[Definitive] Nintendo Wii Thread

Why does everyone care about specs? The controller is important; how many giga-quads of colour can be rammed down your throat or how many parsecs it can make the Kessel run in is not. The games just have to be good.

Exactly. And not showing any type of controller is a little bizarre. Either they have something extremely "revolutionary" lined up or they have no idea yet. They did say the Revolution was a prototype and not even the colors are for sure yet. So, basically, as far as next-gen consoles go, Nintendo revealed nothing.

Good or bad...I don't know :D

(Was it me or did Nintendo focus alot of angst and direct attacks at Sony  )

Joel: and that's why they sold me. Being able to play ALL of the original games from NES and SNES and (because I never had a gamecube) the current generation of games, I'm sold.

Earthbound + Mario 3 + Goldeneye + Super Mario World + Original Zeldas = SOLD!

But they didnt even show the controller. Hence

I've been saying this for a long time, gamers these days ARE NOT gamers at all.

Sad deluded Nintendo fans, ive been a gamer pretty much all my life and ive had every major console and handheld release (gb, nes, snes, n64, gc/gg, ms, md, saturn, dc) graphics dont make a game but they sure do help, id take an x360 game over a snes game anyday.

go save up $$$ for your xbox 360 live already

Good for them for not showing their controllers or whatever is going to make this system revolutionary.  Because if they did we would probably hear MS and Sony next week say "Hey, we have these brand new ideals for our consoles!"

Microsot doesnt have the time frame to do such because they are already into production. Sony might copy it but then it would be a sore thumb on the PS3 like fish out of water. You can just borrow one "revolutionary" idea and incorporate it in your console when you dont have the games to utilise it.

The downloadable 20+ years of content will sell that revolution like no others, but how exactly are they going to offer the controllers for all those old consoles? The 64 controller was rather unique, as is the gamecube one. Oh well... wait and see, I suppose.

wait... any of you think the wireless controller already for gamecube could work on it?

Oneill: as a current Xbox owner, I have to agree. Graphics do help. But it's like saying "Candles are good on cakes". I have had cakes without candles or even crappy looking ones. Sometimes it's not all about the candles but the cake deep down inside. Super Mario 3 was amazing and will always be. Same with Super Mario World.

I agree with you, i do actually prefer a lot of 1st party nintendo games to most of the tosh that big companies like EA churn out year after year, but Nintendo has consistently been the underacheiver every console launch and its getting tiring that they are sticking to their less is more approach, people look at the x360/ps3 and see amazing graphics compared to the poor old revolution and dont actually give it a look in which in turn makes more developers and publishers turn away from it.

you mean like everybody coping the water pack from Mario sunshine?:

face it people, everybody isn't looking to copy Nintendo these days. the only thing noteworthy they've done in this generation is the wavebird and nobody copied that. the next gen wirless controllers are just a natural evolution of the controller design. like people have said, graphics aren't everything but they sure as hell help.

basically Nintendo has a chance to create some serious thunder and they failed IMO. when Reggie revelaed the gameboy micro, I mean you could count on 1 hand the amount of people clapping. the damn thing is alreayd small enough, why make it even smaller? audio small=yes, video small= retarded. i admit the prospect of being able to play old games on the system is appealing, but let's be honest most of us and most gamers with a computer have all the games from the NES, SNES, and N64 era on emulators. why would they want to pay for those games again?

For some reason, I don't think what Sony showed us is going to be the final product. There's no way in hell they release that system with that controller.

In the end, Microsoft is releasing the 360 this year. They are ready, they had to show the final product in all it's glory. Sony and Nintendo still have at least another year. They showed and talked about what they want to do and how they hope to do it. Whether they will pull it off remains to be seen. I do know this, though: Sony showed no in-game footage of any PS3 games other than tech demos and Nintendo didn't even have the Revolution hooked up other than the power cord.
