[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Oh man I have to see demos of how this is used.  Sword slashing and gun shooting by pointing the controller.  I did not see this coming at all.

Yah, sword slashing will be awesome

Plus he said it can slip inside a regular controller body

hmm, after reading the review's on IGN & Gamespot it doesn't seem that bad. Guess it will really be one of those things that you have to try out to really know. However, I wonder how the general public would react to such a controller like this?

And wow, IGN & Gamespot were in on this with Nintendo the whole time. :ninja:

I really can't see the general american public embracing something like this, but I really hope they do. Maybe if the price is right...

Also, it sounds like it may be VERY good for FPS games, as in good/better than a mouse

Yeah, I think they'll have a hard time trying to get the masses to buy into this. They better have some damn good marketing strategy.

They said the controller shape is not finalised.... so features are but the shape is not. My interpretation anyway.

I'm looking foward to trying it! My hands aren't enourmous like I imagine many Yankee hands are so they may have problems with it, where as I probably won't.

Now all it is time for is to see some Revolution games!

With Nintendo, usually people laugh and sneer until they try upon which they realize the genius. We won't know until we try. I think its good that at least one company is trying to come up with something new instead of "oooo look at the shiny graphics" but I guess that's all people wawnt nowadays. I hope it succeeds, but I have a feeling people will fear change too much to give it a shot.

"Nintendo also mentioned that the controller stick could be slipped inside other, more conventional controller shells, dance mats, bongos, or other peripherals." (From EGM)

Interesting concept. Being able to slip the "remote" into more conventional-looking controls and even more peripherals, while still remaining wireless...very cool.

To be honest, I was mildly shocked when I first saw the photo, but the more I read about it and look at it, the more I want one. Which is more than I can say about the PS3 and 360 setups. Kudos to Nintendo for having the extra-large nuts to bet their future on straying from the pack on conformity.

But how are you supposed to play when you have to switch your thumb from movement to action? Usually people do this at the same time (move with the analog stick and fire at the same time)

And why couldn't they just have had the motion sensor thing in a regular 2-handed controller design? This makes no sense to me.

It's so beautiful

This has so many crazy possibilities.

The only thing i'm slightly worried about is the battery. I know the wavebird has great battery life, but will that transmit to this controller?

By the way, when is revolution going to be released?

And, if revolution was only the codename, wouldn't have they released the real name of it by now?

You dont have to. You can move by moving the actual controller.

Dont be so quick to judge it... were only seeing the first preview of it. I totally agree that when you first look at it, it doesnt make any sense. But Im sure soon enough it will begin to show infinite possibilities.

As Nintendo have said themself. You have to try it to understand it. The main reason they was so carefull to show only the controller was because of reactions like this... (the post you quoted...).

I love the idea and can't wait trying this!
