Presenting the new Neowin Logo

Recommended Posts

Please don't take an offense to this...

But what is wrong with the current one? It is basically the current logo with a basic bevel on it, which does not fit imo. Why not just cleanup the current logo instead of doing a new one?

Strikes me as that as well. This is the first I've seen of it and it seems like the shape has just been recreated and a little too much of the classic bevel/emboss property in PS (not that I'm saying that was used). I just wonder what it'd look like if it was a bit more subtle and smooth. I don't get the whole out of focus thing either, a larger size for show shouldn't cause that if it was made large enough :/

i was thinking the same. it seems like the bevel and emboss filter was overdone in here. IMO looks...oldschool.

but hey who am i to judge, its what the admins like that matters i suppose.

Ack, I'm one of the few who aren't keen on the new logo!

Oh well, as long as it pleases the rest of the community! (Y)

Yeah, We seem to be in the minority. But when I see strong bevels I just thing of AOL homepages, "LOLZ" and photoshop tutorials. Stuff like this comes to mind.

lmao... would less/smoother bevel make you happier (this is a design that wasn't used)?

Anyway, let's put it all this way. I showed a lot of different logos to Steve, and this is the one he really likes (the current one, not the one I attached). When put in the design, it looks very nice... ;)

Just messing around, maybe keep the original look, just make it not look so outdated (gradient wise.)

I like this one a lot. :) The extra stripe is (Y)

By the way, is the Neowin logo supposed to be reminiscent of the NURV logo from Antitrust?

Oh yeah, I like Timan's a LOT more. The first one though. I don't really like the stripe in the middle, no reason for it really. The first one you did is damn sexy Timan. I'd love to see that on Neowin daily :)

Timan's is nice and all, but it just wouldn't fit in Neowin4. Anyways, this isn't a "what do you think of this logo" thread, this is the logo. :p Those who really like Timans will unfortunately end up disappointed.

And will fortunatly be able to switch back to older skins . It's just an opinion of course, but if that's what all of Neowin4 is going to look like, then there is no way in hell I'll use it. Way to big and fancy. No offense, but it kind of looks like it was designed by a little 12 year old who just learned how to use all the Photoshop filters.

Again, that's just me, though it is unfortunate to hear you say with such authority that it IS the logo, no matter what we (the people who visit the site, and some of us, the people that help pay for the site) think.

Either way, I don't give a rat's ass what it looks like, I just visit the site for the site.

    • All versions is correct. The bug appears on any version of Windows with KB5094126 installed. It's a little insane to expect the author to explain that systems that can't possibly have that patch installed, will not experience the bug. If you have any gripe about the title, it would be that it doesn't mention the update at all, but I wouldn't agree with that either. A title is not expected to be a full summery of the article.
    • (Can't see if he's still wearing the clompy clown shoes though)
    • I'd say the first one failed to be as popular as Apple anticipated, but the easy adjustment here is to make fewer of them next time around. It would only be a "flop" if it isn't possible for Apple to recover the design and factory tooling costs given the number of units sold, which I doubt would be the case. It isn't like no one bought them; it just failed to become the new hot phone of the year.
    • You're right that it does not follow the plain meaning of the word, but in this context, it is a legal term defined in 49 U.S.C. Kind of how "wire fraud" laws apply even if a physical wire was not used. Given that it is codified in law, and it isn't just automotive journalists that don't understand evolving technology, I highly doubt congress would change a well understood term just because technology makes the term slightly less actuate.
