AIM Triton 0.6.17 Released

Recommended Posts

Anyone know a work around to get this to install on Windows XP x64? Currently it comes up with the minimum requirements error.

FWIW, I actually have a bug in an x64 bit environment, so I know our testers are able to install on it. I will try and figure out what they are doing to get it to install.

Thanks.. This really is annoying. The 5.9 aim client and previous has got to be the worst client I have ever seen so I really want to get triton working.

But why take out features instead of just keeping them? I understand this is a rewrite, but their is no need to take out a good feature such as Direct Connection.

We have not taken out DIM...we have not implemented it yet is a better way of saying it. We know it is missing, along with saving and exporting buddy list, which I happened to fix via a JAMS plugin, see my blog to get it. Features are being added as quickly as we can get to them, sometimes they are not in the order people want. It is hard to satisfy 350 million registered users.

Is anyone going to address my reported problems?

I assume you are referring to the sign in problem you mentioned a few posts back. I would like to discuss this further with you. If you could PM me that would be great, since there are things I need answers to that you will not want to share in a forum. Specifically are you logging into Triton via a proxy? Are you using an AIM-only SN? Thanks for your help with this. I was hoping all our login issues were behind us at this point.

Just curious why do u want to log IMs through the client?  There was an easter egg in beta 5 for it, but we pulled it for beta 6...i have a feeling we will put it back in or really put it in for the next release.

I can't believe you're asking that. No offense, but AIM is the only mainstream messaging client that still doesn't have decent logging capabilities. It was brought in briefly with AIM 4.4 and then disappeared. That is one of the biggest features that AIM lacks. It shouldn't require a plugin either. :( I'd also like to see a built in log manager too, not just html files dumped to the disk. Good to hear that this should be coming back though. Keep up the good work. :)

Ok can you explain to me the "Plaxo, Search Bar, AOL Explorer" part? I mean cmon who is really going to use this stuff? It just really serves no purpose. :(

OK, I understand why you want logging in the client.  Oh how I miss working on the AIM 4.4 client.  Logging in that client was definitely not ready for prime time.  However, just as a point of contention, we at AOL have always viewed logging as a great plugin since plugins could customize the organization of the logs and strip out stuff you did not want.    Like I said, I think we will see this back in the client like it was in Beta 5...hopefully for the next release.

I think we have covered this before. We are not a non-profit organization. Basically thinks like Plaxo actually are interesting features that allow for people to engage in an even larger community. I think everyone here on neowin, my blog, and Justin's blog have left their comments on aol explorer and search bar. Hopefully we can provide the experience that we all are hoping for. ;)

Other than the plexo and aol explorer what other items are you not installing.  I am no NARC, but I am curious as to see how bare bones you made the install.

586585977

the browser, plexo, and [not sure if this is still even needed, someone else mentioned win2k] we removed the xp only restriction...

basically, everything that was really irritatingly being forced on ya..

well, its 10:15 ... 15 minutes since I began installing it .... it's still frozen at 24% running xp pro, sp2

586588195

It is possible that the installer is trying to download some component and there is a network issue. Of course if you are posting on neowin you probably are ok on your connection. I will try and circle back with the installer team tomorrow to find out what happens at 24%. ;)

To answer your questions, no I don't use a proxy and yes I'm using an AIM-only screenname. It hangs at "Validating..." until I press cancel and connect again. After that, the systray icon remains dim since I guess it thinks I'm not connecting; in other words, even though I've reconnected it doesn't light up again.

And what about my Preferences saving problems? I deleted all traces of it and reinstalled but I still can't save my preferences.

PS: I'm installing via AIM Ad-Hack (which downloads the new 0.6 beta for me and does all that other Plaxo/Browser blocking junk.)

Seems like you or us got your machine in a really nasty state. I think I can try and help you out. Try uninstalling, then cleaning out C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL\UserProfiles, all sub folders that have cls folder in them.

That should purge any prefs you have stored up. Then lets assure that uninstall blew everything away by going to C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1118872096 (your number will differ from mine at the end). If there is no folder with a number in the path, we are cleaned out.

After that go to beta.aol.com and reinstall. Give it a try. If it still does not work please let me know, I will see if I can help more.

I did everything you said and I'm still getting the connection problems. I even skipped AIM Ad-Hack and did an install from the official site.

When I send an IM it still makes the Windows default beep, and my preferences still do not save :(

For what it's worth, I get a bunch of crashes caused by "stic.dll"

//Time to uninstall for good

So anyone know how to get this to install on x64?

586589205

We are not blocking x64 bit installs...so it is not a simple fix of changing the setup.ini file. Are you using beta 6 from beta.aol.com website? At what point in the install does it say that your machine does not meet our requirements? I will try and see if anyone else has reported your problem to us.

SULAX50, you're doing a good job...and it is coming along nicely. I also appreciate you taking the time to converse with members of this forum to get their feedback...that alone makes me respect your team and project more (since you are talking AND RESPONDING to the 'more advanced than your average user' who will actually explore all the uses of this program).

Lastly, yes-it does suck that all the other crap (AOL explorer, Plexo, etc.) is installed with it. I am assuming this is not a decision you make, but rather other's in a higher position. Regardless---thank God we have AIM AdHack. It is one of the first program's I install from my thumb drive on any customer's pc that I work on that already has AIM installed. You should try it...

I would like to see cloning abilities such as those implemented in aim ad hack...aim ad hack has true cloning...i find it easier to manage with cloning with aim ad hack than it is with linking screennames which i find to make less sense...maybe you can implement both options (both with having the option to either clone the client or else link screennames) so that then it will be more flexible...dunno if those are good ideas or not but those are just some things i think would make aim a better overall client and a client that is ahead of the rest. I also like how the developers seem to be taking in feedback...keep up the good work! :)

Fixed startup crashes when Python Requests is unavailable. Windows Fixed a security vulnerability that could allow arbitrary file deletion when cleaning with elevated privileges. Added %WindowsSystem% variable support. Improved clipboard clearing using native Windows APIs. Improved installer experience on unsupported Windows versions. Reduced installer size and improved application robustness. Fixed Unicode handling, filename anonymization, Git revision reporting, and splash screen stability. • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
