Villa Real 0-0 Rangers incorrect it was 1-1

Sorry about the incorrect scoreline. I could have sworn I heard John Dykes say it was a goalless draw.

I can see Chelsea manager leaving at the end of the season and the chairman buying Barcelona.

LOL.

UPDATE

Liverpool are out of the Champions League after being beaten by Benfica, leaving Arsenal the only English team left in the CL. (How the hell did that happen?)

Arsenal and real Madrid played out a goalless draw which saw the English team go through to the Quarter-Finals.

AC Milan beat Bayern Munich to book their place in the quarters, as did Lyon who thrashed PSV Eindhoven.

Final Scores:

Arsenal 0-0 Real Madrid (1-0 Agg)

AC Milan 4-1 Bayern Munich (5-2 Agg)

Liverpool 0-2 Benfica (0-3 Agg)

PSV Eindhoven 0-4 Lyon (0-5 Agg)

I am gutted

I am going into hibination.

See you in the summer Martyn. :D . Seriously though, how did Liverpool play? Were Benfica better than them or were they lucky? They didn't telecast the match over here.

Congratulations to the Arsenal fans though, the team played really well and deserved to go through.

I will give an honest opinion on the game just for you.

At the start Liverpool dominated and we had about 10 clear cut chances, we hit the post twice and we should of scored a fair few. But our strikers cannot finish for anything, especially Morientes. After a while Benfica started to come into the game a bit more and they hit the crossbar, from that point on they came alive and scored a brilliant goal.

Once Benfica scored Liverpool became downhearted and it went downhill from there. It just was not are night and we didnt have any luck at all.

I dont understand why Traore player, he is a terrible player and perhaps handed Benfica their goals tonight. Hyypia is much more solid but he was not 100% fit. Playing Morientes up front was terrible as well, Morientes has not scored since December and he has started almost every game since then. So why play him in an such important game? Surely you should play Fowler who is a proven and prolific goalscorer and who actually understands the passion of Liverpool Football Club? Even Cisse would have scored a few tonight if he played up front, I can guarantee it. Cisse is a natural goalscorer but Rafa will not play him up front, only on the right wing! How can he score if he does not play upfront? Cisse could solve Liverpool's goal problems. It just was not our night.

Anyway, here is to next year! At least we keep our trophy! Well done to Arsenal as well, I like Arsenal much better than Chelsea (scum) and Manure (scum).

Even when we lost the Liverpool fans were singing their hearts out, and we applauded the Benfica players like they were are own. Liverpool have perhaps the best history and definately the best fans :)

Just saw the goal highlights. Liverpool could have scored so many in the first 20 minutes. Can't understand whey they don't finish as well as they create, it's been the story all season long. You can't blame Morientes alone though. He was so good at Madrid and Monaco, especially Madrid.

What a brilliant goal by Simao. Absolutely brilliant!!

I'm glad that Liverpool are out though. Benfica are proving to be the English bane this season. I wonder what would happen if they were drawn against Arsenal in the next round.

An advise: I listened in the radio that you only scored 8 goals in 12 matches. Something must change, and fast!

Now that is something everyone should agree on.

Our strikers have only scored 1 goal combined in 2006! And for a team sitting pretty high up in the league that is unacceptable. Personally, I think the drought has mainly been down to selecting Morientes continuously when the guy cannot score for a toffee for Liverpool, he was great for Real and Monaco though but he just wont make it Anfield, and should be sold especially as he is 30 now and is past his peak.

Crouch is a good striker who brings more to the team than scoring goals. Cisse is a proven goalscorer who scored 20 goals in 30 games in France practically every season, and did well for Liverpool when played up front. Fowler is God, he is the third highest goal scorer in Premiership history, has scored the fastest hatrick in Premiership history, and scored so many goals for Liverpool. He may not be as good as he was but he is still God.

So in truth we have three good strikers, who if rotated and played in their correct positions (dont play Cisse on the wing for example, when he is a striker) can easily get us about 25 goals a season combined. If you rotate them three we will score goals, and when you score goals you get the confidence and the belief back and you will score more goals.

Come on Liverpool, just the last few pieces of the jigsaw need to be implemented. You'll Never Walk Alone.

Arsenal 0-0 Real Madrid

(Ars progress 1-0 on aggregate wahaha)

What a thrilling match. Goalless it may be, but there was certainly no lack of scoring chances. The opening 5 minues alone proves to be twice as exciting as the highlights of the Barca-Chelsea tie (I want my 2 hours I wasted on that match back).

Almost every single Arsenal player was brilliant and just like 2 weeks ago they should have wrapped the game up by half time. But really Real too were an improved side. At least Ronaldo had a scoring chance in the 3rd minute (which he headed tamely to Lehmann), something he didnt manage to do for the whole match in the Bernabeu.

Yet still Arsenal were undoubtedly the better side. Their passing was ABSOULUTELY SUPERB. Henry created so many chances for his teammates, Reyes in particular. In so many occasions he held the ball well, drawing all defenders to him, before passing the ball to Reyes, who should have scored twice. He had 3 chances, the first he flashed it wide. The 2nd he shot at a defender's head from Henry's pass. The 3rd, from yet another Henry pass, he contrived to shoot against the crossbar.

The ball rebounded off the woodwork and Real counter-attacked. Zidane has a great scoring opportunity at the edge of the area. Thinking he was still the best player in the world, he decided to take the ball into the area. Out flew Toure with a superb tackle.

In the 2nd half though, Real can count themeselves unluicky not to have scored. From Beck's header, Raul hit a beautiful shot that, just like that Reyes crossbar shot , I thought was surely going into the net. No keeper could have sopped it. he ball hit the inside of the post and reboudned off. Raul hit a curling follow-up, and Lehmann scrambled just to tip the ball wide in a magneficient save.

Nearing the end, desperate, Casillas went forward for a corner. The ball fell to Pires who tried to score from Arsenal's half. Just a little bit more power and Roberto Carlos would not have been able to clear.

Ultimately, it was Arsenal's game. Their passing should have won the game, but the finishing disappointed.

Still, WE ARE THROUGH TO THE QUARTER FINALS WOOT!!!

Ratings:

Lehmann - Solid throughout. He's ahead of Kahn now definitely (who let in 4 goals last night hahaha.) 7/10

Flamini - Good, but occasionally gave too much space to Becks on the right flank. Also conceded too many dangerous freekicks. 6/10

Senderos - Apart from an embarassing near-own goal, was solid in defense and in the air. 7/10

Toure - Reliable and strong and solid, what a defender should be. 8/10

Eboue - Solid im defense, this guy actually has the audacity to go forward right into the opposition's area. And whats more he's so strong the defenders could not stop him! Might very well be better than Lauren, though this guy doesnt cross as much as Lauren does. 8/10

Reyes - Always dangerous with his runs. Got many freekicks. Should have scored twice. 7/10

Gilberto - Solid in midfield and defense. 7/10

Fabregas - ABSOLUTELY ****KING BRILLIANT SUPERB PASSER!! Holds and controls the ball magneficiently. In the first half EVERY SINGLE PASS from him found the feet of a teammate. 8.5/10

Hleb - WOW. Some neat turns got him away from Real defenders, and his passing was just as good as Fabregas. Brilliant stuff. 8.5/10

Ljungbeg - Dangerous as always with his tireless runs. Some good passing too. 7/10

Henry - Fashioned many chances for himself that others could not have possibly done. Once took on 4 defenders surronding him and managed to shoot just wide from the edge of the area. Created chances for Reyes too. 8.5/10

Match rating: No goals but who needs them if every match is this exciting? 9/10

and sorry bout Liverpool, I wanted them to prgress...

I am sure I heard voices telling me it was 10-0; I am a big girls blouse.

Touche

Yeah, why wasn't this just put in the UEFA thread that already exists? And wow Filippo Inzaghi is on FIRE! Forza Milan and I hope Lippi sees through his unexplainable loyalty to Vieri and drops him from the national team in favor of Pippo for the World Cup.

    • They couldn't have done a better job, this is beautiful!
    • Oh, of course not. The real "victims" are the people who snipe kids in the head, have killed more journalist than all the worlds wars combined, do double tap strikes on medical personnel, claim history started on October 7th, have a $700 million dollar annual Hasbara budget and pay influencers $7k a post to spout exactly this kind of propaganda. How dare you question the most moral army in the world. Victimhood belongs to these genocidal freaks alone. Anyone who denies that is literally Hitler. If you're going to support a terrorist state, the least you could do is come up with better talking points.
    • Gears of War: E-Day brings 12-player co-op, smoother traversal mechanics, and more by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Right as the Xbox Games Showcase came to an end today, The Gears of War developer The Coalition took over to show off its next project: E-Day. This prequel project was announced back in 2024, but now we have a lot more details about its campaign, new gameplay mechanics, and even a release date. The studio says this is the first time it has managed to get the time to build the entire game in a new engine, as it had worked non-stop on new titles for years while porting classic code and assets. With Unreal Engine 5 now powering Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition says it started completely anew, with all assets, animations, environments, and others being built from scratch. The campaign will take place across three days in the city of Kalona. The story will follow the events through the eyes of Bravo Squad. This is made up of the returning classic duo Marcus and Dom, as well as the new characters Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes. Watch the trailer below to see Marcus in action without his iconic armor and gear, just as the Locust invasion kicks off. The story will draw on classic Gears novels like Aspho Fields as well, with the studio even collaborating with author Karen Traviss. "That continuity is what makes the destruction land," says the studio. "In E-Day, you watch a living city torn apart—homes still lit, meals half-finished—while people abandon their cars and run for cover. Small details—a child’s toy, an uneaten dinner—make the loss real as everyday places collapse under the Locust assault." The movement system is getting a big overhaul here. Players will be able to slide while running, jump across gaps, climb head-height covers, and even crawl on the ground to avoid fire from enemies. As for the returning horde mode, The Coalition teased a new 12-player PvE mode. This will involve three squads of Gears going up against the incoming Locusts in larger city maps than usual. The studio says that it is going to reimagine the classic formula just as co-op games are going through a resurgence. Multiplayer was touched on today too, where Versus is coming back touting four versus four Gears PVP action set across Kalona maps. More details about multiplayer will be revealed later. Open beta weekends are kicking off this August for fans wanting to jump in early too. Gears of War: E-Day is releasing on Xbox Series X|S and PC on October 6 with pre-orders available now. It will also be a part of Xbox Game Pass on day one. Microsoft has confirmed this as an Xbox platform exclusive, as there are no plans to bring it to PlayStation or Switch.
    • Microsoft announces the return of Xbox exclusives with Gears of War and Clockwork Revolution by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft had plenty of announcements to make today at the Xbox Games Showcase celebrating 25 years of the gaming brand. Now, under the leadership of the new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Xbox games are going back to their original release methods. She appeared in the livestream itself to announce the return of Xbox console exclusives. This means two major upcoming games from first-party studios won't be coming to PlayStation or Nintendo consoles: Gears of War: E-Day from The Coalition and Clockwork Revolution from InExile. Both titles will only be coming out on Xbox Series X|S consoles and Windows PCs, ditching any plans they had for PlayStation. "These are not timed exclusives," confirmed Microsoft. "We’re committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond." The company confirmed that any already announced Xbox titles for PlayStation, under previous leadership, will continue to arrive for the rival platform. This means games like the new Halo remake, Forza Horizon 6, Fable, and State of Decay 3 will still be available on PlayStation, either at launch or later. It sounds like any new projects announced by the company will avoid other consoles in the same way. Microsoft first opened the floodgates by bringing titles like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles back in 2024. Since then, almost every new game release from Xbox Game Studios has arrived for rival consoles alongside Xbox and PC. This decision follows Sony's plans to ditch its own multiplatform releases too. Outside of multiplatform live service titles, the PlayStation maker is even abandoning its PC porting endeavors that started years ago.
