Its almost funny how long i've been playing wow. I started the second it came out of beta, and never looked back. Im 37 now, terminal brain cancer, and the only thing that seems to keep me occupied and half way calm are my dailies and attempting to master every class and spec. I have a lvl 100 toon of every class except paladin, and will have it when i finally buy the new expac i guess. My highest ilvl toon is my frost mage at 730. The rest are 680+. I enjoy the social and gameplay aspect since i cant get out anymore, so im sure ill be here until either it or me finally dies.

Best of luck to you. I hope you enjoy every moment.

I was never a big WoW player, but I recognize its significance within the gaming scene, and I've enjoyed keeping up on its status throughout the years.

There is a lot of good nostalgia shared in this thread.

Thank you. Wow has had a big impact on me, and honestly, I feel it has also kept me out of trouble at least twice. Like everyone else, I would get tired and stop playing after a few months or so, but I always came back. Its just 'relaxing' if that makes any sense at all.

Blizzard responds to criticism of shutting down legacy server Nostalrius:

And also Mark Kern, one of the lead designers from vanilla WoW open letter:

Gonna be honest. I don't see the appeal. From what I remember legacy WoW was grindy and tedious to play similar to how Korean mmos were/are.. But to each their own, if there are enough people who want it, and according to Mark Kern there are, then why not?

It was. And that's why it was great.

The fact only the most dedicated players could achieve some of the things gave the game a mystical feeling. When you saw a full tier 3 player it was something special. When you saw a player with a legendary it was something special. For many casual players just having an epic mount was special. For many players just attuning themselves for Onyxia was an epic journey full of memorable moments. You had a feeling of accomplishment when you did things in the game. Yes there was a lot of grinding and it took time but back then most people were playing a toon or two only. I remember it took me a while to complete the epic mount warlock quest. I needed help from friends and it was very fun despite the grinding.

Now everything is handed to players without requiring any effort. One of my friend decided to start a reunion raid to do Hellfire. Started to play again in January after a 1 year break. Last time i raided seriously was Fireland. To level the toon i wanted to raid with to 100 the only thing i had to do is loot every treasures. Then to gear myself i only had to kill rares in Tanaan Jungle. Then boom in 2 weeks i'm level 100 and fully 695-705. Crafting my eng 715 weapon was not too hard. Doing the legendary ring was easy. At this point it should not be considered legendary gear since it's so easy to get it. In 4 months i made around 200k gold on my main just by doing followers missions and naval missions. Got Archimonde mythic neck in a naval mission .... Now we are 5/13 mythic and we just disbanded cause people felt like there was no point doing it anymore with summer coming and Gorefiend mythic is a pain in the ***. At first we wanted to do heroic only anyway it was a reunion raid for fun. And you can buy 13/13 mythic runs anyway without too much trouble. One of the guy of the group quickly found another mythic group without too much trouble and he is now 9/13 mythic. Me? i could find a group or try to buy a run but i don't really care. This game is not even a mmo anymore. People stay in their garrison doing garrison stuff. Dungeons are easy. Raids are easy. Gearing yourself is ridiculously easy. Making money is easy. Builds don't matter much anymore. You can play mostly all classes by pressing 5 buttons (less in many case). There's no sense of accomplishment in the game anymore. Everything is handed to you. To have something to do people play 10 alts. I started playing again in January and i did everything i wanted to do in the xpac already. I'm level 100. 735 ilevel. Legendary ring maxed. Have around 370k gold on my main. Probably around 600k total. Looted all treasures. Killed all rares. I can fly. I have the raid achievement mounts. I think i could probably pull 50k dps by just pressing my Chimera shot button once every time it's off cd. There's just no point playing anymore and i really don't intend to play next xpac.

The game lost this sense of epic feeling it had. The world was big. Stormwind and Ogrimmar were full of people. There was raids on xroad and Darkshire every day. You had full balanced active pvp servers (now most of the pvp server are unbalanced and unplayable unless you play the dominating faction). Doing things took time and required friends to join you to help. Epic gear was epic. Legendary gear was legendary. I was a casual player back then and i was fine with not having those things and work on my epic mount quest, attunements and dungeon set.

I remember the first time i played wow. Game was 6 months old i think. First time i entered Undercity wow design of the city is so great. Seeing those people fly. Seeing those people on their epic mount. Seeing those people with impressive gears. Going past the Bulwark not knowing what i was doing and being one shot by an infected bear. SM raided by alliance on a regular basis. Having to walk to Shadowfang Keep after finding a group. Took me 6 months to get to 60 and it was a fun journey. Died many time to alliance players. Killed many alliance players. Had to group for group quests. Had to find sellers and walk to them on my 60% mount to buy patterns. Got my first epic a long time after turning 60. Had to read guides to make my build. Gearing myself for first raid. All this required work and time. I was fine with not having the time to do all this. I was fine with not being able to get a mount because it was hard. I was fine with being a casual with **** gear and a **** mount.

And this is news?

I was curious about the movie anyway - all the movie tie-ins do is reward me for it. (Everything except "Legion" is now part of the base game; yes, that includes "Warlords", and applies to all accounts including Starter Edition.  While Starter Edition is - for now, still roadblocked to level 20, I expect THAT roadblock to go away - at the very least for anyone that takes advantage of the movie promotion.  Even with the jacked-up price of matinees. it's still cheaper than the normal monthly sub fee.

In my own case, the closest is the Gallery Place/Verizon Center Stadium 14 - it literally directly abuts the Verizon Center (former MCI Center, and AKA "The Phone Booth") and has Stadium Seating for all 14 screens (with RealD 3D optional, depending on feature.

Source: Blizzard will give out WoW moviegoers a free copy of the game and http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/20120033

The Warcraft movie will sweep into theaters globally in the coming weeks, and we’re excited to share details on some of the major Warcraft movie promotions occurring around the world—including a very special World of Warcraft in-game gift in celebration of the film’s release. Beginning on May 25 through August 1, players who log in to World of Warcraft will receive a set of movie-inspired transmogrification items.

I'm going to do it even though I may not like the game :)

Old news. The items aren't that cool either.

I mean on Neowin :/ and just because it posted everywhere it doesn't mean it old news, I only just found out about it myself.

Actually, it's in the World of Warcraft thread here (in Computer Gaming) - and I'm not the only person that commented on the cross-promotion (which I first saw in the Battle.net app in the News section).

So if I find out about something that happened a year ago but was never posted here-- am I posting new news?

i am not knocking you posting this. I was just pointing out that this started a month ago.

Legion isn't even out yet and they're already talking about future patches, from gamescom. We'll be returning to some classic places.

Anyone else playing this expansion? I'm going to but I haven't decided if I want to get into raiding or not yet.

Playing it for sure. Level 102 already and having a blast.

So why bother posting if you have no interest in it anymore? I'm not saying you can't it just seems kind of strange to post just say not interested.

I just saw the topic in the minispy and I know Legion was releasing that night. I used to play and now won't ever touch it again. So it was simply my two cents. Just because I don't play anymore doesn't mean I'm not allowed in a Neowin thread about it.

I said as much, didn't I?

Would you have preferred that I didn't post at all? I guess I'm equally confused by your original response as you are of mine. Seems kind of silly, it's just a comment.

You do you. If you want to post in threads about games you don't care about who am I to stop you?

    • Apple announces iOS 27 with no changes to the list of supported iPhones by Taras Buria At WWDC 2026 in Cupertino, Apple announced iOS 27, the next mobile operating system for compatible iPhones. The update focuses on tweaking and improving last year's iOS 26, particularly in areas like app launch time, Liquid Glass design, and more. Additionally, Apple has reworked Apple Maps with a significantly enhanced Flyover view for a much more realistic view. Apple also promises better performance, smarter search, new Health features, new parental controls, and more. The most important part is that iOS 27 is compatible with all iPhones that can run iOS 26. That means that even the seven-year-old iPhone 11 can run iOS 27 (supposedly better than iOS 26). iOS 27 will be available this Fall, with the first developer betas expected later today. You can follow the live stream here.

Sandboxie allows you to run your browser, or any other program, so that all changes that result from the usage are kept in a sandbox environment, which can then be deleted later. Sandboxie is a sandbox-based isolation software for 32- and 64-bit Windows NT-based operating systems. It is being developed by David Xanatos since it became open source, before that it was developed by Sophos (which acquired it from Invincea, which acquired it earlier from the original author Ronen Tzur). It creates a sandbox-like isolated operating environment in which applications can be run or installed without permanently modifying the local or mapped drive. An isolated virtual environment allows controlled testing of untrusted programs and web surfing. Sandboxie is available in two flavors Plus and Classic. Both have the same core components, this means they have the same level of security and compatibility. What's different is the user interface the Plus build has a modern Qt based UI which supports all new features that have been added since the project went open source. The Classic build has the old no longer developed MFC based UI, hence it lacks support for modern features, these features can however still be used when manually configured in the Sandboxie.ini. • Ocenaudio 3.19.2 by Razvan Serea Ocenaudio is a full featured, fast and easy to use audio and music editor. It is the ideal software for people who need to edit and analyze audio files without complications. Ocenaudio also has powerful features that will please more advanced users. To assist ocenaudio development, a powerful toolset of audio editing, analysis and manipulation called Ocen Framework was created. ocenaudio is also based on Qt framework, a well known library for cross-platform development. Cross-platform support ocenaudio is available for all major operating systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Native applications are generated for each platform from a common source, in order to achieve excelent performance and seamless integration with the operating system. All versions of ocenaudio have a uniform set of features and the same graphical interface, so the skills you learn in one platform can be used in the others. VST plugins support Ocenaudio supports VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins, giving its users access to numerous effects. Like the native effects, VST effects can use real-time preview to aide configuration. Real-time preview of effects Applying effects such as EQ, gain and filtering is an important part of audio editing. However, it is very tricky to get the desired result by adjusting the controls configuration alone: you must listen the processed audio. To ease the configuration of audio effects, ocenaudio has a real time preview feature: you hear the processed signal while adjusting the controls. The effect configuration window also includes a miniature view of the selected audio signal. You can navigate on this miniature view in the same way as you do on the main interface, selecting parts that interest you and listening to the effect result in real time. Multiselection for delicate editions To speed up complex audio files editing, ocenaudio includes multi-selection. With this amazing tool, you can simultaneously select different portions of an audio file and listen, edit or even apply an effect to them. For example, if you want to normalize only the excerpts of an interview where the interviewee is talking, just select them and apply the effect. Eficient edition of large files With ocenaudio, there is no limit to the length or the quantity of the audio files you can edit. Using an advanced memory management system, the application keeps your files open without wasting any of your computer's memory. Even in files several hours long, common editing operations such as copy, cut or paste happen almost instantly. Fully featured spectrogram Besides offering an incredible waveform view of your audio files, ocenaudio has a powerful and complete spectrogram view. In this view, you can analyze the spectral content of your audio signal with maximum clarity. Advanced users will be surprised to find that the spectrogram settings are applied in real time. The display is updated immediately when altering features such as the number of frequency bands, window type and size and dynamic range of the display. Ocenaudio 3.19.2 changelog: Fixes a crash when starting the graphical interface without a display on Linux Fixes MP3 metadata encoding and ID3 tag writing issues on Windows Fixes a crash when loading audio with autosave enabled on Windows user paths containing non-ASCII characters Fixes a freeze when batch-processing more than 5 files with a 64-bit VST plugin Fixes some conditions in audio mixer Fixes loudness statistics for surround files and Short-Term Maximum Loudness accuracy Other bug fixes and improvements Download: Ocenaudio 64-bit | Portable | ~40.0 MB (Freeware) Download: Ocenaudio for Linux and Mac OS View: Ocenaudio Homepage | Screenshot Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
