Probably going to be purchasing the following configuration. I"m just conserned about its cost and if i've gotten the best products

Leave Intel but critique the other stuff. :)

Probably going to happen within 4-6 weeks... 99.9% positive. :)

.1 = Worth it & Cost.

$55 less and better performance.

If I was building a similar rig, I would have gone for a PCIe 6800GT for $450 or wait for X800XL to hit its MSRP.

Not a big fan of the case, either; I prefer the Cooler Master Wave Master Aluminum. But case is purely a personal thing, so go with what you like.

I think the NEC-3520A is a better DVD burner. I also think Raptors are overrated; but since you've got it, flaunt it.

You're going Intel, so I'm not going to comment any further; I don't know anything about them.

Edit: The OP said that they wanted the system within 4-6 weeks; I seriously doubt the X800XL will even be out by then. ****in ATI...

Guys I've updated it with a coolermaster :D

It's a sharp looking case, but I have to question the airflow. One 80mm exhaust for a case that size? That's a bit cheap as far as I'm concerned, especially since you're going to be overclocking I presume. If you weren't, you wouldn't spend the bones on that high end Asus board.

All in all, I have to question whether or not this is worth $3000. As far as I'm concerned, no, it isn't, but then again I don't have that kind of money to spend on a system like this.

stncttr908, it doesn't have the greatest airflow in the world but it certainly isn't bad either. The case being all aluminum helps dissipate some of the heat as well. One thing I did was swap out the three fans that come with it for some quieter models that move a little move air.

Basically, it seems as though this system is setup to run games at his 2001FP's native res of 1600x1200. If that's the case I would just get a 6800GT AGP and let that be the end of it. My roommate got a PNY 6800GT brand new for $345 and even his Athlon XP 2600+ system flies.

Honestly my Radeon 9800 Pro doesn't do bad @ 16x12 right now :)

I'm upgrading to PCI-express. so AGP is not an option.

Since i'm moving to PCI-e I figure i'd just go for broke :p

Pricey ????? That doesnt seem pricey at all to me, sounds about right for that hardware.....

Cases are kinda "beauty is in the eye of the Beholder", some have functionality, some are made better than others (no sharp edges, well-milled, access to USB ports, thermo/fan displays, etc.) The only thing that really blows goats are those Raidmax Samurai looking things ...I think even if youre 12 years old, you would get your butt kicked in the playground for owning one of those.

Opticals: Cant go wrong with Plextor

PSU: NeoPower - arguably the 2nd Best PSU there is....

Sounds cArd: Audigy2 ZS still the King

Mobo: arguable the finest motherboard on the market (has everything but the kitchen sink!)

Didnt see any notations for speakers ? what are your options there ?

Personally I would try to shave a couple of hundred dollars from doing some smart shopping and go with 2x1024 Corsair Pro RAM...2 Gigs will soon be commonplace.

Im not gonna get into a nvidia/ATI pi$$ing match, yes the x850 is 7% faster than the 6800 Ultra(yes Im an nVidia fanboy- just dont like ATI software/drivers), but I have read its loud...like nVidia 5800 loud !! plus it takes 2 spots a la nVidia. Either way youre gonna have a great machine.

Let us know once you get to playing around with that mobo, and if they finally went ahead and put the kitchen sink in there as well ...

has something like 8 SATA hookups ??? thats crazy

If you havent had SATA drives yet, they are notorious for coming out of their connection...so get the 3rd party clip which holds them in place (Vantec maybe) ?? Directron.com has them...

Congrats, and once you get it built, lets see some pics of that beast !

    • I agree, especially if it is cloud sourced, like this one is.. but I wouldn't say no to a local AI assistant similar to the Zettlab one which would be really helpful with my large Photos library, but also to perform tasks like installing Docker apps rather than me having to do it via Docker Compose, but I don't think we're quite there yet. Synology Photos is somewhat AI, you can ask it to search for certain people (if you have tagged them and it will attempt to match similar photos to the person) and if you put a search term in for "cars" for example, it will show you all photos with a car.
    • I doubt that Google will keep the same price... it may go up from that list published.

The Sennheiser HD 600 has long been regarded as a reference headphone for listeners seeking a detailed and natural listening experience. It is an open-back design that is built around the idea of acoustic transparency which is essentially said to allow sound waves to move freely for a more spacious and accurate presentation by reducing turbulence and the type of distortion that can result from it. At the heart of the product is Sennheiser’s proprietary driver system featuring a 42 mm driver paired with a lightweight diaphragm and aluminum voice coils. The company says this design helps deliver fast response times and better articulate sound across the audible frequency range. Comfort and durability are also key aspects of the HD 600 as the headphones feature soft velour ear pads designed for extended listening sessions. The HD 600 comes with a detachable 3-meter cable, a 6.3 mm stereo connector, and a 3.5 mm adapter for compatibility with a wide range of audio equipment. The technical specs of the Sennheiser HD 600 are given in the table below: Specification Value Transducer Principle Dynamic, Open-Back Ear Coupling Circumaural (Over-Ear) Frequency Response 12 Hz – 40,500 Hz Sound Pressure Level (SPL) 97 dB (1 V) Impedance 300 Ω Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) < 0.1% (1 kHz, 1 V) Cable Length 3 m (9.8 ft) Connector 3.5 mm Stereo Jack Plug Included Adapter 6.3 mm (1/4") Stereo Jack Adapter Weight 260 g Magnetic Field Strength 1.8 mT Driver Size 42 mm Dynamic Driver Diaphragm Size 38 mm Get it at the link below: Sennheiser HD 600: $237.00 (Sold by Electronics Expo, Shipped by Amazon US) (Was: $449.95) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified.
