There is nothing like smashing 30-35k dps whilst the dps can not even get that high on the trash packs in ZA/ZG. Its just a shame that in Heroic raids playing a DK is not as fun :(

Well, after 5 years I got hacked :( Woke up with 2 e-mails telling me I had a realm transfer and a faction change that completed. I hadn't done either of these. Logged into the account, saw they were valid. My main toon was transfered, and nearly 8000 gold gone as well as an empty inventory. My other 80 toon with money [had almost 4000] had it's money taken too. I added an authenticator, and wrote to blizz. Hoping to get the charges reversed, and the money/items restored.

Edit:

Looks like Blizz is already ontop of it, the two transactions have been removed from my payments, and the account is now locked.

Edit 2:

Blizzard restored my Character and all items/gold, as well as all gold on the un-moved characters. Was done within 20 minutes of me sending support request.

If you didn't have an authenticator on it before it happened, it was a ticking time bomb. It's amazing how persistent the Chinese account hackers are, once they know an account name they work tirelessly trying to force hack it, half the time it isn't even keyloggers or viruses anymore. I hope it all gets sorted out for you.

I had one, then I gave my ex my old cell phone, so I had the Authenticator removed (as it was on my phone). Well, I have the authenticator on now, only problem is.. it doesn't ask me for the code when I login to the game, only the website, so I submitted another ticket. Other than that, everything is back to 100%.

We're pretty excited for this week. We will be getting our Glory of the Firelands Raider achievement along with the coveted (at least by me) Corrupted Fire Hawk. All we have left is 1) Heroic Baleroc which we got down to 6% last week and called it after we had a baddie blow up the raid. All in good fun though. 2) Is Only the Penitent... which will probably be harder for us than anything sadly... Someone always ends up failing!

They changed the game login system for authenticators. If the server sees you're logging in from one of your known addresses it usually doesn't ask for the code.

Hmm. Can't say I am a fan of that. I got the authenticator to STOP the logging in without a key.

I'm reasonably sure they're planning an option to allow you to go back to the old behaviour where it was required for every log in no matter what.

I don't think it's in the game/battle.net yet but it should be coming. I remember reading a blue post that said something like that (I have no link to a source though so I could be talking out of my ass here).

Grats. I still don't have it on any of my toons and probably won't until December. Our efforts have been focused on getting the whole guild the yellow version. Comparing one player on the yellow mount side-by-side with another on the purple one; I think the purple one is 'higher status' because you need to actually kill heroic bosses to get it. Compare a raid full of people on the yellow one against a raid on the purple one and I think the opposite is true.

For those who hated "idiots that can't dance" on Rag, and "Idiots that can't dodge tornados" on Al'akir: Blizzard is bringing a new flavour of failure to Deathwing. "Idiots that can't hold on during barrel roll". Wasting a 10 minute pull because healer's can't stand in a circle gets old really fast. "I forgot to cooldown impale" is also a bucket of fun.

Hmm. Can't say I am a fan of that. I got the authenticator to STOP the logging in without a key.

The deal with that is, once you use the authenticator on that computer, it logs it to the server allowing you to proceed each time after without needing it. If you use a different computer (even in the same household) to log in, you will need to use the authenticator again. I know this because I would log on on my computer all the time, and when I needed to log in on my wife's computer (my PSU died :(), it asked for the authenticator again. I have even seen it ask for the authenticator after a patch before, but it's rare.

Not much going on - looking forward to 4.3 going live so I can break out all my old gear (and reclaim the bank space)

It's a shame the "good title" is going to be super common and elitist jerks (like me) will have to use the less cool one to stand out.

Destroyer's End > Savior of Azeroth.

Bane of the Fallen King > Light of the Dawn.

I'll probably be wearing Dragonslayer on live forever because it's reasonably rare and still a pretty awesome title. Firelord is a stupid title for stupidheads.

PS: last call for a paladin tank. We might have a spot for a rogue too (omg free legendaries!)

    • Apple has clarified Series 9 was left off the watchOS 27 compatibility list by mistake.
    • Signal accuses UK government of using child safety as cover for mass surveillance by David Uzondu Recently, the UK's Home Office announced a sweeping set of proposals to make Britain the "first country in the world" where children cannot share or view nude photos on their smart devices, an initiative that authorities claim will protect children from online predators and combat pornography. In response, Signal believes that while the government must keep children "safe" and "protected," it should do so through social services and education, not by "surveillance, funding cuts, and cover-ups." The company called the plan "dystopian" and warned that it violates everyone's fundamental right to privacy, arguing that scanning on the presumption of nudity will only strengthen the market dominance and data control of giant corporations like Apple and Google. The statement continues by accusing the government of hiding its true intentions under the guise of child safety. Signal argues that the Home Office is building an invisible surveillance infrastructure that remains ripe for exploitation by future administrations and authoritarian regimes. According to the company, this aggressive approach completely ignores the actual needs of young people, such as properly funded schools and mental health services. Tech companies like Apple and Google have a three-month window to implement these mandatory device-level filters across the United Kingdom. If these tech firms refuse to comply with the mandate, the government will pass emergency legislation to force them to comply, threatening massive fines and even going after the CEOs of these companies with criminal charges. The technology will work by blocking explicit images directly on the operating system of all smartphones and tablets by default. This system monitors the device camera and third-party apps to intercept nudity before anyone can upload or send the image. Adults can still view explicit content, but only after completing a strict age verification check to unlock their devices. Several bodies like the NSPCC and Barnardo's praised the Home Office's decision, arguing that device-level intervention stops the cycle of grooming before it starts. The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) also supported the policy, claiming that tech companies can implement on-device checks "without threatening privacy or collecting any data."
    • Did you watch the keynote? It is way beyond what is described in this article. Looks interesting. Now it is time for them to deliver unlike what happened in 24.
    • It pretty much has to be compatible with MS Office or it is going nowhere. The rest of the world runs office including Europe. If it is not compatible it will not survive.
    • Incredible deal gets you free NVMe 512GB SSD with AMD AM5 B850 motherboard for only $150 by Sayan Sen Earlier this week we covered the story of an interesting PC case wherein you can build two full-size computers inside it as in it can house and run an AMD and an Intel system simultaneously. Speaking of building PCs, these are hard times to make one for sure as prices are often very high except during flash sales or discounts. If you are in the market for a 1080p gaming PC then Nvidia's 8GB RTX 5060 Ti is currently on sale for just $330 and you get the latest James Bond game too, for free. Speaking of which, right now there is another incredible sale going on as we can get a free 512 GB NVMe SSD from TeamGroup in the form of the G50 alongside the purchase of an AMD B850 socket AM5 motherboard for only $150 (purchase link under the specs table down below). Getting an AM5 motherboard now in 2026 will be a wise investment for sure, especially since AMD confirmed its commitment to support the socket till at least 2029. The MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI is a micro-ATX motherboard that is compatible with AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors. Since it is AM5, the motherboard works with DDR5 memory and includes MSI’s Memory Boost technology, along with EXPO and XMP support. Connectivity features include built-in Wi-Fi 7 paired with a 5G LAN solution. The board offers a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot with MSI’s EZ M.2 Shield Frozr II thermal solution, that is said to help maintain SSD performance by providing ample cooling against overheating. The technical specifications of the MSI PRO B850M-P WIFI motherboard are given in the table below: Specification Value Form Factor Micro-ATX (mATX), 243.84 × 243.84 mm Chipset AMD B850 Socket AM5 Supported Processors AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 Series Desktop Processors Memory Slots 4 × DDR5 UDIMM Max Memory 256 GB Memory Speed DDR5 8200–5600 MT/s (OC), DDR5 5600–4800 MT/s (JEDEC) Display Outputs 1 × HDMI 2.1 (up to 4K 60Hz) 1 × DisplayPort 1.4 (up to 4K 60Hz) PCIe Slots 1 × PCIe 5.0 x16 (CPU) 3 × PCIe 3.0 x1 (Chipset) Audio Codec Realtek ALC897 Audio Channels 7.1-Channel High Definition Audio M.2 Slots 3 × M.2 slots M.2_1: PCIe 5.0 x4 (CPU) M.2_2: PCIe 4.0 x4 (CPU) M.2_3: PCIe 4.0 x2 (Chipset) M.2 Device Sizes M.2_1: 2280/2260 M.2_2: 2280/2260 M.2_3: 2280 SATA Ports 4 × SATA 6Gb/s RAID Support SATA: RAID 0, 1, 10 NVMe: RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 Rear USB Ports 4 × USB 2.0 2 × USB 5Gbps Type-A 1 × USB 10Gbps Type-A 1 × USB 10Gbps Type-C Front USB Headers 4 × USB 2.0 4 × USB 5Gbps Type-A 1 × USB 10Gbps Type-C LAN Realtek 8126VB 5Gb Ethernet Wireless Networking Wi-Fi 7 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be) Tri-band 2.4GHz / 5GHz / 6GHz MU-MIMO, MLO, 4KQAM Up to 2.9Gbps Bluetooth Bluetooth 5.4 Internal Power Connectors 1 × 24-pin ATX Power 1 × CPU Power 1 × PCIe Power (8-pin) Cooling Headers 1 × CPU Fan 1 × Combo Fan/Pump 3 × System Fan RGB Headers 3 × Addressable RGB Gen2 (JARGB_V2) 1 × RGB LED (JRGB) Additional Internal Headers 2 × Front Panel (JFP) 1 × Chassis Intrusion (JCI) 1 × Front Audio (JAUD) 1 × COM Port (JCOM) 1 × JDASH Tuning Controller 1 × TPM 2.0 Header The free TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe SSD is a PCIe Gen4 and as such it promises to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, helping accelerate game loading, file transfers, and everyday computing tasks. The SSD features an InnoGrit controller and SLC caching technology to support consistent performance. An ultra-thin, patented graphene heatsink is included to aid in heat dissipation. The NAND flash is based on TLC which means it has plenty of endurance up its sleeve. The random performance may not be as amazing as other drives with DRAM though.
