how many of you here have switched to mac?

Recommended Posts

I just switched from pc to mac about 2 months ago. My only regret is that i wish i would have switched sooner. Seriously i love the mac. OSX is great. Some of the apps i used on pc aren't on mac, so i had to find some replacements. Most were better than the pc counterpart. I don't do much gaming, but every now and then I'll miss the pc for that. But i'm making do with the Mac and my PS2.

Unless you are a gamer, I would recommend to anyone they should get a Mac.

only apple would tell the whole world how stupid it's customer base is by giving them a 1 button mouse.

they dont think you are smart enough to use a mouse with more than 1 button, and if you bought a mac, neither do i..

Yeah, well done. Thanks for that amazing contribution to this thread. One thing we do agree on, what it says above your avatar.

As for switching to mac's, yeah. I bought my iMac about 6 weeks ago now and I haven't used my PC once. All depends on what you use it for as well, although I don't think that there is anything I can't do on my mac that I can do on my PC.

Mac's look extremley sweeeet and work well too, my cousin has got a Power Mac G4 and a PowerBook G4 he's a graphic designer and I have to say I wouldn't mind if he "donated" eithier one of those little beauty's to me hehe.

However, PC's are just fine for me does everything I need/want.

I couldn't live with the mac's lack of gaming functionality tho.

In short if I had to choose between a mac and my pc - I'd choose both ;):) [greedy s.o.b. or what? ;)]

Yeah, definately not. Especially if you're a hardcore gamer. I play games every now and again, I play RTCW on my iMac, maxed out and it plays well, I've got a few other games as well, but If you are someone who has got a massive gaming collection and a kick-ass PC for gaming then you won't switch to mac.

Unless you're like riven_uk and get both and be greedy ;)

The first computer I called "my own" was a Macintosh Plus... It sucked. After that I got a Pentium Pro 120mhz .. and have used AMDs after that. I will never switch to a Mac unless they decide to buy out the entire PC industry therefore causing a monopoly and forcing me to conform to the Apple.

Thats an amazingly mature, well thought response.:right: You must have years of experience with Macs.......right? I find what it says above your avatar extremely ironic.

As for me, I haven't switched yet, but I plan on buying an iBook this summer. Just have to make a few more bucks. I am a little hesitant sice I have never used a Mac for more than an hour but I have read a lot and I am confident I will love it. I honestly cannot wait.:D

i used to work with macs until about two years ago. i had an imac (the first ones that came out.. green, powerpc, 233mhz, 32mg ram with macos 8.1). i really enjoy macintosh. it's very intuitive, very sweet and works very well. but then comes the update problem. the hardware and software are too expensive if you want to keep it permanently updated :( one of the arguments that mac users defend is that when you buy a mac you don't need to update so often as the pc users. sorry, but i do not agree. like in a pc, there are also new updates being released constantly. i wish macs get cheaper in the future...

Well, I just got the internship I wanted to day. So, with financing, I'll most likely be getting a new iMac this summer (toward the end). Let me just say, I'm WAY too excited :D

Between that and the upgrades to my AMD box (aka. "The Rig") I'll have all the gaming power I need, plus all the Aqua goodness I can stand...

JOY!

Well it really isn't an opinion. Byte magazine did some research on it. Macs last 4 years, average pc less than 2. Bottom line, is that the current G4s will last for quite a long time. I don't see Mac doing anything with OS X that will outdate any current Macs within 4 years. But with PCs, Microsoft tends to outdate everything with every new OS release. Next up is Longhorn and Blackcomb. Each of those will put a hurt on pcs.

The more Intel and AMD run up the mhtz war, the quicker your current pc will be out of date. Software developers will take as much power as they are given. Whereas Apple releases 2 maybe 3 big hardware updates per year. Slower releases equals longer life for current machines.

Another thing I've jsut learnt about my mac is the ability for file sharing and accessing it from anywhere.

Simple click of a button and it's on. Apache built in, how sweet is that.

I leave my iMac on 24/7 so when I go to college, I still open and save all my documents on my iMac. How cool is that!

Call me a simple dumbass, but that's what Apple are best at, talk about ease of use...

Knowing me though, I've probably opened the doors for everyone now :s

yeah I know exactly what ya mean, I switched from using a razer boomslang and a ms intellimouse both of which you can use by plugging it into a usb port back to the apple pro mouse just because of the fact that mastering the one button mouse seemed a bit more challenging. Unspec can actually use the apple pro mouse on windows with no probs at all, I think some people are just too lazy/stupid to learn keyboard shortcuts and so they are intimidated by the lack of a second mouse button.

lmao :D :D

I gave up using the one button mouse after about 20 minutes. I tried, I really did.

I must be one of those dumbasses that Apple sell to, to even contemplate using it.

Intellimouse suits me down to the ground, at least MS do something right...
