Google Talk website OPEN!

hmm well this isnt bad but it need a lot more features as long as they can keep the simplicity of course.

i think for the first time you dont have to be invited to gmail in the usual way https://www.google.com/accounts/SmsMailSignup1 you can do this instead but you need to have a US cell phone....

my email is [email protected]

ps does no one else think its very strange and possibly extremely annoying that people can invite you more than once. so someone could add you and you could turn them down and then they could just do it again :s

Yeah really, I thought the guys at G were fans of OS X :/

Big whoo...connect with iChat or Adium and text message...umm, we can do that now

It's decent, but definitely has a long way to go.

Exactly. I think the interface is somehow similar to those msn mockups that come out everyday... well, a much simplified version of them.

I like this, but it lacks MANY features.

:D

Let's see how this evolve then.

15. What new features are you working on?

We could tell you, but then you'd have to promise to not talk about it... Joking aside, Google Talk is still in beta, and we're working hard to add features and make improvements. We're just not quite ready yet to reveal the other cool things we've got planned. We can say this, though: we believe strongly in user choice and open standards, and we are committed to letting users access Google Talk using the client and platform of their choice, as well as to enabling our users to talk with users from other service providers.

:D best is to come guys

has anyone else noticed that when you click on a mail message when it notifies you of it instead of opening the normal gmail page for that message with the interface that says inbox and all mail at the side it brings up just the message with no interface which is very annoying because you cant view your other mail that way without clicking inbox which opens a new windows (or tab) and you cant archive the message from this screen :(

That is the problem I have with MSN/AIM/Yahoo!, they all have way too many features that are basically useless. Avatars may be nice admittedly and File Transfers would be good but other than that it seems like an extremely good program!

But, it's not like these extra features that other mature IM products have, actually stop it performing its basic functionality...messaging. It's not like you log in to your chosen IM, and go "hey wait, there are too many things going on here, i dont know what to do", you more likely to just go "hey, i see xxx is online, lets chat". So regardless of the feature set of the product, you're still able to chat to others easily.

My only quibble about the program, is that it's nothing new... there are a myriad of IM platforms out there, so why did Google decide to just chuck one out?

I am conected using Trillian and the Jabber thingymabobby. The settings are automatically set for you, but I appear to be disconnecred every couple of minutes until I reconnect again.

Anyone know why possbily?

    • For the purpose that it was built for, it’s a great machine. It’s okay to own multiple machines, it’s okay for machines to be different. If every computer was the same, they’d be boring af.
    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
