Nero Burning Rom Alternatives

Recommended Posts

Hi - can anyone tell me if there exists a freeware app for burning DVD files to DVD? I busted my balance buying ConvertXtoDVD (a brilliant app) but the DVD burning/Menu creating side of it isn't so great.

I suppose you can suggest a shareware one too but I'd rather not wait till next month ;)

And I don't want a studio; just one program to let me make menus and burn dvds (basically, i've just made a film using 3dstudiomax and converted it to DVD format and I want it burnt with menus and all that jazz).

yeah ive been looking through a few alternative as i couldnt unistall nero7 due 2 missing msi file which i cant find and it wont let me reinstall without removing last install!!so since then ive tried, 1.Alcohol 120 which gives u 6 virtual drives and is good 4 image files such such as,cue, bin etc!!but its not a dvd creator so u cant join titles or edit menus but still it has alot going 4 it worth checking out!!I ve also tried, 2.Roxio easy media creator 8 which does most of the things nero does exept i found trouble editing vcds as it has no features 2 support vcds and u canot import dat files from vcds mpeg2 files so there is no transfering vcd 2 dvd!ive also tried various other freeware and dvd editing software which all do good individual jobs but no complete package so im now using,Cyberlinks dvd solutions package which contians all cyber link products such as pwer dvd 7, power 2 go,power director and pwer producer, etc. it is a complete media suite,Also HAS A SWEET ANIMATED DVD MENU CREATOR and i havent had asmany bug issuse like i did with nero7. so give it a bash if all else fails :) PS. CHAOSBLADE if u download "daemaon tools"virtual drives for free of the net u cant mount ur images on this and use ur current dvd editing software in conjunction(just import the relivant files from daemons drives)

100 MB too much ?

I don't have anything against Alternative writing programs, but 100MB too much is just lame :pinch: .

Who has a problem storing a 100MB prog. nowadays? :| 100MB is nothing ;) I wouldn't mind if it would be 300MB

100MB was too much like 6-8 years back :p

No offence dudes n' gals peace.gif

But, yeah, I would give my vote for Ashampoo too :)

In harddisk space 100MB isn't much nowadays, but one should keep in mind that it's just a burning program, and 100MB is waaaaay too big for a burning program. Well, that's my opinion. 10 - 20 MB should be more than enough.

    • Nothing is stopping you from continuing with your testing cadence. If updates are released every 2 weeks instead of 4, and you test once every 4 weeks, the exact same amount of patches will still be available for you in those 4 weeks. For example: Before 4th week - patch 1, 2, 3, 4 After 2nd week - patch 1 and 2 4th week - patch 3 and 4 Still the same amount after 4.
    • Everyone else has said it. I'm gonna say it - you don't know what you're talking about. I do. I have two laptops. One work, one personal. I have access to two more laptops - both personal. At home I manually update my personal laptop when I see on Neowin that there is an update - I carry on and only apply the updates when I am ready. My work one only updates when my workplace decides to send it - I carry on and only apply the updates (when they actually arrive, which is usually days after the release) when I switch off the laptop at the end of the day as usual. The two other personal laptops only get updated when I get to it which is rarely - the people who own them carry on using them until I get to it and update them. All of the browsers on all laptops are configured to restore the tabs when launched. Google and Microsoft have changed from 6 weeks to 4, and it looks like it's going to move to 2. None of these changes affect how any of these browsers on the laptops are used. Not one jot. My advice to you is stop panicking whenever you see an update. Just carry on with what you're doing. This even benefits you in a way - from your comment you sound like you don't like the changes or the frivolous new features - great - then carry on as before!
    • AMAZON needs to take total accountability for this.
    • Server Summit had a heap of announcements, ADCS changes are baller.
    • Nice, hope they *finally* fixed the issue with the NTFS driver where the system would completely brick during large file copies using the built in driver. It's been broken for years requiring me to use the older, slower, NTFS-3G FUSE driver.
