AIM Triton 0.6.17 Released

Recommended Posts

Today Triton AIM version 0.6.17 was released. This release includes a few new features:

* A new Plaxo?-enabled AIM Address Book that gives you the ability to import your contacts from a variety of applications (Outlook and Outlook Express) and ISPs (Yahoo and MSN Hotmail) directly into your Buddy List feature. The AIM Address Book also allows you to share your contacts with other users. Please visit the Test Instructions for easy, simple to follow instructions on how to set up this functionality

* A new Expressions Setting that allows you to display other users' wallpaper in your IM windows

In addition there have been a bunch of bug fixes:

# In the Buddy List's, File -- AOL menu, the 'AIM.com' option should be labeled as AIM Today

# If Buddy List is not scrolled to top at signoff, it does not automatically scroll to the top when signing back on

# When changing status to Away, the 'Away since:' field within the Away message on the BL for linked accounts is blank

# The Live Video feature is not available in AIM Triton

# Screen Name pulldown menu does not populate without application restart

# Last-used SN is not remembered in Screen Name field on Sign On screen when client is restarted (first SN in list always is selected at launch)

# When client is launched, Sign On screen has no default focus - cannot sign on with Enter key without tabbing first

# When user signs off and try to sign on back, user is getting message 'incorrect password' ,and not able to login( Only for dial up)

Workaround:Exit the client, launch it again and then sign on

# Using AOL Uninstaller and Uninstalling "AOL Communications Suite" remove ALL versions of Triton, including standalone

# If Strauss Refresh GM is installed after AIM Triton (0.4.7), a tray icon for each appears on your taskbar; both have the same options. Rebooting fixes the issue

# Linked SNs get prompted for password when trying to send Quicknote Mail

# Report IM Spam link is not working

# In your IM, the buddy's SuperBuddy will not animate to the custom text trigger the buddy sent

# No message is received by user that, buddy has rejected chat invitation

# SuperBuddy still displays in current IM window if you turn off the SB setting

# IM Catcher does not allow for screennames longer than 16 characters (domained sns) without text overlap

# Toggling the Friendly Names option does not update names in existing IM windows

# With Grouped IM window open, closing the window does not give a warning dialog box

My point in sharing all these bug fixes with you, was to show that we are making progress and things are getting better. I would love as always to get feedback on beta 6.

I have three problems with Triton keeping me from switching full time to it at this point:

1. Telling Triton to play the default sounds (dooropen.wav, doorclose.wav) etc, doesn't work and only produces the windows default beep.

2. AOL Toasts still create their own taskbar entry when they appear

3. Any profile with a non-white window background is incorrectly displayed.

Those bugs have been there for at least the last 3 beta releases. Fix those and I'll be converted. Otherwise it looks good

Seems some of the most obvious and blatant bugs are still there, even with these bi-weekly updates. I sure hope they fix all this stuff by the time a final version is ready for the public. I still can't even save my settings.

I wish they'd fix the bugs that make Triton pleasantly functional before adding all that stupid AOL bloat.

Wow. Processes went down quite a bit.

Already a problem...??

AOLSoftware has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Everything seems a little more smoother and quicker now. There is alot of features missing still:

1. Font support like in 5.9.

2. Edit your profile like in 5.9.

3. Direct Connections like in 5.9.

4. Logging?

Plus I am waiting on bscabl for the new Hack. ;)

Agree font support is needed. Logging is available two ways. One is via JAMS plugin, which you can download at my blog, or via an easter egg in the client. Edit profile is in JAMS as well. For now File Transfer is as good as we are going to get, the only deprication of features using FT instead of Direct IM, is inline data in the IM history.

Sounds are working for my QA tonight. Can we get some steps to reproduce from your machine. Also when you click the preview in the preferences do u hear any sound? Maybe the sounds are not being installed on the box.

Urg...those toasters need to be fixed. I wish it were as simple as me fixing them. Unfortunately that is a totally separate team here at AOL.

Can you post a SN of the profile that you are seeing as being displayed incorrectly?

Thanks again for all the feedback...it is interesting to see what problems you all are having.

Well, I went to try and repro the sound problem, only to find a new one. I had turned off the sounds completely through the Settings dialog because I didn't want to hear windows' "thunk" every 5 seconds, and now when I go to turn them back on ("Play this sound:") the settings won't keep. No settings will change from what I currently have them set to.

I don't want to give out any SNs on a public forum so I'll PM you some of the profiles that are rendering incorrectly. Basically, the problem is any profile where when the window color is set to something other than white it still displays white.

Also, auto signin and password saving still don't seem to be working here.

ah, we already blocked plexo...

Other than the plexo and aol explorer what other items are you not installing. I am no NARC, but I am curious as to see how bare bones you made the install.

For those who are having preference issues (sounds being saved, and login screen checkbox issues) are you using the latest beta 0.6.17? If not please do since these issues have been fixed in the latest beta. If you are using the latest beta, let me know, so I can pass the info along to our QA.

The install getting stuck at 24%, is that an installer from our beta.aol.com website? What OS are u installing to?

I'm using beta 6 and still seeing these issues, although I've found that preferences not being saved (from my earlier post) seems to be an issue with a particular account and not the entire program. I think something got corrupted somewhere down the line in my one account's appdata, any ideas as to what I should delete to clear all the information about the account?

Update to my last post:

Found the application data (in all users...), cleared it, and as I suspected, I can now make changes to my settings.

1. Giving relative paths to sounds (the default) seems to produce the default beep, but if I specify the full path its OK

2. Auto signin still does not work, and won't save my password, even though the "Save Password" check box is checked.

You're not the only one who's still having preference saving problems. Mine are still there even after a fresh install. In addition, when I send an IM the sound it makes is the Windows default sound.

I've cleared my application data like y_notm suggested.

Also when trying to auto sign in (doesn't matter which screen name), it hangs until I press cancel and try to sign in again manually. It does save my password, not like y_notm's problem.

I'm really impressed by this new version compared to the previous ones, but here's what keeps me from switching:

1) Need direct connect

2) Need logging directly through the client, not plugins

3) Need to be able to set default font

4) Also, it crashed on me a few times in my testing on my laptop, in the span of a couple hours with the same error Tem got. Yeah I know it's beta, just saying.

Id switch 100% to AIM Triton, if it could direct connect and keep a log of my IMs. I love the look, but some things that are missing keep me away from using it full time. Not to mention the bloat that comes with it. But I understand its BETA so I dont complain, ill be patient and wait :)

Just curious why do u want to log IMs through the client? There was an easter egg in beta 5 for it, but we pulled it for beta 6...i have a feeling we will put it back in or really put it in for the next release.

Are the AIM Triton developers mentally challenged?  I honestly cannot see why they are taking so long to get direct IMs working.  It's been working in the current client for years!

586586955

Well I can tell you we are not mentally challenged, when writing code from the ground up it presents some additional challenges like making sure we put in some new features too, not just getting feature parity, in Triton's case this is a new UI plus some other stuff like multiparty conferencing. We have not forgotten about DIM, and it will make an appearance at some point. File Transfer is not a bad alternative, the only difference between DIM and FT is the transfer appearing inline in the IM history window.

586587078

Well for simplicity's sake it's much easier to just have the client itself manage the logging rather than rely on a plugin to do it. Trillian does logging very well, the client itself does it and you don't need to get a seperate plugin. If anyone doesn't want to log their chats it can always be turned off. It's an important feature to me because often I want to see what was said at a previous time.

Because they are more important things to do in a beta? This is just that, afterall, a beta.

But why take out features instead of just keeping them? I understand this is a rewrite, but their is no need to take out a good feature such as Direct Connection.

    • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
