you can't use windows update but your computer can still download the updates for you and let you know when they are ready to install..good enough for me.

Does any one of our collective membership have any other suggestions on how to get either WUv6 or MicrosoftUpdatev6 to work correctly in IE7_Beta1...

I have tried all these methods:

Will This Solve IE7 Issues W/both Microsoft & WU v6

here for the guys with problems:

# Extract IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe with WinRAR (or anything that works) to a temporary directory.

# Open update\iecustom.dll in a hex editor.

# Navigate to hexadecimal offset 0x1034h(4148 decimal) and change 0F 95 to 0F 94.

# Save and execute update.exe.

# Enjoy.

ok, i did it on my own, you BS helpers,

people, go download hex workshop 4.2 (its free) and then open the iecustom.dll with the hex workshop 4.2

and go to "edit" and then "replace" and then type 0F95 and change it to 0F94 and save it

all done,

Even just tried a 'supposely fixed WinXP_IE7_En.exe, no success at all, as WUv6 just keeps scanning.......

Thanks... as I find it quite strange that some colleagues I have chatted with have had WUv6 work fine for them without having to try the above procedures...

I'm not sure... I was having the same problem accessing windows update and it is because the user agent string is not supported by wu. if we can modify the user agent string to make it seem like we are using ie6 then it should work just fine, but i cant seem to figure out how to modify it.

that trick there is if you are using ie7 on a "not so genuine" version of windows and are trying to access windows update.

Anybody notice this when theyre in full screen mode? The address bar and stuff hides and reappears when you move your mouse around the top of the screen. Maybe this is old, but I havent used IE in months so its new to me

that's new for IE 7 I just noticed that about 20 minutes ago. I don't usually view in full screen but I know IE 6 didn't do that

why ie7 standalone install have the phishing feature? But the one included in Windows Vista doesnt? But they are the same build, right?

Am I missing something?

I don't think they're the same build, on Vista the RSS icon is there by default but in XP you have to add it.

umm, i got the same problem, i guess that's how it suppose to be, no phishing in vista, :( i dunno. Ohh, anybody got IE7 to work w/ Yahoo Mail yet?

Not by default, but it was an option, just like it is in IE7.  Right click on the toolbar in fullscreen mode, and you'll see the Auto-Hide option.  It was there in IE6 too.

wow, did not know that. This just might make me switch back to IE from FF. Even though I like them both.

    • Since they open sourced the calculator in Win 10/11 it is much better and can do a lot, I love it.
    • That's just silly imo. The lengths that man goes to just to avoid W11 is just nuts. Very, very few home users would do that. I will say this though, he is committed. Btw, I note on askwoody that Woody Leonhard passed away March, 2025 aged 73. His site was one of my favorites back in the day. Belated yes but RIP Woody.
    • Because of the EU (a good thing) newer android devices been getting 5 years worth of security patches. Except some Motorola which found the loop hole, and offer ZERO updates. In addition, Google for years have been making where it can patch some stuff by updating the core Google Play Store itself.  As echoed earlier,  you take the security risk in to your own hand beyond supported.
