[Shell Patcher] Tango Icons for Windows

Recommended Posts

Echo does look like a modernization of the old Bluecurve icons, which makes a lot of sense if you think about who's doing it ;)

But yeah, I don't really feel like it

My preferred way of playing with icons has always been to do all the editing and stuff to PNGs from PSP, GIMP, and Inkscape, and then to use @icon sushi to convert 'em. Aveiconifier uses that one PNG for all the sizes from 16x16 to 128x128, so I don't really think it's appropriate.

Speaking of which, Vertigosity, are you working on your webpage? It looks like it is under construction or something ;) . I think I'm going to throw together some Industrial and Gnome shell icons for everyone because we need them. Not now or soon but eventually. Is that okay?
I don't really use/need a webpage for much, so when it came time to renew I just let it lapse. The schedule I had the domain running on is two months off, so it'll be good until Feb, although I'm ready to move away from my silly thirteen-year-old "dark" thing. I'm planning to de-PHPize the documentation and include it with the patcher, but for now it's all still up on BobP's server (which, if you notice, all the links have been changed to for a month or so now :p) Edited by vertigosity

'Ey, Vert, I'm having some troubles with the iconpatcher. Every time I try to patch icons, it gives me an error saying the following:

Do you know what the problem is?

Okay, I converted all the pretty widdle OpenOffice PNGs to ICos and tried to apply them to the program using reshacker but for some reason they didn't want to stick because when I restarted my system, everything went back to the original icons. Damn. Oh well. Maybe the OOo developers will see the Tango icons and use them as default instead. The ones they have now are so weird looking.

Yeah, I liked the OOo 1.x ones better myself... the 2.x ones always struck me as having existed simply because they wanted to be more like MSO2k, with their "modern art line drawing" things... trying to establish a "brand experience" instead of just giving you a tool for the job. Kinda like Firefox, actually.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure you have to modify the versions in %windir%\installer\<OOo's CLSID> as well - I can't remember if it does binary reversions from there, or what, but I know I set the patcher up to modify those.

Oh, the patcher patches the OOo icons? Or does it just patch the file types? I don't want to open the installer and mess with things on Windows. I'd break something :p

hi, i have installed the package. but for some reason when my folder view is in thumbnail view the folder doesn't get displayed properly, ie. some are blue and some are the original icons :pinch:

How do I get to show the album art in full view like that?

How?

The file you need to modify should be this one:

C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\fsshext.8.0.0812.00.dll

Icon group 202... you'll see it, change it to the one provided in this thread... restart computer or use tweakui to repair/reload icons

That's the more permanent way, otherwise you should be able to right click and change the icon for the shortcut depending on where it's located

Yep, that's about it. AFAIK, MSN Mess. isn't protected by WFP, so you should be able to just exit the program, open it up in reshack, and save it. Reshack will even make a backup for you.

    • I'll wait for the root cause analysis. Looks like it's HP, Lenova, and certain configurations that are askew, hardly "all of windows." Time will tell.
    • Loading Topaz Photo AI freezes my system since this update...
    • I had issues with my NVME, it was running really slow (like 2/3 mb bandwidth) ... had to reverted via System Restore and all is fine now.
