Do you tip pizza delivery people?

Recommended Posts

I feel the need to weigh in on this, I worked for Pizza Hut for four years. My senior year of high school I was a cook and a manager, after I graduated I became a driver because that's where the money is at. You should always tip your driver. You may think it's an easy job, but it's just the opposite. For anywhere from four to eight hours a day you have to put miles on your car and deal with aholes on the phone and at the door. You have to deal with people who can't drive, bad address and the ever present danger of being robbed. When you're the driver you're the face of the store. If you're late, even if it isn't your fault, you get yelled at. Drivers have to cut pizzas, answer phones and clean. They really make the store work. As far as pay drivers usually make anywhere from 5.15 to 6.50 per hour plus tips. But when you figgure in gas, that drops to just about working for tips. I had great nights, only driving 20 miles but making a hundred dollars, I had other nights where I drove a hundred miles and made 20 dollars. If you order pizza regularly tip your driver well, you'd be suprised but we remember you. You most likely wont get your pizza spit in, but you might not get the extra cheese and peppers or your soda might be warm or shook up. If you can afford to order a pizza, you can afford to give the guy who allowed you to be lazy and not cook more than a buck or two.

No, because most of the time my order is wrong, and they took over an hour to get it to me.  Plus...for some reason...they are always rude.  Just horrible.

I agree. It's the delivery time that detirmines whether the driver gets a tip or not, not the quality of the pizza. Now if the kitchen-staff were to receive a portion of the driver's tips, I'd start tipping on every order...

... and to be clear, the only place in town I order pizza from takes ~1hr to deliver although the joint is literally ~4km away

Here in Spain almost nobody tips. It's cultural, I think. In here, you only tip someone if you think he or she is doing more than you are paying for (very nice meal, good service, smiles...)

But on the other hand if the order is, for example, 19? you would pay with 20? and give away that 1? - same for pizza people, restaurants, etc.

I was in Ibiza/Spain last year with a couple of friends and a lot of the times we were unsure if we were suppoesd to tip or not. Didn't want to offend or anything and definitely noticed that there were people that didn't. The clubs in Ibiza are completely different though. Some of the bartenders were a little pushy about tips.

Ah the memories. I'm so looking forward to my next trip out there. I wish I was living out in Spain.

i generally dont for pizza but thats cos i usually only order pizza when i dont have any cash about cos i can stick it on my card, but in general for things like taxis/waitress'/waiters yeah, i always tip

i dont post much on neowin, but this hit me some how.

tip your driver. i was adding 100 miles a night on my car and that 100 miles eats at the value of a car. at that rate, you are doing an oil change a month. thats another $20. plus, things break, gas prices are high. then there is the chance of getting robbed, or getting hit by someone. i had at least one accident while delivering.

on a side note...if you too cheap to tip your driver....little caesars does $5.00 hot-n-ready pizzas all over the country. if you gonna be cheap, do it the right way, go get it yourself. (prices may very)

My history teacher is also a pizza delivery guy, from time to time we go down to his workplace and embarass him lol, all in good fun

That's sad man, if I had a teacher like that I'd be well kind. I'd actually do some work in his lessons, and although I'd like to tip him loads I'd give him fairly large tips because I'd feel so bad.

But we always tip the local guys, they deliver nice and quick, decent food, always warm, nice and polite, plus they're all from the local boyracing group anyway so the money goes straight onto their cars.

So yeah, my family always rounds up to the nearest five.

LOL but Ibiza is a completely different world! I wouldn't know what to do there, either. In most of Spain, no matter which club you go to, nobody will push you for tips - EVER.

Also, nobody will spit on your pizza if you don't tip here. In fact, some people have looked at me in a funny way when I've tipped them :p

I usually do and the amount depends on the size of the order.

There was always some usual guy who delivers to my house...eventually you start chatting and then he knows you by name when he rings the door bell.

The funny thing is when I would go to Boston Market Restaurant drive thru when I lived in the U.S. temporarily for a few years, some of the people on the drive thru coms would reconize my voice as soon as I began ordering they would say "do you want the usual Rob?"

Of course you tip the delivery person! I always tip $3-4. They drive the food all the way to your doorstep. The least you could do is give them a couple dollars for gasoline. Anyone that doesn't tip is a jerk. It's as simple as that. It's no different than tipping in a restaurant.

Drive-thru pizza? How long do you have to wait at the window?

I always tip $3-5 for pizza delivery. I've never even considered not tipping and I'm surprised how MANY people posted saying that they never tip. I think it's expected that you tip the delivery person, just like you should always tip a server at a restaurant.

Boston Market is just Rotisserie Chicken and mash potatoes, cream spinach, ham, etc...

just demonstrating how you develop a rapore with the staff of the food places you go to everyday.

I tip them like $2 even though I find it strange that the same pizza costs more when its delivered than if I pick it up even though delivery is apparently "free". Its as if they put in the tip in there so they get double tip! ******s.. :ninja:

    • This piece of ###### is probably one of the most hated apps that ever existed.
    • Microsoft is bringing a much-needed Recap app to Teams, here is a first look by Usama Jawad Microsoft Teams is heavily used in work and school environments, and perhaps one of its core but extremely useful features is the ability to record meetings. In past years, Microsoft has further improved upon this functionality by integrating AI, but you do need a Microsoft 365 Copilot license to leverage most, if not all, all of those capabilities. Now, the Redmond tech firm is making another significant enhancement in the area of Teams meeting recordings. Up until now, if you wanted to access Teams recordings, you had to arduously locate the meeting invite and navigate to the dedicated tab, or go to the cloud storage location such as a SharePoint site. This was a rather overwhelming activity, especially if you don't remember the name of the meeting or the meeting occurred quite a while ago. Microsoft is now attempting to solve this problem through a dedicated Recap app that consolidates all your recordings. This centralized experience will allow users to find all recordings from the past 30 days and also offer access to other related services such as transcripts and AI-powered summaries. Customers will have the option to search for recordings, filter them, and review multiple meetings by generating AI-powered podcast-style recaps. The Recap app will list all available recordings in both thumbnail and list views. The former is shown below: And here is how Teams users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license can select multiple recordings to generate a podcast-style audio recap: Microsoft has emphasized that the Recap app is pre-installed in Teams but it will not be pinned by default. Users will able to navigate to the Teams app store from the left rail, and pin it from the apps section. It will be enabled by default for all users once it becomes available. It's worth noting that while Teams recordings and transcripts can be accessed by all users governed by existing permissions, AI-powered features like intelligent summaries, audio recaps, and video recaps will require a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. The Recap app will be generally available to Teams users on Windows, Mac, and the web by the end of next month, with mobile support coming soon.
