Linspire is not free (beer). Just like Suse and several other distros, bu tI am sure you actually knew that.

didn't work for me... I click on Check Out but no download links

It is probably tucked away under My Products.

what is the differences between Linspire and others Linux distros?

It is supposed to be a very easy Linux distro to use. A lot of systems in place to hand hold you through installing apps (actaully more like it does it for you).

I say "supposed to be" becuase I personally haven't used it beyond about 10 minutes with the Live CD. I'll see if I can spare a partition and install it proper later.

Agreed.

The purpose of this coupon offer is to get people to register their copy in some sort of controlled fashion where Linspire can (presumably) gauge interest by counting the downloads.

Using a torrent or other such method would defeat their purpose of the coupon releases.

I only asked because I thought I read that Linspire had released a version on to P2P networks for free, because they didn't have to worry about the costs of distribution. It was a while back but I was sure that there was a scheme like this a while back.

Still, I guess even if it did exist that it doesn't now because, as you said, a coupon scheme would be pretty redundant. Sorry for any confusion.

I know that Xandros does this for the exact reason you mention. Not sure about Linspire, though. I don't really follow them all that much.

I've used 5-0 and I'll say it right off the bat:

For any of you who wanted to try Linux but were afraid to, this is perfect for you. The install is literally 3 button clicks, takes maybe 10 minutes in total (probably less but I wasn't in front of the PC heh) and the actual OS is pretty good to. Yes, it's a streamlined Windows-like OS, made very easy for new people to get used to and Linux purists rag on it all the time. To bad. If it gets people to use Linux, what is the problem? :)

Either way, if you've never used Linux before I'd recommend Linspire over ANY distro to be honest. It's about as easy as you get.

I've just "bought" this using the coupon. Do i have to download it immediately or can i just do it anytime i wish? Also, could someone clarify wether or not you can install this whilst leaving your windows install as-is? and how do you choose what to boot into if you can? :p

any time you wish, I still have the 4.5 version available from when it first came out.

Thanks a ton for this! Installing it on my secondary computer now

Can i assume this wont co-exist with windows (xp or otherwise) then?

no matter how great linux and its offshoots are, i love xp and to a degree need it, so can't get rid of it for any reason at all.

from what I can tell it should be able to coexist, but I have a junk computer laying around that I install linux distros on all the time, which is why I'm installing it on that. I'm not 100% sure about them being able to coexist though, can anyone else confirm this?
