AIM Triton 0.6.17 Released

Recommended Posts

Just an update on this issue.  One QA engineer saw this issue and we are trying to go back to see what solved the issue for them.  For those that are having the sign on problem, do you have AIM Today launch at sign on as a preference?  Also do you have AOL Explorer installed?  Thanks to anyone who can get me that info.

The login issues persist with or without AIM Today enabled.

Doesn't matter for me since my preferences still don't save. Mind you I've tried this on 3 different computers.

Yeah so, uhm, I did a completely fresh install on a computer that has never had Triton previously installed on it and I had no issues whatsoever. My preferences saved, sounds were fine, no connection problems, etc. Seems my proglem is installing new betas on PCs that have had betas on it already (previously uninstalled or otherwise).

Now here's what I want to know. If I want to do this on my computers with Triton previously installed, how would I go about erasing _ALL_ traces of it? After an uninstall I've tried deleting the following:

C:\Program Files\AOL

C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL

And the problems are still present after a reinstall.

So the problem must lie somewhere in the registry. Can anyone tell me which registry entries I can delete that will make it so _ALL_ traces of Triton are off my computer before I can try reinstalling it?

Thanks.

I did a fresh installation of Windows XP Home SP2 with all updates and latest drivers. Installed AIM Trition 0.6.17 with AIM Ad Hack 5.0 Beta 7 + JAMS 2.0 and signing on for the first time worked. :)

I am starting to think there is stuff left behind from old Beta installations that causes the newer Triton to have issues signing on.

I am forwarding this off to our QA now. This was my guess last Friday, not sure if I actually wrote that here in the forums, but I did ask QA to investigate. The was an issue with a specifc service that we thought was solved. I will get directions on how to get a complete uninstall done for triton. Sorry this is going on, I used to write the install/uninstall for AIM 4.x and 5.x but with the new Triton we have a separate install team doing all the work.

Can I have a few quick suggestions, SULAX50?

Font preferences a MUST!

Customizable coloring of fonts a must too. I remember in AOL 9.0 "Blue Hawaii" that the customizable coloring was brought back after it disappeared in AOL 5.0. I want to set my lime green (Green 255) font to the yellow-green font via entering in the number "185" beside the Green label.

And at last, but not least, the screen name format! Just like in AOL 9.0 Optimized, 9.0 Optimized SE/LE, and 9.0 Security Edition, I want to see the bright colors and themes of screen names themselves ON my buddy list. If you don't know what I'm talking about, sign on any edition of AOL 9.0 and then go to Keyword: Format SN. That coloring of SNs, AND keep the old way of formatting via capitalization and spacing in AIM 5.9.

That's all! Thanks and pls pls pls forward these suggestions to the developers! Thanks!

Well I downloaded the first beta and quickly uninstalled it, but I'm using this one as my primary. Its functional, but there are still many features that I think should be.

1. Bring back the font preferences like everyone has said. It lets people further customize it and just makes things funner.

2. Incoming font preferences including font and color dont exist.

3. Background color in profiles isn't up to par. Sometimes you dont get the whole window background, only the text background.

4. the auto login does not work when your at the login screen.

5. Why do you have a search bar in the IM window? Usually when I'm trying to have a conversation, I need as less as possible. It just gets to cluttered.

6. I really want to use a profile w/o having to download JAMS and i also want to be able to use a buddy icon again. why o why would you get rid of that? even in a beta?

Still no answer to how to get this to install on winxp 64? What is so bad about the operating system that you won't let me install triton on it.

As he's said numerous times, there's nothing that should be stopping it. He can't give you a fix if he's not sure what the problem is. The fact that people at the campus are running it fine on x64 means that there could be a special circumstance on you system or it could be a completely local issue.

Well I don't understand it either as I meet the requirements other then the fact that the sys requirements notice says that I need win xp 32bit.

Right and he said he's going to be getting in touch with the installation group about issues mentioned here. Just try to be patient and I'm sure the problem will be resolved. It could be a simple identifier error in the installer that needs to be addressed. I doubt there's anything that can be done, right now, to correct such an issue.

Got it to work. I remembered about windows xp's compatibility feature and applied it for winxp 32bit.

So there is something that can be done, lol. Anyways, glad to hear. Hopefully Sulax will notice your post and be able to pass it on to his team.

1. We are working on adding features, I am not sure where this fits in the road map. I would like to see this as well.

2. Not sure what you mean here. Are you saying that when a buddy sends an IM with a different font and color it is not working?

3. Known issue, someone via my blog pointed it out to me, need to investigate further.

4. Will check that out.

5. I mentioned earlier, I believe you can pull that out, but you have to know where to look.

6. This is on its way. JAMS is being used as a bridge and an early example of what we can do with plugins. For example, I could theoretically build a plugin that can remember font size/type/color, though I am not sure you guys will want to use it through JAMS.

Got it to work. I remembered about windows xp's compatibility feature and applied it for winxp 32bit.

Thanks for the info, I will try and get this posted to the beta.aol.com website FAQ...thanks again for the feedback. Glad you got it to work.

Does Triton support screen names secured by AOL Passcode (SecurID)? I would also like to point out I am glad this forum has a AIM Dev on it who is actually willing to listen to the users responses/feedback/requests, unlike other 3rd party IM applications.

Yes, in fact my gregsblog SN has secure ID attached to it, but in the old aim 5.x client it ignores the secure ID, but triton honors that just like the AOL 4.x-9.x clients do.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We did tests this weekend on the sign on hang issue. In about 30 tests we hung twice. After the hang we don't hang in any subsequent sign on attempt. For those with issues you hang at every attempt?

To get your machine clean of any previous installs, here are the steps QA says to use:

Uninstall Triton

Uninstall AOL Explorer

Delete the following:

Directory: c:\program files\common files\aol

Directory: c:\program files\aol

Directory: c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\aol

Registry key: HKLM\Software\America Online

Then try installing beta 6 and check your results. We are doing more investigation today on the sign on issue. Saving prefs will be tackled next. Thanks for your patience. :)

This maintenance-focused release includes bug fixes, updated translations, and a range of safe enhancements. This release fixes a Windows security issue that could allow arbitrary file deletion during privileged cleaning (reported by Zeze with TeamT5). It also adds new cleaners (including a DNS cache cleaner, Claude Code, and Visual Studio Code forks), support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles, new deep scan options for developer directories like node_modules and venv, and safer, faster file shredding. All Platforms Added cleaners for Claude Code, DNS cache, and many Visual Studio Code forks. Added support for multiple Chrome and Edge profiles. Chrome can now clean downloaded AI models. Deep Scan can optionally remove venv, __pycache__, node_modules, and .angular directories. Deep Scan is faster by skipping directories on the keep list. File shredding is safer, faster, and leaves fewer recoverable traces. Improved handling of cookies, symlinks, Unicode filenames, external processes, and configuration files. Improved Expert Mode warnings and long warning dialogs. Fixed crashes related to cleaner detection, invalid Unicode, and malformed cleaner data. Clipboard is now cleared automatically after shredding files via paste operations. Linux Added AppImage support. Added cleaners for Visual Studio Code, Codeium, Librewolf (.deb), Transmission (Flatpak), and Profanity. Improved Linux trash detection, including Snap-installed applications and mounted drives. Fixed Wayland root CLI issues and several Snap-related problems. Improved package dependencies, AppStream metadata, and desktop file handling. Fixed startup crashes when Python Requests is unavailable. Windows Fixed a security vulnerability that could allow arbitrary file deletion when cleaning with elevated privileges. Added %WindowsSystem% variable support. Improved clipboard clearing using native Windows APIs. Improved installer experience on unsupported Windows versions. Reduced installer size and improved application robustness. Fixed Unicode handling, filename anonymization, Git revision reporting, and splash screen stability. • DriversCloud 12.1.6 by Razvan Serea With DriversCloud (formerly My-Config.com), you can explore your computer easily, safely and free. The application quickly scans your PC and identifies the hardware and software components. DriversCloud then establishes a list of the different drivers compatible with your OS and hardware. Download the drivers needed for the proper functioning of your computer. To detect your drivers, DriversCloud also displays a detailed summary of your hardware and software configuration, analyzes your BSOD, monitors in real-time your PC voltages and temperatures and lets you share your configuration online. Once the hardware components have been detected, you will be able to obtain with just a few clicks the latest drivers corresponding to the identified hardware. You can record your configuration on the site for free, and can get the corresponding URL to post the configuration to technical forums, e-mail and social networks. You can also download the detection result (the configuration) as a PDF file. To protect the user's privacy and data confidentiality, a 4-level confidentiality system was created that filters the XML marks and gives control to the user. The default level can be modified in the preferences. Using the maximum level will prevent the user from publishing his configuration and generating a corresponding PDF file. In non-connected mode, each XML configuration is stored on the server for one day (for practical reasons). However, you are given the opportunity to manually delete it. Created in 2004, and continually improved, My-Config.com has established itself on the web as a free service to PC users running Windows and Linux operating systems. The service is designed to work with the most common Internet browsers (Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
