Do you tip pizza delivery people?

In here if it's not delivered within 40 minutes of your call, you get the Pizza for free.

Yeah, I've heard of places like that. Around where I live, they don't have that policy. I stopped getting from the pizza shops mostly, anyway, because they charge outrageous prices. Like everything else, they engage in price-gouging and collaboration. The prices are now $1.85 for a slice of pizza and at least $13 for a pie. The prices on everything else in the store is also sky-high.

Now, I usually get frozen pizza, because it's healthier and it's a better buy.

Where do you live?

In the US minimum wage is $5.15 (higher in some states) and very often a waitress/waiter gets paid more then the pizza delivery guy.

Waiters/waitresses & pizza delivery guys are very equal.

The pizza delivery cars most of the time use their transportation method (car) which costs gas, maintenance and such.

wow....

its obvious you've never been a waiter/waitress....

in pretty much all restaurants in this country the waiters/waitress get paid well under minimum wage....(ie: minimum in TX is like $2.30 i think)

this is done because they are expected to make enough money off tips to counteract not making the minimum wage....

hence the reason they really do need tips....its not just that they like the extra money...they need tips because that's their main sourse of income....

and pizza delievery guys do get paid at least minimum wage if not more...

do i still tip them...yes....do they "need" it...no.....but waiters/waitresses do need tips as they are legally paid well under minimum wage....and are expected to make the rest of their income in tips....

Well I'm in the UK and I always tip the guy ?1, everyone I know also tips, you must be really tight:huh::

The only reason I tip is because I don't want to find spit in my food the next time I order from the same place :

I hate biting, but I will. I said I wold let the guy keep 1-2 quid, but you "always" tip the guy 1. So who's the bigger tipper.....?

I am no way tight. I _gave_ saxondale a ?50 videocard. I'm no way tight, I give to charity, homeless, buskers etc. I'm a subscriber, and I've given ad-hoc donations to Marcel also.

I just have never considered delivery guys to be doing anything _extra_ than what they are paid for.

Besides, you said the "only" reason you tip is because you don't want spit in your food. So how is that being generous? That's a completely selfish reason to tip someone.

winmaclin, I rarely flame, bite or troll, and I didn't think you'd be one to personally attack someone (you called me tight).

anyway, I know we both know we're good guys, so we'll leave it there.

have a good evening.

I never tip drivers...

With that said.. I'm a delivery driver for Boston Market (its a chicken place) and I get upset when I don't get tipped  But we have company delivery vehicles so I don't have to waste my own gas.

I don't tip for deliveries, they are getting paid so why should I give them more? I get paid no more when a job is done on time or not. i make sure they are done on time, but I do not get paid any extra for doing so.

When I am in US, I tip every 2 rounds when I am drinking - but this is only because it is more expected in US (and if you don't, you may be ignored)

Well when I order pizza it's because I'm with ma friends, so I almost never got to give the money to the guy, but someone else. I just let 'em keep the change, but I feel sorry for not giving a good tip :(

Anyway I'm sure they already make good money, so...

And in telepizza here if you retrieve the pizza yourself at the store it's cheaper.

I was wondering if any of you tip the pizza delivery guy/lady? If so, how much do you normally tip?

I tip , $3 - $5. I think of it as , They are trying to survive just like we are. Give a little something. They don't make that much.

They do not make good money. The rely on their tips to boost the total pay.

most delivery people dont get paid anything extra, and count on the tips for the increasing gas prices and just as part of their pay. not to mention pizza places keep you in track on a computer data base, and i think we would all like to keep getting clean food. dont tip the pizza boy, and things can get nasty. plus, i tip them becuase i know i wouldnt have driven to get the pizza, so they are providing a luxury, not having to get up off ur ass to eat.

I actually work at a local pizza place where I live, and it pretty suprising to hear what kinds of tips our drivers are getting. First off, we are a locally based place...not a franchise, so I dont know if that accounts for some of the high numbers. Usually on average each driver gets $4 to $5 per delivery. But on some night there are people that give $7-$10 per....and the average order is around $20.

I personally have very little experience in that position, although I have taken a handful or so over the past months. I think the highest tip I recieved was $7...and everything else was around $4.

I am a delivery driver for a chinese restaurant and the $2 I make per delivery DOES NOT cover my costs of driving all the way to the further suburbs that we deliver to.

In Australia we don't have a real tipping system like in the US. Instead we have a 'keep the change' thing for delivery guys. If I didn't get to 'keep the change' at all I'd overall make a loss on my salary, so why should I even bother doing deliveries then?

I find that usually people with nice cars or houses(i.e. wealthier) are LESS likely to tip me. And asians NEVER tip at all, even for little petty change they usually ask for the change. I'm part asian and I know its a mentality for most asians to have the mentality of "why should I give extra for something I've already paid for". But since working as a delivery guy I know that I lose salary when people don't tip.

Some of my regular big tippers are people like a bus driver and an old lady pensioner. So really being rich or not isn't an excuse not to tip a bit. And for the love of God, if you live far away from the place you are ordering from, give the delivery guy a tip!!! Sometimes I'll drive right out to our delivery boundary, and usually these people never tip.
