[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Oh crap now here's a dope idea. Ok so the controller itself communicates to the revolution wirelessly, however the controller has the needed AV output to connect it to a TV or monitor meaning that in lan games everyone could have thier own TV but share a system with only thier controllers. You could make the controllers daisy chainable so 4 players could still play on a given TV but if everyone had a TV they could just do 1 tv a piece. or if you're just home alone or whatever you could plug your controller into any TV in the house and play a game so you don't have to keep moving the system.

You actually have a really good ideal, but would need some sort of video/audio controller chip in every conroller.

:shifty: /Runs to patent office.

ya, those pesky video taking, game playing phones are doing so horribly aren't they?

And those PDA's with the game playing, music playing, movie playing features, what are they thinking?!?

[/sarcasm]

People like a device that does more than one thing. Eg) PSP

585940107

Yes, but with all of those devices people are still buying separate iPods, PDAs, and phones. We see more devices which do the same task, yet people still purchase separate things. All of these devices can do many things but only one particularly well, which is why people still buy all of them. That was my point. This doesn't have much to do with Revolution though, so safer to just end it.

Nah just something that translates wifi to RF/component/VGA. No need to actually DO the processing in the controller because your latency in your own house should be low enough that all the system should have to do is transmit the video stream to the controller and then the controller just outputs the stream to your TV.

That is why I changed my statement after my thought. I typed the wrong piece of hardware, I meant a video/audio controller.

I think it'd be hard to find WiFi which would run full video that consistently.

Security cameras do. When I was in engineering school in college some group did wireless security cameras as part of their senior project. They were able to record one floor up and receive it in a basement. Its essentially the same technology that wireless routers/modems use in homes and businesses. You can have a microcontroller decode the signal into the audio/video signals and then send the signals through proper controller chips to output to the TV.

I don't think so, in the PC world where a consortium has to make standards so thousands of periphiels can work on it then yes, computer wifi isn't there but this is a closed market game system, they could design whatever they want. If you can transmit a hifi digital TV 720p over the airwaves then you could make wifi do the same.

What hampers the PC industry is the need for everything from different companies to interact and the need to retain backwards compatability with the existing infrastructure. This infrastructure doesn't have to worry about any of that.

Yeah, but a security camera is one thing, but compared to a full blown color image constantly shifting and changing is another. Plus the fact that if the image hiccups even a little, it'd be almost completely worthless as a gaming system. I'm sure wireless video will be the standard in the future, but probably not for a while.

Interesting theory. That would be a neat trick to play on E3 people.  :woot:

TWO BIG THINGS:

NEWS: (Someone just beat Nintendo ON to the VR thing at E3)

http://www.myth-games.com/news111.htm

-------------

Also My New Theory:

Why else would Nintendo make an updated GBA? I am 100% sure their PR knows it will only be a gimic....

Why do we have access to Nintendo's whole library of games?

Why did the conference talk about how everything will connect, but in a new innovative way?

Well I'm sure your already catching on to my theory.

GBA Micro will be able to connect to the Nintendo Revolution and store games you download from the Internet on the handheld. That way, if you see a game you like, all you have to do is download it, transfer it to the GBA Micro and go on your way.

(all wirelessly)

------------

I also believe that the Nintendo Revolution's controllers will allow players to "feel" the game - to a certain extent. I recently read on another forum that upcoming titles such as Waverunner have names that incorporate the sense of touch. GRasp and Waverunner:Feel the Wave or something are two titles that come to mind.

Hi, me again. People are saying that he plugged it in at the conference. I've just watched it ten times, and call me crazy, but it really really looks like he's plugging a wire into the dock, not into the console. Not only this, but after he does it he shifts the entire thing a little bit to the side, making sure it is directly facing the audience. At first I thought this was just a little adjustment for perfection's sake, but now, yeah... it really looks like he's plugging in the dock.

Go to 34 minutes and 38 seconds, then watch it a few times. Thanks for making me check this out.

Does anyone have a good quality DL link? Steaming is a pain.

Edited to fix the time.

A better confirmation of this is that while Iwata ends his speech, he just picks up the revolution and leaves. Which means like you said, the revolution is not plugged, but the dock itself.

Update: Actually no, you are wrong. I double checked, for a split second his hand is back of the revolution and it seems he pulls the plug.

Besides there are images released by nintendo of revolution without the dock and still having the blue illuminating light, not to mention, how would you able to set it horizontally if dock supplies the power. Iwata said you can place revolution both ways.

very interesting find, i wonder if it will be the same in the final design

edit: after reading the edit to the post above....

edit again..... u want some more ???

post-62063-1116450413.jpg

now make some asumptions :p

heres mine

wtf are those 4 ports at the top ??? GC controllers???? or for its new controllers or for something else???

The guy Aries, the supposed ex-Nintendo employee, on the Broken Saints page said that Nintendo will incorporate some sort of pressure grips on their controllers besides the gyroscopes, which is not that far fetched at all. Going with your example about Waverunner, squeezing one grip would accelerate the jet ski, while loosening your grip will basically take your had off the acceleration.

Then again if Aries is right, Nintendo will be pulling the greatest hoax off tomorrow. :shifty:

Well it could be two things:

Either the images are renders and the blue glow isn't real

Or the system itself has a battery like he suggested and is powereding itself

Because I don't see a plug in any of those shots

But then I guess they could be real pics with the plug edited out.....

Basically I guess we can't really speculate at all.

the whole point of our discussion was that the dock was a CHARGER, leading to the conclusion that the revolution has a rechargeable battery in there somewhere? perhaps the blue light is actually a battery meter! haha...

the power cord obviously goes into the dock, you can see it from a couple angles throughout iwatas speech.

btw that pic i posted is not the back of it... its the top of it with the top open :p

585940404

We know, that is supposed to be to retain backwards compatability with the gamecube, hence the cube controller ports and memory card slots.

the power cord obviously goes into the dock

585940391

so then....what if you want to play with the console on its side and you never ever even touch the dock??

there has to be a plug on the console....i think its just a vertical stand....at least from the pictures i've seen....could i be wrong...possibly....but what sense would it make to plug in the "dock" but then also have a regular plug incase you never want it to stand up....

the whole point of our discussion was that the dock was a CHARGER, leading to the conclusion that the revolution has a rechargeable battery in there somewhere.  i believe when he disconnects the rev, the blue light is still on isnt it? perhaps the blue light is actually a battery meter! haha...

the power cord obviously goes into the dock

585940391

What is the point of charging the console though?

Obviously the blue light when not plugged in means nothing, as mentioned.

He does unplug it at the end, and to me, it still looks like the plug is coming out of the dock. It's not as good a view as when he plugs it in (the shot is kind of far away), but his hand is still at the very bottom.

Also, when he walks from one side of the stage to the other you get another decent look.

I'm sure someone could cut out these portions of the video which would make it easier to see. I could still use a nonsteaming version if anyone has a link.

Using a MS standard just means Euro-Office is just a "bastardized MS Office Suite." (Wasn't a major purpose of Euro-Office was to get away from being captive and enslaved to MS's Office Suite??)

Speaking of Defender, Microsoft will now deliver EDR updates via Microsoft Update for faster security improvements independent of Patch Tuesday updates. Following the release of this month's Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft also published new Windows 11 images available in the Media Creation Tool app. Now, you can create bootable USB media for clean Windows 11 installations with the latest releases. Some unfortunate stuff is going on with certain PCs from Dell and HP. Google has some bad news for those still using MV2-based extensions in Chromium-based browsers, particularly Chrome. The company is now removing flags responsible for Manifest V2-based extensions (uBlock Origin is one of the most popular). However, some browsers resist this change, and Opera issued a statement that it will allow users to continue using MV2 extensions for as long as possible. While Microsoft is still not ready to share new details about MV2 extensions in Microsoft Edge, the company shared important details about the way it will be updating the browser going forward. Now, Microsoft wants to update Edge every two weeks across all platforms instead of the current four-week schedule (only the Extended Stable is exempt from this change). This week, Microsoft confirmed a useful new Teams feature that is coming to the messenger soon. It also detailed all the improvements that made the platform better for users in 2026. However, not all changes are great, as the company is moving ahead with the check-in feature, which many believe will lead to employee monitoring. PowerToys received a feature update this week. Reviews are in Here is the hardware and software we reviewed this week Steven Parker reviewed a rather unorthodox device here on Neowin this week. He took for a spin the DWARF mini, the world's smallest smart telescope for night and day sky captures. It tracks objects in the sky, has a sun filter, and has a low learning curve. There is also nice build quality and a quite affordable price. Pulasthi Ariyasinghe reviewed 007 First Light. The game turned out to be a satisfying spy adventure in the James Bond universe with great gunplay and combat, impressive crowds, over-the-top action sequences, and more. There are a few quirks here and there, but overall, the game scored high on our scale. On the gaming side Learn about upcoming game releases, Xbox rumors, new hardware, software updates, freebies, deals, discounts, and more. Microsoft held the latest XBOX Games Showcase this week. There, the company announced plenty of cool stuff, including a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, a special 25th anniversary XBOX Series X with a classic translucent green design (coming in November 2026), details about Gears of War: E-Day, Spyro: A Realm Beyond after nearly 20 years since the last release, a new Hellblade game from Ninja Theory, a new expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages, fresh details about State of Decay 3, and even a new entry in the Crazy Taxi series. • Microsoft Flight Simulator's City Update 15 enhances Midwest cities by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The third major city update of the year has landed for the original Microsoft Flight Simulator and the 2024 release. The latest drop is upgrading the visuals and regional accuracy of three metropolitan regions in the American states of Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The 15th city update is adding eight new areas of interest that have been enhanced with high-fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing in the mentioned regions. The free update highlights Chicago, Elgin, Cicero, and Arlington Heights in Illinois, as well as Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Duluth, Brooklyn Park, Woodbury, Lakeville, Plymouth, and Blaine in Minnesota. In Wisconsin, the development has also upgraded the lands and buildings of Milwaukee, Madison, and Racine. The update lands just as one of the world's largest enthusiast flight simulation conventions, FlightSimExpo, kicks off in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 14. The Flight Sim development team's 40-minute keynote at the event can be watched here. At the same time, Microsoft is bringing the 6-seat, single-engine, multi-use light civil airplane Piper M600 into the game as a part of its Expert Series 2 program. This premium plane can be purchased from the in-game marketplace for $24.99. City Update 15: The United States Midwest is now available in Microsoft Flight Simulator, as well as the newer Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, as an optional download. It can be accessed across Steam and the Microsoft Store for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox and PC Game Pass subscriptions. Xbox One, mobile, and PC players can also jump into the new content using Xbox Cloud Gaming if they have a Game Pass Ultimate membership.
