For Total Commander

https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...amp;p=587993616<- that's the only thing that doesn't point to my now-defunct website. You're pretty much on your own for figuring out how it works, though.

I realize that Firefox 3 will probably be released shortly, and that people will start releasing themes, tango included. BUT, I've always preferred to do things myself, instead of having to download some other component. If you want to only change the various icons in Firefox, while still using the default theme, I have found the way!

I imagine the directory structure of Firefox 3 will be the same as Minefield. If it turns out that it's not, I'll come edit this post.

-------------------------------------------

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Minefield\chrome, copy the file classic.jar and go paste it in some other folder so you can play with it. Rename it to classic.zip and extract it. Inside this new folder, you will find a folder named skin, and 2 images (icon.png and preview.png - you see these in the theme preview box).

All of the images that you want to edit are in \skin\classic\browser, the most important ones are Toolbar-small.png and Toolbar.png because those are the main toolbar images that you will be seeing most often. Open up those images and edit them however you want. I replaced them with the appropriate Tango icons, making sure to alter a bit for state changes (normal, hover, dead, pressed).

NOTE: Vista toolbar images are in \skin\classic\aero\browser!

When you are done editing images, it's now time to repack them.

Go back to your main theme folder and highlight the skin directory, and those 2 .png images, and then add them to a new .zip archive. You MUST preserve the directory sctucture! When you go to open your .zip, you should only see the skin directory and the 2 images, NOT the entire theme folder.

Rename the .zip into classic.jar. A confirmation dialogue will pop up asking whether you really want to change the file extension, click YES.

Close Firefox and go back to C:\Program Files\Minefield\chrome and replace the classic.jar in there with your new one. You may want to keep a safe copy of the original somewhere.

Keep in mind that if you do an update, that your edited classic.jar might get reverted to the original, so you'll have to replace it again.

Below are my toolbar images for you to copy.

So I went ahead and created a couple new Tango icons for my own needs, and I figure some others might get some use from this as well. These are my first icons of any type, much less for the Tango project, so some critique would be useful if it is warrented. All icons are 48x48, ICO and SVG versions are available too.

Disclaimer: Some icons are modified versions of existing ones. I know this might not be kosher, but...it worked. SweepRAM, CCleaner, and to a small extent the Database icon fall into this category, so original credits still go to their authors.

Database/Repository, Surround SCM, SweepRAM, CCleaner, TestTrack, Foobar2000

Can also find them on my DeviantArt: http://darkobra.deviantart.com/

Maybe this question has been answered a lot of times... but 185 pages are too much reading: This patch changes ONLY the icons and some resources? Because I like the icons, but also my own visual style and I want to keep it.

Thanks in advance,

-Rodrigo

i downloaded this and it seemed way too intense. i kept getting spyware detection and loading times for the start bar were horrendous. the icons must be graphically intensive. it took my 1 year old laptop 30 seconds to load the control panel icons from the start menu. :(

SP3 is really near, are we going to have some update for it?
Probably - nothing too fancy, just new comctl32.dll locations, and swaps for some of those nasty icons I drew way back in the day (totem for wimp, and the winamp icon somebody found earlier in the thread for my less awesome doodling).

I noticed that the Thunderbird icon is not available in STTP. I know I could simply reshack it but is there any chance you can put it in? I am however just asking and if you feel it's not necessary, I understand.

    • Linux 7.1 arrives with an NTFS overhaul and major hardware performance boosts by Paul Hill The founder of the Linux kernel has just announced the availability of Linux 7.1. This is a stable version of the kernel that will now be tested by various Linux distributions before it is shipped to users through update managers. Some users, like those on Debian, for example, might not get it for a long time, if at all, while Fedora users can expect it in the near future. With Linux 7.1 out on time, the merge window for Linux 7.2 is now open, giving contributors the opportunity to send in major new features that have been waiting for the last two months. Torvalds warned that he is currently travelling and will be in another timezone, so timing for the merge window may be irregular due to timezone differences and limited internet access. Torvalds said that he has already fetched early pull requests to allow him to do some offline work, but the travel could still cause disruption. Right now, he is not planning to extend the release, but did consider it. He said he might later regret not extending, though. In terms of this last week of development for Linux 7.1, Torvalds said there were no major or alarming changes. This week consisted mostly of smaller driver updates to GPU, networking, and sound, networking fixes, trace tooling fixes, and misc minor fixes. The shortlog this week lists fixes for driver bugs, memory leaks, I/O and USB fixes, networking and RDMA fixes, DRM/graphics fixes, and tooling and verification improvements. Specific fixes include USB series heap-overflow and buffer overflow fixes, and multiple use-after-free, memory-leak, and refcount corrections across subsystems such as i2c, zram, gpio, and net. There are fixes for graphics drivers, including amdgpu, i915, and virtio, as well as hypervisor and virtualization tweaks affecting mshv, vmbus, and hyperv. According to Phoronix, anyone running Linux 7.1 should look out for the new NTFS driver, Intel FRED for improved performance on Panther Lake and future CPUs, faster graphics with Intel Arc Battlemage, and improvements for older AMD Radeon GPUs. If you are running Linux on your computer and everything is fine, then you don’t need to worry about updating to Linux 7.1 as a priority; just wait for it to be pushed to you. If you have tried Linux on hardware but it didn’t work properly, trying again with a distro that uses Linux 7.1 could cause Linux to work on your machine, thanks to the new hardware support.
    • you can also do this with this tool: PowerSettingsExplorer made by mbk1969 at 3dguru forum.. I found it by accident researching on modern standby and annoying quirks of it in 2022
