Presenting the new Neowin Logo

Recommended Posts

I dont think I would say its amateurish but I do agree that it does look like a simple photoshop of the original. I wouldnt really call it "new"

Actually, to be more exact... I took the shape of the original, and the colors (we do have a known branding to think about). The psd is actually about 6 layers, and this was the 5th logo made for consideration (I stopped because this was loved by everyone who is in the know). Anyways, it looks very nice on the current mockup of the next Neowin.... since you haven't seen it in place, it's like looking at a plain diamond before it goes on the ring. :)

I must be frank... it looks . I like the form, but the effects are like a simple bevel/emboss Photoshop job. Please don't take this as offense, but as a critique for improvement  :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I hope runs along the same lines as this concept which was posted ages ago!

If it doesn't look like that i will make my own version of the Neowin homepage on my laptop and source the news and forum topics from here and have my own personal 'portal'.

Those logos look nice, but as I am using the green theme myself, I'm alittle bit worried (although I know the designs aren't finished) about the brightness of the green logo - will the whole theme be as bright?

I'd love a more pale, olive shade of green, but that's just my preference. :)

Still - looking forward to the new themes! :) (I might actually change to the grey one.)

? Artifex ?

I just snagged a color sample for the green, it (and some of the other colors, like red and violet) might be altered some depending on how it looks... I did consider a more olive color, will have to discuss this with da bosses.;);)

I personally think it's WAY to filter based. You need to bring it down, keep it minimal, work out the shape better. I think it's a good alternative to the rounded corner style, but ... really, bring down those filters, it makes it look FAR to amatuer.

keep it up!

At first glance, it does appear to be a simple combination of filters, but if you take a harder look at it, you will realize there's more going on. I would challenge anyone to recreate the effects using solely filters. There are subtle shading effects that add dimension and smoothness that were clearly not created with a filter.

My vote: nice job! It will no doubt look great in the finished design.

So, if you don't like it that makes you a n00b? Interesting concept. Screwed up, but interesting!

No, if you look at all the people who are complaining, the vast majority are people new to the board that probably don't know or respect the work people like Flish do around here.

    • Can confirm, I've built stuff for others and no complaints using their products.
    • Yes I agree, it's annoying. You can now miss tabs unless you point low enough.
