Apple to drop sub-$500 Mac bomb at Expo

they are concept picture idkfa, it could come out looking very different. however i believe it would be similar to this myself in looks, it just fits in nicely.

if it looks like that, comes with tiger when tiger is out and has a little more power in it then what thinksecret says.. eg 1.5ghz would be nice. then this could definately be a nice machine. would be nice if they had a couple in the headless lineup.. 2 diff speeds, combo drive and super drive etc.. ofcourse the prices would change but a headless range would be nice. :)

yes I realize that, but even design concepts need to deal with technology's needs.

I just commented on these concepts, and gave my opinion about possible improvements :)

I'd really love this to be true, thinksecret have got another story alongside it as well:

iWork '05. If they updated Appleworks so it was nice and up to date, with Office compatibility then this headless Mac + bundled iWork '05 would make a nice little machine.

Definately and it also puts the affordability of mac's into the small business's hand.

Something that has been hard to compete with pcs.

I'm looking forward to see apples offerings.

I've never understood this, what exactly is wrong with office 2004? I find it perfect for my needs!

And its cheap as a student too, but even when I move outa student zone i'll buy it.

Sheesh.. if you are gonna troll, at least try and make it sound intelligable.

Yes you are going to need a monitor. Thats what all this talk of the machine being HEADLESS has to do with. Its hardly they've neglected to mention this little nugget of information so far is it.

And quite honestly MacOSX is reliable and sturdy. Crashing is not a problem!

?400 for a computer without a monitor? Do you seriously think anyone, even iPod buyers, would get that? No.

Personally I think either this xMac is going to be used for very different purposes as to what we usually use of PC's for, or Apple is going to have to use fair exchange rates.

you can get a 17" TFT for 200?, not a big issue imho.

I think it's funny that trolls are grumbling about macs always having a monitor integrated and the high price because of that, and now with the headless mac (maybe) coming, they hate it because there is no monito:wacko:o:

I've never said this but it is likely because they usually charge 30-50 % more on the display than they should.

We will find out in a week if this really will occur. You know, people have been wanting these for years, and I wouldn't be surprised if everyone got their hopes all up again. I do hope it happens, it would be a nice machine, but I won't be disappointed if it doesn't.

Anyways, I just had one comment on the PowerBook's screen not being able to tilt back a full 180?. If you look at the hinge design, it's physically impossible for the screen to do this without raising up the PowerBook off what it is sitting on. And what use is it to have a display open at 180?? I can think of none. This hinge design has been used on iBooks for years and I was really happy to see it on the PowerBook. It helps keep the thin form factor, unlike this brand new HP laptop I helped set up today, which weighed a lot more than my PowerBook and was almost twice as thick.

Nothing's wrong, but if they include this sort of functionality out of the box it's a massive selling point.

How thin is the powerbook? I'm not saying that this would prevent me from getting one but a small thing like this can make a difference. How far does it tilt anyway? My T41 is like 1.1" and ~5 pounds. The perfect notebook size I suppose. (For me anyway)

Powerbooks have slot load drives though right? That seems cool. I could see that making them thinner.

    • If you don't care to read what I said, then you prove my point. Maybe written media is beyond your attention span. Titles are not summaries my friend.
    • Nobody asked... in fact, I said "I don't care about political leanings"
    • TLDR. Here is a far better title (just a basic example): Windows 11 26H2 to allow disabling Web search results
    • Restore will get my vote, only if to see if things are any different, doubt it though but Labour and Conservatives too out of touch and same thing over and over and over…, Lib Dem who?
    • There is nothing wrong with this title. You have completely missed the plot when it comes to "clickbait." The issue was never that a title tries to entice you to click, that is how titles have worked for over 100 years. The issue is when the title subverts expectations, getting you to click expecting something that isn't there. The classic clickbait example is "Boyfriend caught cheating, what happens next will shock you," then what happened next is the girlfriend was upset...which is probably the least shocking outcome imaginable. If sounds like what you want is for the titles to be a collection of 10-word summaries that you can skim, get the just of the story, and only click if you want more details. That is not, never has been, and never will be what titles are. You can go all the way back to print newspapers during the great depression and see the same thing. The newspaper was locked in a vending machine, all you can see is the headline, you choose to put in 5¢ to buy the paper and read the rest if you want. Those headlines were written in a way to sell the paper, not just to provide a summery. Here are two actual headlines from that time, "Wall Street Lays an Egg," or "Stocks Hit Bottom?" Maybe you'd say something like "it was wrong then and it's still wrong now." Okay, fine opinion to have, but it isn't like Neowin is doing something unjurnalistic, they are just following the age-old standards for written media.
