A question, didn't know where to ask, so I might put it here, Arch Enemy has one guitar player or two, I hear two but see one lol. Also, was there a different singer before the possessed girl?

LOL You just asked that

and yes theres 2 guitarist.

Yes they had a different singer. A male infact. Lots of people are saying that AE sold out because of her, but, well, it added a differnt sound.

Hehe, I wouldn't say they sold out - but their ex-singer was 100x times better because his voice was quite unique. Angela has the typical melodic death shrieking vocals that every band seems to have these days. Whilst we're on the subject, their melodic riffs were much better back in the day too.

hey guys

ive just seen a band on Scuzz (UK Music TV) and i didnt catch the same or song title fully

what i caught was this:

Octavia - Lifeless *summut summut*

can anyone shed any light on this?

thankx

perhaps you meant: Octavia - Lifelines of Depths

I want to ask... what actually is metal? What defines metal? The mindless shouting (I hate this part)?

Are bands like Rammstein, System of A Down, Korn metal?

So because you have little appreciation for a specific vocal style, it's now "mindless?" Right.

If you're honestly interested in learning about it rather than poking little jabs at the genre, here you go.

Arch Enemy has two guitarists, the Amott brothers or something. Their original singer was replaced for 2001's Wages Of Sin. I think their new singer is pretty damn hot, got to see her live....and her vocals aren't bad....just kind of generic as mentioned. I haven't even heard their more recent albums but they have been going in a bad direction from what I've seen.

By the way, Gordian Knot is real good. Evergray bored the hell out of me when I saw them with Iced Earth though.

You guys hear about the new Cannibal Corpse album? If I remember correctly, it's going to be titled "Kill." Hahah. Going to be interesting to see how they try and top their last outing.

I dont consider shouting at the top of their voice a vocal style... you can shout a little, but not those ear deafening roars.

Well despite that, it is still a legit vocal style. It's one that isn't as universally accepted as others, but that's mainly because people can't seperate the idea of disliking a style and thinking something isn't a real style at all.

I don't like Operas style of singing, but I do understand that it is a style and it takes much work to master.

Go download some random songs by Cannibal Corpse. Try and sing like that. Yes, it may be some of the ugliest sounding vocals you've heard, but that doesn't mean they can't use that style for people who do like it. Point is, it takes hard work to master, and is probably one of the most difficult ways of singing for prolonged amounts of time.

I can easily see why someone wouldn't like this style of music (Death Metal), but saying that it's "just noise" or anything along those lines is pure ignorance.

You can find a lot of metal without growled or yelled vocals though. Some bands like this would be Nightwish, Symphony X, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater etc.

Thanks at all the answers, but something is still not clear for me, if they (Arch Enemy) have two guitarists, why the hell is only 1 in the video. (2 guitar players + bass player = 3 people, Nemesis video has only two...). And I'm sure I've seen a poster in Metal Hammer or something, only 4 people in the band. Hmmm maybe they dont have a permanent bass player?

Yeah well ok, yelling is not my thing.

lol...i used to feel the same way. when i was first getting into bands like lacuna coil and nightwish, i couldnt really stand the whole screaming thing for extented periods. but for some reason i liked the way that these did that whole "beauty and the beast" thing...so eventually I found more music that had that sort of vocal style to it. and after a whole bunch of female fronted bands (some with male "death" growls) I actually started to like the growling part and even the screaming, so i bought some trivium, opeth, and cradle of filth and that is where i am now.

I guess my hand was held through this whole process...it is almost like it creeped up on me too...haha.

but dont get me wrong...i still love the female vocals, i just like the male growls and screaming too...yay...more music to love.

the problem is, genocider, like the vast majority of people that dont like the "screaming and loud grunts" are only focusing on that aspect. to the untrained ear, all they hear IS the screaming. the rest of the band is just back up. thats exactly what separates good music from everything else.... when the lead singer, or screamer, blends into the band, you have good music. you dont focus on the singer or the screaming, you focus on the other band members and what theyre playing. i'll ask people, for example, "oh man, did you hear that awesome set part?" and theyre like "no, what are you talking about?" "did you hear that awesome guitar riff??" "no, i just hear noise" to this day, i'll still listen to a cd that ive had for years and find new stuff. all of a sudden a certain part will just pop out and surprise me, it's great.

get past the screaming and truely listen to the music. this is why i mainly only listen to hard stuff/metal. i also like other genres but the stuff i listen to actually challenges the listener, makes them think and decipher whats going on.

Linkin Park, Korn, Staind, Creed, Nickelback (vast majority of whats on the radio) ------ that stuff's unchallenging child's play.

i agree that the yelling and screaming can be a little muc

i personally only listen to heavy metal in schoo, cause when im in school im frustrated

but when im at home i like listening to ac/dc, bob dylan, the beatles, django reihnhart

yknow not stuff called: Deathamphetamine

I guess all of you are right, its all down to the listener.

But presently, I'm not prepared and cant listen to it. And your list here, I never liked any of them bands except for Korn. LP, Creed, Nickelback suck IMHO. Dunno bout Staind.

    • BS, I've yet to run into a typical pc user that uses it at all, let alone half the population.

    • The site is pretty sparse on features / tech specs. Can I plug it into a PC/hone/Switch via USB-C and use it as an external display? If so, what's the virtual resolution of the screen, the refresh rate, PPI of the image etc? Is the text crisp enough to use for coding at say 12pt? Is it good enough for playing dark games, like say Path of Exile 2? How about fast games like car racing games? Just how do they expect anyone to order this thing without giving out all this info?
