Do not inform the thread that you just reported a post

Recommended Posts

Ok. Its great that people are using the report function more and more... it helps a ton.. :)

But when reporting somebody... don't post that you reported them. I mean seriously... think about it in the real world... are you going to walk up to somebody stealing a car and say... oh btw... I called the cops on you. You'd probably get shot.

Common sense people... report the post and be done with it... don't dwell on it. We will take care of the rest.

Telling somebody you reported their posts leads to flames, arguments, and more rule breakage

Thanks

shockz

Edit: Update: Please don't report typos, spelling, or grammatical errors. (Unless its a news article)

Those aren't rule breaking issues, and are a waste of time for staff to sort through.

Thank you.

what if you let the reporter know you reported them.

how would they know you reported them? you would have to tell them you reported them for them to find out you actually did report them.

I dont see why people cant post that they reported someone/thing. If i see a post that isnt good, i will report it, sometimes say i have. If i have, its a guide for others not to bother as a mod has been told.

What should be stopped is the people flamming and saying "why you report my thread". There the ones your after! I suppose though, there the bad people who wont stop doing the wrong thing. So the good people (reporters ;)) will get knocked down again and again.

Hmmm, I have to disagree with you here. In quite a lot of cases, putting "reported" in to a thread could almost be classed as flame-bait. If you know you'll probably end up being flamed for posting it, why bother? At the end of the day, the moderation team do a great job here, and if the thread or post warrants being moderated, then it will be - posting about it is not going to make a difference other than potentially get a few nasty words fired in your direction, and getting a +1 on your post count...

Humm.

I suppose i agree, it can spark off flames its self, but as i said, people should do so. But i suppose again, the reporters should post it, it jsut causes havoc.

If i post reported i usally say why, or express my opinion (on the matter). Unless its something i dont have a opinion on, and it would proberly cause more trouble.

But, the mods want to reported's anymore, so i will stop completly. If they feel its more annoying than helpful, so be it

Of course the other thing that it does is just attract more attention to the thread in question. A good example is the good ol' fashion spam post. The more people who post "Spam" and "Reported" in the thread, the more attention it gets due to the number of posts going with it - it'll keep appearing in the list on the front page.

More attention for spam = more people who could possibly fall for it.

Im a big fan of reporting threads - I also post that the thread has been reported to inform other viewers of it that it has already been done.

Sometimes when a thread is reported, nothing is done, or if a thread is reported and not posted as such, it can grow to quite a few pages and people will be replying saying 'omgwtfbbq why hasnt this been reported yet'.

Glad we have a stance on this officially now, but I agree with the other poster above a few that says we only did it to inform others.

I'm glad this has been said I'm sick of the wanabe mods trying to be complete suck ups it just looks imature, report the thread by all means if it breaks the rules but don't go +1 and go reported :)

Lol... now that you say this It look stupid sometime...

BUT the most useless is (And I think you should warn thoses that do this):

+1 Before the close...

Anyway...

[Post Reported] :p

But when reporting somebody... don't post that you reported them.

Well wouldn't it make since for one person to post "reported", this way 40 people dont end up reporting it, just the one that say they reported it. If I read that it has been "Reported" then I can say well its been reported no need for me to do it?

No... like I said... we can group the reports very quickly. It doesn't create a problem.

It can be helpful to know that 40 people objected to the content rather than just a single person.

Well said, getting sick of the people posting 'reported' and acting all smug :|

Agreed. The whole reported thing got old a long time ago, and really it merely serves to inflame an already hostile environment.

Although maybe it precludes others from also reporting the same post. Otherwise, you might get 10 reports of the same post, thus spamming the mod forum.

Ah, good point I suppose.

Posts like this too: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?show...#entry587233466

I may have just done something to this thread that I apparently cant post about because it is seen as spam, but due to the content of what has gone before I dont think it will matter.

If you know what I have done then dont post again saying that you have done it because it has been done.

The Moderators will get a secret message in their special forum about this thread.

Good Eeeeevening.

Don't do that. Thanks.

Posting Reported... doesn't add to the topic and it is essentially spamming so we reserve the right to crack down on it without notice if we feel that it is becoming a pervasive problem that needs to be culled.

    • 25th anniversary Xbox Series X unveiled with classic translucent green design by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The Xbox Games Showcase had a new Xbox console reveal from Microsoft celebrating the gaming brand turning 25 years old. This is to be a new limited edition Xbox Series X and controller collection that draws on the design of the rare green version of the original Xbox console. The "XBOX Series X25 Limited Edition" is coming out later this year with its matching controller. "Inspired by the look and feel of the original XBOX console, both the console and controller feature a translucent OG Green design, with subtle tributes to the journey we’ve been on together," said Microsoft in the announcement. The Xbox Series X|S line has received several new variants over the years, but this will be the first edition with a translucent design. The Xbox Series X25 will have one terabyte of internal storage and a green light on the X to signify the console lines' history. There is a 25th anniversary logo printed on the front plate. Microsoft is also teasing that the community will be able to find "a few hidden surprises throughout" the machine as well. As for the new X25 Special Edition Xbox controller, this is also coming with the classic translucent green design for its front and back plates. "From the original ABXY colors, to the timeless green, every detail calls back to the beginning, including the bumpers honoring the original black and white buttons on the original “Duke” controller," says the company about this release. "The back case and battery door are fully transparent, revealing the classic XBOX logo." The XBOX 25th anniversary collection, containing both the translucent console and controller, will be available for purchase in November 2026 as a limited-edition release. Microsoft will be offering the new XBOX Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition separately as well. Pricing details and pre-order information will be coming later.
