I am 99% sure it give the option to install & co-exist with an existing Windows install. Not sure if you need to clear out some empty space first, or if it offers to shrink your Windows parititons...

also note...unless theyve changed their system, if you copy the link when you download the iso, and remove the file (eg dl.com\dir\file.iso -> dl.com\dir\ ) and put that in your address bar, you can get other goodies too :)

Isn't it legal to download it from file-sharing programs anyway? I thought I remembered reading that a while back.

No it's not. It's still commercial software. This is an special offer from Linspire, but downloading Linspire off a P2P client is no different than downloading Windows XP from a P2P client. Piracy is Piracy.

got this a few moths ago in my mail :)

I know I'm gonna hate asking this, but why do you eat your tea? :p

u not from the UK? :p its a slang term in the UK for dinner

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tea (see #5)

its not illegal to download from file-sharing programs, unless the material your downloading is copyright / you dont have a license to do it..

thanks, works great for me, downloading now via FTP (flashfxp) at 200kbps. I remember when they did something similar last year for linspire 4.5, all you had to do was copy the ftp shortcut from the download window and you could access the FTP site and download pretty much anything you wanted :)

Agreed.

The purpose of this coupon offer is to get people to register their copy in some sort of controlled fashion where Linspire can (presumably) gauge interest by counting the downloads.

Using a torrent or other such method would defeat their purpose of the coupon releases.

The sheer greed in this OS is suffocating. I mean they try to push antivirus software on users to protect them from windows virii :argh:

If that wasn't bad enough, you have to PAY for UPDATES. Even Microsoft never pulled that crap with their OS's. I mean seriously, you're demanding that the user either pay continual fees, or be forced to live with defective and flawed software (including security flaws).

Ease of use is one thing, but this is just preying on the helpless.

Well, I do agree that this is crazy to have to pay for updates, but if we (you and I) do not like it, then no one is forcing us to download it and install it... much less use it.

First go here.

Click "Buy Linspire"

Click "Apply Coupon"

Enter: linspire4RA

The next confirmation screen (for me at least) showed my download to be for 4.5.  Ignore that and go to your downloads section > products and 5.0 will be listed as an option.

See also they are giving you a month free of their CLick-n-Run service as well.

Review of Linpsire 5.0

Enjoy!

    • If you don't care to read what I said, then you prove my point. Maybe written media is beyond your attention span. Titles are not summaries my friend.
    • Nobody asked... in fact, I said "I don't care about political leanings"
    • TLDR. Here is a far better title (just a basic example): Windows 11 26H2 to allow disabling Web search results
    • Restore will get my vote, only if to see if things are any different, doubt it though but Labour and Conservatives too out of touch and same thing over and over and over…, Lib Dem who?
    • There is nothing wrong with this title. You have completely missed the plot when it comes to "clickbait." The issue was never that a title tries to entice you to click, that is how titles have worked for over 100 years. The issue is when the title subverts expectations, getting you to click expecting something that isn't there. The classic clickbait example is "Boyfriend caught cheating, what happens next will shock you," then what happened next is the girlfriend was upset...which is probably the least shocking outcome imaginable. If sounds like what you want is for the titles to be a collection of 10-word summaries that you can skim, get the just of the story, and only click if you want more details. That is not, never has been, and never will be what titles are. You can go all the way back to print newspapers during the great depression and see the same thing. The newspaper was locked in a vending machine, all you can see is the headline, you choose to put in 5¢ to buy the paper and read the rest if you want. Those headlines were written in a way to sell the paper, not just to provide a summery. Here are two actual headlines from that time, "Wall Street Lays an Egg," or "Stocks Hit Bottom?" Maybe you'd say something like "it was wrong then and it's still wrong now." Okay, fine opinion to have, but it isn't like Neowin is doing something unjurnalistic, they are just following the age-old standards for written media.
