Honda S2000

lol, yeah, I'd hate to have a car that uses a Porsche for inspiration.

But the MR 2 (Spyder, same thing) has been around longer than the Boxster. Just, in a slightly different form.

They run around $25k, I believe?

And Chick, how big is the storage space, exactly? My dad has been looking at them, but he's worried that he won't be able to fit anything in it.

Ironically we were talking about the mr2 today @ school..and I told some chick that it was 30-40k...o well

Hi, I'm new here (been lurking for ages, however :),

Just wanted to say that I adore the S2000. I currently own a '2k Boxster, but if I were to do it all over again, I'd have gotten the S2000 - good luck!

If that's the 2002 model I've got that exact same car (color and all) parked in my garage. It makes a great vehicle to sport around town in my time off. It also attracts a lot of attention, people stare vacantly, and every idiot with a tip on his exhaust wants to race. I've been semi under the impression that the majority of the gawkers are more so trying to figure out how a guy my age (22 next week) can afford such a sweet ride. I personally have had mine for a little over a month now and love it. The only thing I'll say is bad about the car is the fact that it is only capable of holding (400 lbs - the weight of 2 passengers) and some of my taller friends can't even begin to sit comfortably in the driver seat, the stearing wheel is not adjustable. Luckily I'm neither tall or wide.

They just issued the first recall on the 2002 model earlier this week they say the sparkplugs need to be changed out because they may come loose and cause the engine to misfire causing the check engine light to come on on the front panel display.

;)

Thought I'd add the front headlight are the real nice halogen variety, they really light up the rode. Last time I checked the boxster still has standard headlights (at least the ones I've seen in town.)

Thanks for the welcome.

I paid $38 for it (used) back in April - a sort of birthday present to myself. It barely had 18k miles on it - came with upgraded steering wheel (three spoke), fog lights, upgraded stereo (which I had overhauled anyway, piece by piece, as it sounded awful!), upgraded suspension kit, and tiptronic (I get a LOT of crap for this - but I defend my decision, because traffic here in NJ is awful!). I love the car dearly and disagree with much of the criticism given to it by people who have not even driven one, but there are far better "bangs for the buck" out there. After *briefly* driving an S2000 owned by a girl in one of my classes, I was cursing myself for taking the plunge without evaluating other cars first (what can I say, that golden crest had me captivated) - had I done so, I'd have an S2000 in the garage now. Ultimately, though, it always comes down to a matter of preference.

I'am in a lazy mood too, get off your a*s and look it up than take a large loan to buy a real Porsche instead of a Boxster! My kid already graduated from MIT with a PHD.

For everyone else, I drive a 2000 Spyder that was one of the first of this series. If I remember correctly sticker was around 23K, but at that time the dealers were getting a considerable amout above sticker. Even today some dealers are taking bids above sticker to see who gets the next model in as dealers are limited how many they can get. I believe there are only 5000 made a year and can only speak for my part of the country.

threetonesun, tell your Dad that if he plans on putting actual hard sided luggage behind the seats, forget about it and the truck will hold an attache case, provided it doesn't weigh more than 13 pounds! Good news is if he packs in small duffle bags and puts a little thought into it he and your Mother will have no problem going away for a weekend and he will probably postpone the need for Viagra for at least the life of the car.

You know, you can get the Toyota MR 2 with paddle shifters now...and get it with a blue body and white seats, or red and green, or all sorts of cool color combinations.

Plus, in 1.5 years the 350Z will be around, and maybe even the Evo...

and maybe the new Skyline :D :) (R35)

Here's to that.

Just get a GTR Skyline and be done with it, the GTR is the king of Japanese motors.

...I didn't want to mention it before seeing as we're supposed to be discussing S2000s but seeing as everyones talking about MR2s and Boxsters... :p

You don't like the Skylines? I have a Top Gear video where the guy runs the built in g-meter in the Skyline, then tries to pull 1g positive, negative, and lateral. It's very cool, the car just barely gets out of control.

I don't know if there are any changes upcoming for the S2000 or MR2. Probably minor, if any.

But the king of the Japanese motor industry? Right here: www.swrt.com

All performance JDM cars were stricted to 280hp for maximum power. However, the Nissan Skyline R34 GTR when it was released for the first time actually does have the real 340hp but only written as 280hp on the specification sheet just to get the Japanese government happy.

More and more performance cars will break the 280hp rule imposed by Japanese government. It'll happen sooner :D

you can only get GTRs in Japan though :(

as for Torque in the S200, LOL, 0-60 in 5.2 sec, who the FU[K cares about tourqe, as for turbos in this high RPM car- NO WAY, thats one way to void your warnty and severly degrade its value... As for reliablity, HONDA is king.... as for a suitable match for the S2000, well there is the porsche Boxster... cost about 10k more, and is slower and insurence is WAY higher...

bottom line, S2000....

however, nissian is making a new Z and Mazda is making an RX8 (wich the rotery engine kinda scares me) but each WILL be compeating against the S2000. 280+ bhp and sub 5.5sec 0-60 times... each have a "backseat" that is hardly noticeable... as in VERY small.... personaly, when I graduate, I will be chooseing between s2k, Z, and RX8.... right now Honda is squezing out the Z by VERY little....

Thats where importing comes in. In Japan by law have to replace certain components after 3 years, often they decide to sell their cars rather than replace components. There is a growing inport industry in Australia, not sure about the US...

iCe_2x?:

Deviant ur 22..and people are wondering..then how about a 16-17 year old ?

Personally if I saw a 16-17 year old driving a car like mine I'd imagine his/her parents must spoil him/her rotten. I work long hard days and nights, designing software to afford that car:ermm:m:

RSX is VERY SLOW ... Type R is not, for 20k$ you could get a used 3rd Gen Integra, and a spoon motosports type R engine, some white rims, and the proper asthectis
