Ordered! 12" 100gb PB....!

Recommended Posts

Well, I kind of think you should just go with 12" iBook, because they've been recently updated (very recently...) and you should make it BTO, with the stock amount of 512MB ram that will suit you for a while, until you decide to max it out to 1.5GB and forget about ram.

Then, stick/live with the combo drive, but it sounds like you REALLY want the SD. As far as the HD goes, get the 80GB in the iBook because 100 is just too much of a premium. Unless you can afford it.

I would go with the 12" PB, 100GB etc but judging by your troubles, I'd just forget it and get a 12" iBook, 80GB (or 100 but 80 is enough for me), then chuck 1GB in the spare and you don't have to worry about the extra 256MB. Combo drive might be annoying but how often do you burn DVDs.

well guys, i discussed it again with my mum (who is temporarily paying for it til after uni) and she said how often am i gonna replace this?! she said rather get *exactly* what i want in it now, instead of paying say ?900 for an iBook now only to then have to buy a PB for another ?1000 later on. i know ppl seem to say it is quite easy to sell your macs, but i couldnt be faffed with the hassle i think.

so......sorry to keep flitting my mind around! but now, i just think i should just get the 12" PB with the 100gb and then max out the RAM, b/c after all, this is to last me a longgggggggg time lol, so when u spread the cost over a while.....it doesn't look so bad i guess.

will update when i get back from france and let u know if i (again) order the PB!!

cheers everyone.xx

(and btw, i wouldnt be so obsessed with the superdrive but we just got a DVD camcorder and our home PC is pretty crap, windows 98se (ok.....VERY crap) and has no dvd writer and can't really support one without a lot of upgrades, and even my sisters new laptop came with a dvd writer but there isn't enough memory to do it really.)

I just got my brother's 12" iBook today, exactly TWO weeks after announcement since it was BTO. It's charging right now. Very very nice.

oh cool you must be chuffed!!! if we hadnt of bought the dvd camcorder already, i would've probably bought the 12" iBook. but nevermind!!

enjoy!!!!!

Old Chinese proverb:

Buy expensive, cry once.

That's what I did when I got my 12" PowerBook and I absolutely love it. I didn't get the iBook because I sometimes use dual monitors and the PowerBook has mini-DVI out. Also, I believe it's slimmer (I really don't know how they could fit anything else in there).

Oh and the 14" iBook has the same resolution, only the physical pixels are larger which means it isn't as crisp and clear as the 12" screen.

I think you'll be very happy with the 12" PowerBook as it's a really mobile computer and can be stored away easily at university where space is a premium (if you are living on campus).

returning home from france i find three ominous looking boxes....from apple...... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

excellent, the woman on the phone lied, and did in fact send me the order that she told me she cancelled. what remains to be seen, tomorrow, is if they refunded me or not for it. (free apple.......?? no i think it is not possible!!) but it means i have to send it back to them, wait for refund possibly, before ordering new one and waiting two wks. and if they refuse to give me a full refund, i shall be furious, because of the problems with the iPod being personalised etc etc, but as she said it is their problem not mine and i shouldnt have to pay for it!!

will keep u guys updated soon (probably tomorrow when i ring them and SCREAM!!!)

actually i'm being a drama queen (again) it really isn't that bad at all... but still.

ps for whoever asked, i only flicked through briefly and i forget, sorry, the dvd corder is a sony handycam DVD-201E i think!

Hi Laura,

One thing I will say, purchase a decent spray cleaner.. iClear as an example!!

Ever since Jaguar shipped I now have 4 Macs.... Recently picked up an a 12" BTO iBook.. which goes everywhere with me...

I would also say when funds allow, pick up a BlueTooth mouse..

Enjoy, please share your experiences!

well........

a little update on the PB saga. i rang apple and said, well, why were my things delivered? "oh...well she couldnt stop the delivery after all......" i'm sorry, i didn't realise you idiots were not trained to use email and that would explain why i did not receive any form of notification that they were unable to stop the delivery!!

now they say, is it TT or someone? the collection ppl, they'll ring me yesterday or today (still waiting, they have 7 hrs to ring me before my bomb officially blows!) and then i have to wait for the refund to be sorted which might be some day next week. i can't reorder til the money is back in, so it will be at least 3 wks til i get the PB, and that's if things go quickly.

bearing in mind, i move to uni 17/18th and start on the 19th - i.e, quite desperate for this PB now!

oh well...... oh but can i say, isnt it infuriating when u know the parcel sat there in your house contains an iPod and a PB which has only one thing wrong with it that means you can't even touch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll give it to you dudette, regardless of me wanting the superdrive I would have ripped the damn shreads off the boxes, easily!

oh i reaaaaaaaaally want to but i don't want to be stuck with having to keep this thing!!

i rang apple on thursday, said someone would ring that day or the next about collecting it.......they didnt and now it's the weekend, so if they don't ring monday then i am gonna be upset b/c it will make everything take even longer - i think they don't process the refund til they have the goods?

hmmmmm!!!!

Just imagine how stupid they would be to refund you without recieving their goods!

This must have been an experiece, I have countless times how great Apple tech is, but the problems your having are worth noting!

586406564

i suppose in all fairness apple made only two mistakes - not adding the superdrive, then not contacting me to tell me they hadnt been able to stop the delivery. i guess it is the collection company now that i have to wait for.

well yes, and how stupid are we to pay for our goods before we receive them?? it is not fair, it should work both ways lol....i wish!

haha kool, bit offtopic but since your the topic starter, doesn't matter - Which course you doing and what uni?

Just going into UWE for Software Engineering, going to be taking in my Apple into a windows environment, should be good :)

urrr is that an american one?! i am in the uk though, going to a tiiiiiiiiny place for uni called york. well ok it's not that small but, well, it is an ok size i guess!! i like small places, london - eurgh!!

i have been sat looking at my laptop tonight.......in its box...............

i WANT it now!!! like i said it isnt fair, they took money before i had the PB so i can take a PB before they have the money, it is only fair and then we have each had a turn!!!!!!

screw them, open it, have fun :)

586408060

lol!!!

oooooooooh so unbelievably tempting..... it is sat there, crying, why won't anybody open me? doesn't anybody want me? doesn't anybody love me.......?

it's killing me here lol!!!

thetechroom - well you can tell how clued up i am as to uni's in england!! i am going to the York St John as opposed to the main uni, doing a teaching degree after my gap year of voluntary teaching in s.a.
