[Contest] $100 for Site Layout and Logo

Question

Uptifree.com Contest:

The past couple weeks I have been redesigning the entire backend of the site. Now that its just about done, its time for the front end. I'm not any good with graphic design, so I thought I would offer the opportunity for someone to make some money!!!

Payment:

Winner will receive $100.

Payment will be made via PayPal Only.

Guidlines:

Try to keep things simple.

Nothing hard to navigate.

Currently, I'm open to all color schemes. As long as it's not bright pink/lime green, etc.

Must be original, no copycat designs.

Must have spaces for Google ads.

Winner must be willing to help with other pages on the site (besides initial index page).

No coding required. This is for the images only.

Timeframe:

This contest will end on Tuesday March 7th, 2006 at 9:00 AM PST. At that time, no further entries will be accepted.

Picking the Winner:

Once the contest is over (see above), I will start a poll. At that time Neowin members will be able to vote for their favorite design. This does not guarantee that the most voted design will win, as I will pick the winner but the poll will weigh heavily on my decision.

Current Mockup:

Here is the current mockup of the redesign. So keep this in mind when making your design.

Final Words:

Good luck to all, and may the best design win!

Updates...

  • Changed the design for the ads.
  • Made some mockups of an idea for the login. Click them, they're animated. They're meant to be smoother and quicker, and the gif comperssion makes them look a bit low quality. (They show what should happen when you lick the 'login' link on the banner)

Nice changes spex04, I like that much better. I'm not sure about an animated login box. A static one should be fine. I haven't decided if I actually want to do that yet.

Cyco and Long could you both add a spot for news somewhere in your design?

The idea with the boring vs upload button is to make the eyes find it easier so I kept them dull, added news and google ad space.

Thank you for making those changes.

I know there is at least 1 more person wanting to enter a design. With these great designs we already have, I'm not sure how much longer this contest will go on for. If you are wanting to enter, you need to either let me know or get something submitted! :D

Cyco, Long, mail, spex04, sundayx and .xs, do any of you actually do any html coding? Or do you just do graphics?

I have done before, but that was a long time ago. I'm sure I could put something together though (Y)

About the animated login, I thought of that because I didn't know where else to put a login box without it getting in the way. I suppose you could just stick it on the page somewhere though.

Good point. Maybe it would just get in the way. So, for now lets just say no login box. :)

I suppose not. I only wanted to add some things here and there to help the search engines index the site more. However, you guys are right, the more I think about it, the more I don't think it's really necessary.

Thanks for your submissions urge. :) If I think of anything I'll let you know.

Edit: I think when I close the contest, we will have a poll and see what design gets the most votes. :)

I agree, it's too confusing having different versions of design, and completely different designs spliced across like 5 pages. A locked poll (talk to the mods) with a seperate discussion topic would be perfect, IMO.

Yes, and thats what will be done once we get everyone's entries in. :) I don't think the poll needs to be locked though or have a seperate discussion topic. We can keep the post open for comments, but I will not allow further entries at that time.

I need a final say on color from you, I dont know which subtle colors your into... :o but I guess thats part of being a designer? :)

I would say, out of your designes, I like the blue color the best. :)

Edit: The buttons and text boxes need to be a lot smaller. I would change their size. And maybe use a different image host for posting them. ;)

    • This is about the already discredited 2025 announcement. Not the current one, which I've heard nothing negative about in the academic literature.
    • So, for $60 we got GTA 5 WITH online. Now for $80, we get a game missing areas (shops locked to the $100 version) and no online. Progress!
