This is so pathetic. Now we are going to change everything. I can see it now where 'In elmo we trust' on the dollar bill.

Read this article. Jesse Ventura isn't running again as governor and then he signs this stupid proclamation since he has nothing to lose.

http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/3595354.htm

Gov. Jesse Ventura's proclamation of the Fourth of July as "Indivisible Day" in Minnesota, an order sought by an atheist group, has upset the secretary of state and others who see it as a slap at religion.

There you go folks. Tell me what you think.

Religion deserves to be slapped. It has caused more pain and suffering on this planet than any disease or war ever could.

People need to stop trying to force their religion on those of us who prefer to have our own beliefs. The Catholic Church executed those who did not believe what they were supposed to in the Middle Ages. They went on Crusades to the middle east to "convert" people and those who didn't convert were executed or put under siege and starved to death. Too many people died that way. Now we have Islamic extremists doing what they can to make the world believe in THEIR god and way of thinking and living and they do it by terrorism.

I've had people tell me what my life would be like if I didn't accept god and jesus and all that sh*t. Ya know what? My life is just fine the way it is without that trash. I have my ups and downs but I know that the only way I can get through it is to believe in myself and my abilities.

I always have to laugh when somneone says that god will help them get a job or a car or go to the bathroom, or when they say it was "god's will" if something bad happens. RIGHT. If the people who believe that crap would only take responsibility for what they do and what happens to them, they wouldn't need god because they are relying on themselves instead.

OMG! .. err OMC .. Oh my Creator or sumthing :)

This text is awesome! Just the way I think about it! And so damn true! This text has bring hope to me that there is intelligence in usa after all :)

Of all the people on Neowin I have the unique distinction of not only being a resident of the State of Minnesota, where Mr. Ventura is Governor, but also being a resident of the City of Brooklyn Park where Mr. Ventura was Mayor. I can carry that distinction even further because I am employed by the City of Brooklyn Park as well and have met Mr. Ventura on numerous occasions.

Having qualified myself by first hand knowledge of Mr. Ventura I can say without reservation that he is a hypocrite.

Mr. Ventura is an opportunistic individual who has used his office for personal financial gain. He has damaged the dignity of the office of Governor. His name isn't even Jesse Ventura, it's Jim Janos and he grew up in South Minneapolis yet claimed to be from California for the benefit of his "Pro" wrestling career. He claims that he was a Navy SEAL, but there is little evidence to verify that. he claims to have served in Vietnam, again with little evidence to back up his claim. As a Mayor, I once saw him ask a citizen to "step outside" when the citizen disagreed with Mr. Ventura's position. He was a bully.

I have seen him take credit for lowering the crime rate in our City, when his only contribution was having his picture taken for the magazine cover. He completely failed to acknowledge the efforts of the Citizens groups and Police Officers who worked hard to change the trends in our City.

When Mr. Ventura was elected, he made promises to the people of Minnesota . . . promises he later broke again and again. He traveled the world under the guise of State business but accomplished little. He took office with huge supluses and our State is now struggling to make up the deficit. He was elected by young voters mostly college students who flocked to the polls in record numbers to vote for Jesse, only to find their tuitions raised and their athletic programs cut. He cut aid to local education systems so drastically that many were forced to cut programs and close schools.

He has managed to alienate almost every group that put him in the Governor's office. He did little to find middle ground with the legislative branch of government . . . it was his way or no way. His son held parties in the publicly owned Governor's mansion and the staff had to clean up vomit and chase sleeping drunks, many under legal age, out of the public areas of the mansion so that primary school children could take their tours. He declared one day in January to be "Rolling Stones Day" so he could attend a concert in an official capacity when the Attorney General informed him that it was illegal for him to accept free tickets. Bear in mind this man is a millionaire.

He is a liar. He is a fraud. He is nothing more than a face and a personna. He is a Politician in the worst sense of the word. As far as I am concerned, he can take his indivisible day and stick it where the sun doesn't shine. November will not come soon enough for me so we can take our leave of him.

I must say though, his wife is one of the kindest most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

So stop trying to bypass that fact by forcing your religion into everyone elses desicions, especially when they religion wasn't part of them in the first place!

I'm going to respectfully disagree here, hehe. I'm don't subscribe to any religion myself (not anymore, for some of the very reasons you've stated), but I'd like to think myself as a spiritual person.

Why you are very right about how bloody annoying it is when people try to cram religion down your throat, not all people are like that. I have a fair few christian friends, and why some are pretty nutty, a few others are really really cool. They believe in christianty but without the fundamentalism involved (such as the "It's god's will!" BS), they happily discuss with people about their religion but don't treat the rest of the non-christian world as flaming heretics. I'd like to say that most people who belong to a religion and nice and reasonable, but I really have nothing to back that up, all I know is not ALL of them are close-minded crackpots. And when I was chrisitan, I definately wasn't like that, I detested that behaviour.

Also, with your reference to the middle ages, I don't really think that's fair. The christians of today aren't responsible for what the other middle ages nutters did. It's sort of like blaming all the germans for the behaviour of the Nazi party, y'know?

Anyway, that's just my two cents!

EDIT: I have to agree with you about one thing, religion, or at least key religious representatives deserves a slap for some of the BS being pumped out their to the public, and the wrongful acts that have been done. In Australia ATM, the catholic church is under fire as it's been revealed that a priest (or two) have molested some poor children, although it's being denied. Sick sick people.

Uhh...do you know which side you are on??? You just expressed a quite liberal slant in your opinion, but in it you attacked liberals at the same time???....You are also defending Jesse Ventura, and you guessed it... he is a liberal. Maybe you should take a political quiz so you better understand which side you are on.

Political Quiz

I have to agree with aem4162! And happy "Indivisible Day" everyone. At first glance I thought it said "Invisible" which brought to mind the "IPU" which would of been better :)

All should bow to the IPU, or she will smite you with her Hooves :)

I can not believe what some people are saying. I never post topics on Neowin, but I am now. First of all, I would NEVER FORCE my "religion" on ANYONE. But you all are honestly trying to sit there and say that there is NO god?! So basically you are saying that you were put here on this earth just to live and die and that is it? That your life has absolutely no meaning whatsoever? We just live to die, and... The End. That's it, and there is no more anything?

Just something to think about.

Goodbye.

My life has meaning. I am here to enjoy myself and i do not need to seek worship in any god or religion to be satisfied in life. But yes, essentially we are born, we live and we die. There is no afterlife. We only get one chance on this earth and is all the more reason to make the most of it.

Thanks

We aren't chimps, of course we've thought about religion, and most of us are old enough to make our own conclusions about religion. And like what Keldyn said, absense in religion in life doesn't make it meaningless, that's an insult.

Some of us believe that. Some of us don't. Personally, there's got to be something more to life than simply biological existence, but I'm not going to try to force that upon someone else.

Believe what you wish, but keep it to yourself and don't try to force it on others :) :)

Ok Mr. IgwanaRob. I don't think its a slap at religion and I am not a liberal either. But the fact remains is that I could have easily sent in a proclamation wanting my agenda to be fowarded. However, I have neither an agenda or a goal at destroying this wonderful country I live in like this athiest group wanted to do.

Its people like you sir that want to destroy our country and tear down any decency it STILL has. This athiest guy out in California that is representing her daughter is an example. His daughter is actually a Christian because her mother is Christian and the Father even admits that she said the Pledge voluntarily. Therefore, he has an agenda driven ideology just like you who want to tear down our country so you liberal freaks can take it over. But I can tell you this you won't succeed.

Here is the article on the Athiest Father controversy.

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article....RTICLE_ID=28160

The ironic revelation that the child and her mother are Christians who attend the Calvary Chapel in their home town of Elk Grove, Calif., was announced by Pastor Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, Calif., on his radio program Sunday night, and first reported by CPI News, a newssite run by homeschoolers. According to CPI News, the mother and daughter pleaded with the father not to file the case.

Sacramento atheist activist Michael Newdow mounted the now-infamous legal challenge against Congress for inserting the phrase "under God" in the Pledge in 1954, and against the Elk Grove Unified School District for its policy to have teachers lead students in reciting the Pledge in class. Newdow filed the case on behalf of his daughter, whom he told the Associated Press he is raising as an atheist.

"It's my parental right to keep the government off my child," AP quoted Newdow as saying.

But as Fox News reported, Newdow admitted that his 8-year-old daughter voluntarily says the pledge along with her classmates.

So you see that this guy, unlike yourself IgwanaRob, want to impose your beliefs on us. This guy is on a rampage just like what Jesse Ventura has done with our Independence Day (a.k.a Indivisble Day now) because they have nothing to loose. This country wouldn't exist and you wouldn't of existed either if it weren't for our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, etc.

Now you say that Jesse Ventura is a True American. You sir are wrong. Independence day should remain Independence Day but this bad ass wrestling type can do anything he wants because he has the power to do so.

Also, I do freely admit that people that represent the Christian Faith at the top like Pat Robertson should be exiled. The reason being he is doing the same thing that Michael Newdow and Jesse Ventura are trying to do which is imposing beliefs on others. I don't condone Pat Robertson's ideology at all and he doesn't represent me when he speaks against non-believers. You have the CHOICE to believe what you want to believe. Thats up to you and only you.

Exactly (sort of). Thank you for semi backing me up. It is like some people are afraid to speak up how they feel. Every one else has stated their OPINION and that is all I am doing as well. I even stated in my original message that I am not forcing my beliefs on anyone. I simply stated that it was something to THINK about. If you chose to, that's fine, if you do not, that is fine as well. I simply stated my opinion on here just as everyone else has. I do not care if I get flamed to death. Everyone is entitled to speak their mind. THAT is what you call FREE SPEECH.

Comments are welcome. Express how you feel if you see it necessary. Also, I will not be commentng on future posts.

Goodbye.

No. I wasn't "put here". I was created from my parents egg and sperm. If you really want to boil right down to it, my purpose is to procreate.
That your life has absolutely no meaning whatsoever?

my life has lots of meaning without believing in a god. its insulting to think that you're implying otherwise.

We just live to die, and... The End. That's it, and there is no more anything?

um..yep? but hey...if you want to believe otherwise, thats your business. whatever makes you sleep better at night.

    • I actually got to use one of those so called "backup codes" once. It was for a customer, I choose the backup code option, and by the grace of god, they actually hade them printed out. Imagine my surprise, when after using the backup code, Google then told use we had to enter a code they just sent to the gmail address we currently did not have access to. I was not amused, Google backup codes should be the end all get out of jail free card, because you had to have access to the account to even get them.
    • On the topic of being locked out of a service. Recently two different friends of mine got locked out of their Google accounts. Both were hack attempts and one of them is waiting 30 days before he can get back in. He had backup codes and MFA but not a passkey. It was a browser token hack. Anyhow he has to wait 30 days for the dispute or whatever to end. The other person only had a password and is screwed losing all of the email, docs and years of photos. Google won’t help her at all. Her fault because she had no backup/recovery setup. Enable passkeys if possible. Also do NOT use browser based password managers. If using a cloud service make sure it is one you can fully sync to one of your devices so you can back it up. Like a PC or Mac with some backup drive plugged into it. Google is the worst to use IMHO. You can’t sync your photos at all. You have to use the “Take Out” service which is manual and takes days. That service strips the meta data from your photos. Also Google Docs synced to a device are useless without a Google accounts. MS Office/Libre Office is not going to open a link to a Google doc to a dead account.
    • Why you need to take back control of your synced passwords and how to go about doing that by Paul Hill Credit: Pixabay Last month, when Google decided to introduce daily and weekly caps for Gemini, it reignited an anxiety of mine, that you can’t really depend on service providers to maintain features forever, and it got me looking into free software (as in freedom) in other areas too. One app I quickly came across was KeePassXC on desktop and KeePassDX on Android as an alternative to password manager lock-in within the Chrome or Firefox ecosystems. I personally like to switch around with browsers, and using either password manager is inconvenient, so something like KeePassXC was interesting to me. The main issue with it now is syncing; I was not sure how to do that. After a bit of research, I came across Syncthing, a tool I was vaguely familiar with but had never used because it seemed complicated. However, I was completely wrong, and honestly, I think everyone should use it if they use multiple devices. It essentially lets you share folders peer to peer across all of your devices, no cloud services that you don’t control necessary! And it was fairly simple to set up, if not a bit clunky. Since setting it up, I’ve also started using Syncthing to back up other apps too, so don’t think it’s limited to just saving password databases. You can use it for pretty much anything you use Dropbox or Google Drive for. Before continuing to talk about those apps a bit more, let’s walk back a bit and talk about browser sync. Ever since the late 2000s and early 2010s, really, since we have been using smartphones, browser sync has been a necessity of life. I don’t know about you, but I have hundreds of passwords saved. For the most part, they’re all unique, so I don’t remember them and rely on software to manage them for me. Until recently, I’ve relied on password managers in Chrome and Firefox, but what I always found annoying was that it can be hard to transfer them between browsers. Sure, on Windows it is simple enough, but on Linux, exporting bookmarks has been temperamental. It works OK nowadays, but not too long ago, Chrome required you to enable exporting passwords in chrome://flags. The situation is even worse on mobile; there is no exporting or importing of passwords of any kind. You literally have to do it on a desktop, which is incredibly annoying in our mobile-first world. Sync also lets us take out bookmarks, history, tabs, and autofill data easily. To enable sync, it’s just a matter of signing into the browser once, and it handles the rest. It’s nice and easy. Obviously, all this has some issues, including those I’ve outlined above about it being hard to transfer data between browsers, but also things such as account suspension, lost account passwords, and other lock-in mechanisms, such as passkeys, being tied to a specific browser. On a sidenote, I have just removed all of my passkeys because they can make it harder to move browsers. I think the biggest threat to your synced passwords, especially if doing this with Google, is having your account suspended. I don’t ever expect mine to be suspended, but you do hear horror stories on Reddit where people lose access to their Google accounts. Imagine if you have hundreds of passwords, then suddenly lose access to them because Google froze your account, what would you do? So yes, it can be nice to use these syncing services for their convenience, but they also have risks. You may have seen me going on about free software quite a bit in my editorials. It’s essentially a concept championed by the Free Software Foundation. It’s software under particular licenses that grant you four freedoms: run the program for any purpose (0), study and change the source code (1), redistribute copies to others (2), and the freedom to distribute modified copies to others (3). For example, if there is an app I use and one day it gets abandoned by the developer, I can keep running it or even clone the software and continue developing it. Look at the myriad of cool services Google has run over the years before killing them. You can’t take the source code for those because they are proprietary, for the most part. Both KeePassXC and Syncthing are free software, so I get the freedoms listed above. In my use case where I’m syncing a database full of my passwords, I also get proper ownership over my data, there is no losing access to the database due to a frozen account, I can access the code of the tools I’m using, and I can get support from real people online if I run into issues, rather than having to consult a vague help page from an opaque company. With the KeePassXC password manager, you create a .kdbx file, which is what will be synced between devices. KeePassXC has cross-platform apps and also has browser extensions so that the browser can fetch passwords from the database once it is unlocked. Meanwhile, Syncthing is a peer-to-peer file sync tool where you can select folders to sync between your devices. Just pop files in the folders you choose, and then they will be available across your other devices whenever they come online. Syncthing is resilient as it works over both LAN and the internet and only ever sends content between your devices, never to a third-party server somewhere else. By combining these two pieces of software, you can essentially replicate the browser sync functionality. I have had a weird, conflicting issue where a new file is appearing, but it doesn’t seem to be impacting my main password database, which is updating between devices just fine. If you want to get a setup similar to what I have, you will need to go here to download KeePassXC for your computer. Once you have that, you will need to download your passwords from your web browser to a CSV file. In Chrome, you can type chrome://password-manager/settings into the URL bar, and you should see an option to download your passwords under Export Passwords. This will give you the CSV file you need for importing into KeePassXC. If you use a different browser, just use a search engine and type “browser-name export passwords” and muddle along. In KeePassXC, you’ll want to press Import File from the home screen, select the CSV file, and create a new database from it. On one of the screens of the wizard, there will be a Title field with a drop-down selected to none. Change this to Title and continue. You’ll select a name for the database, the encryption level (the defaults are fine), and then you will pick a password. I would choose four unrelated words that are easy for you to remember, as you’ll be typing them fairly often to access your passwords. When you have all your passwords in your new database, you will want to set up the browser extension so that your browser can fetch passwords from KeePassXC. Rather than explain how to do that here, refer to KeePassXC’s guide on how to set it up properly. Once you’ve got that set up, you want to install KeePassDX on Android. You can grab it on the F-Droid store and the Google Play Store. For iPhone users, there are other .kdbx-supporting apps, but I haven’t tried any of them, so have a look around and use what suits you. Once you have that done, you will want to install Syncthing on your computer and find a third-party app for your mobile device. On Android, I use an app called BasicSync; there are also options for iOS, but again, I’ve not tried these. Once you’ve got SyncThing, you’ll want to set it up and connect all of your devices together and share a folder between your gadgets. PCWorld has a good tutorial on setting up a synchronized file between your devices using SyncThing. Once you’ve set it up, congrats, you’ll never have to touch that stuff again except for adding or removing devices. I’ll be honest, I didn’t particularly like setting up Syncthing. It didn’t take me a massive amount of time, but I think I had to check online because I found it a bit confusing. That said, I’ve had it running for several weeks now and never need to touch the Syncthing settings, so that’s very nice. I also mentioned a conflicting file. I’m not sure why this is appearing, but the main .kdbx file seems to be updating and syncing just fine. What’s nice is that both KeePassXC and Syncthing are free software, so they won’t just vanish one day; you can take the code and fork the project or use a range of alternative implementations that others have made. It’s also nice that it works over LAN, so even if your ISP is having problems, your passwords will still sync. One area where you will want to be a bit more careful with this setup is if you only have one device. I am OK because I have a computer and two phones, all synced up. If you just have one device, you will probably want to store a backup of your .kdbx file somewhere else. Obviously, you’ll also want to remember your password really well, too. If you get locked out, it's game over. Overall, if you want to take back control of your computing from big tech, taking control of your passwords is an important part of this. You don’t need to immediately clear out your browser’s password manager; try running KeePassXC and the password manager concurrently for a while to see if you run into any problems. If you do try this out, let us know some other creative ways to use Syncthing. I haven’t really come up with a solution about what to do with my bookmarks, for example.
    • If the price was a dollar, someone would complain "Why isn't it free?" If it was free, someone would complain they weren't being paid to play it.
