Presenting the new Neowin Logo

Recommended Posts

Well i thinks thats a perfect idea, this way even if people do like the new design and the all around new changes, we still have the choice of choosing something different from time to time.? I don't know about everyone else, but i really do appreciate this piece of comment by Mr. Fredd...?:p:p

Since I think you missed it:

Unless something changes, the Neowin 3 skins will still be available to choose (along with Classic), so if you decide you're not a fan of 4, you can always go back.?&nbs:yes:es:

This is something Steve and I have discussed and has been worked into the current design;) ;)

It looks alright, I prefer the old one though...I think it's the bevel, looks bad and also in the new one, the border around the circle is kinda jagged.

Just messing around, maybe keep the original look, just make it not look so outdated (gradient wise.)

:D These are awesome!

...in the new one, the border around the circle is kinda jagged.

There's a reason for that... without giving too much away about the design, he's another version:

When we get closer to finish, I'll release a set of logos (half for dark backgrounds, half for light) along with a psd so that people can use the components for what they need.

I like the new ones much better than the old one. Although I do like that one you posted ealier with less/smoother bevels.

There is one thing though, I think it is an optical illusion but the bottom right hand bit of the white circle seems to stick out more than the top left bit.

Nope... there's been more done to it than that (different style, more of a circle, than the current logo, etc).   Here's a side by side of just the logo portion (same size)... Old on the left, new on the right:

All I did to the old was resize it and cut out a circle... the logos are quite similar, and that's on purpose, as I said before, we have our branding to think of.  ;)

that's a really good comparison. the new one is definitely much cooler.

i think 'slick' is the word :)

Dig all of them. ('Exclusive' & 'Hardware' logos are different; not matching colors. Intentional ?)

This one's going to change too ? :ninja:

lol There's more than just those... I made about 15 or so. ;) All the color changes are intentional, I could have made them exact if I wanted to. About the Editor's Choice... I'll hafta redo more it seems... I did, however, make an Editorial:

:D hehe

@slimy - The colors actually look great on the site. When I made the logo, it was built around the new site, so that's why I say it works so well... you'll see. The other's are just too different of a shade to work.

I can't say I like it VERY much, but I trust the guys at Neowin. It will sure look WONDERFUL with Neowin 4. And by the way, is the new skin going to be the one leaked WAY back in this thread? ... I'm getting curious now...

wctaiwan

P.S. This thread seems to be going the 'good' way now...

EDIT: The nodding  looks so cute! :p

how the hell do you leak a skin?!

586425209[/snapback]

Easy!

Step 1. Make new skin.

Step 2. Put picture of it on forum.

Step 3. Wait for people to see it.

Step 4. Watch as other sites use your skin before you release it.

Step 5. Repeat steps 1 - 4.

:p

All I'll say is this:  The new skin has not been leaked to this, or any other, thread.  ;)

I am still kind of curious whether Long's design was actually used. There was a huge ass thread about it some time ago. Toxikk I believe was working on it as well. Neowin staff was eager to use it.. so the question is.. was it used or not?

Didn't WinBeta copy one of the new Neowin skin mockups, Flish?

There was an argument about it, and while they say they didn't copy it, a lot of their theme looked very similar to the preview (and was released after we released the preview). The issue has been dropped (so please don't restart it... I don't want to spend my day removing comments and handing out warnings), but yes... you remember right.

    • They aren't going to want to. Most would just go with the 17 Pro and save money. Why would they want to spend $300 for basically the same thing? It's not worth it if there are hardly any changes from year to year.
    • 24H2 rolled out to the Release Preview Channel in early June 2024, so this coming a bit later in the Experimental Channel (formerly Dev) doesn't really say much more than earlier H2 releases that came out in October. I am not sure what the thinking is here by putting it in Experimental, one would think that the 26H2 stamp means features are locked down and it's now bug tested until October? I don't even pretend to understand Microsoft's strategy for Windows Insider Program though
