Windows XP SP2 already long enough (since August last year)

and many hotfix and other patches launched til today.

so, I hope Microsoft working on Windows XP SP3.

Which contain:

- All Fix as usual.

- Better compatibility with older software, so reducing complain from IT people like now.

- Internet Explorer 7.

- Better technology for stopping the pirated version, Trojan, ETC.

- and other improvements.

what do you think ? Thanks

nope no public testers yet. hopefully they'll take their time and release it at the end of next year at the earliest. i had so many problems with SP2, which i don't want to go through again, and I'm sure businesses would be p***ed off if there was another major update with 2 years.

I highly doubt Internet Explorer 7 will be included in Service Pack 3 because they would run into too much trouble with the goverment over the issue of including IE7 in it.

Plus, don't hope for a Service Pack like Service Pack 2 which contained new features among other stuff. Service Pack 3 afaik will be a normal Service Pack with bugfixes and minor improvements to Windows.

That true :p Well originally that was Microsoft's plan but according to what I've read after being hit with a summer worms & attacks against Windows they changed there focus in regards with what they want done for SP2

Originally, Service Pack 2 was to have been the simple, standard collection of post-RTM bug fixes that users now expect. But a spate of nasty electronic attacks against Windows computers last summer caused the company to step back and reassess what it could do with this release.

We looked at some of the security technologies we were developing that provide protection above the patch level, like the firewall, security technologies that shield the lower pieces below it. We realized we could make a big impact with a few features without churning through the code again. So we decided to put these security technologies in place [with SP2]

I know for a fact that IE7 won't be released for XP until Longhorn is released.

With SP3, it'll prolly come out when Longhorn comes out.

If anything before then, it will be a roll-up.

That is my assumptions. ;)

LOL Where do you get your facts from? I'm guessing their not based on knowledge.

I doubt Microsoft will make customers wait till late 2006 for IE7 for Windows XP. Same for XP SP3.

Some of us rather not pay for a browser that renders 10% of web pages incorrectly, I have that with Firefox but at least it's free and has other features that make up for it's shortcomings.

You need to check yourself before posting false facts. Bill Gates gave a keynote on February 15, 2005 at the RSA Conference.

What we've decided to do is a new version of Internet Explorer, this is IE 7... We will be able to put this into beta by early in the summer [of 2005]... Of course, as well, we'll include these capabilities in the next release of Windows scheduled for 2006 [longhorn]

This just shows you that its going to be available BEFORE longhorn.

NOTE: IE7 will only be available to users running XP SP2.
