The Official NDS Homebrew Thread

so.. has anyone found any more info on the DSLink?

something a little official maybe?

Expect an announcement within a few days on the DSLink.

A couple real pics of the M3 Lite have been posted. Looking nice. I still don't like the fact that it's a side loader though. Like the G6, I would expect it to be available in multiple colors.

Thanks to all that have been helping with the thread. I simply don't have time (or energy) to keep it all up to date right now. Next month will be back to normal for me though ;)

out of curiousity...why would I consider the M3 over the SuperCard Lite?

Well, that's personal preference, but the M3 has slightly better GBA backup compatibility and a nice, costomizable GUI loader such as this custom vista one (a lot of the buttons in this theme aren't functional and are just for looks): overallscreensia8.jpg

The Supercard has a simple, text based loader, but it is a little over half of the price of the M3. So basically you have to decide if the extras the M3 brings are worth the extra cash to you.

can you show me some screenshots of the SuperCard Lite bootloader?

Also, is it possible for a firmware upgrade to ever make the SCLite have a gui?

Not much to show. It's just text on a white background ;) The bottom screen is black with the Supercard logo there.

As far as firmware update, it's not possible. The Supercard's firmware isn't large enough. I and a few other people have been bugging Romman for a long time now to make it so we can auto load a custom GUI loader as an alternative. So far, no luck. Hopefully one day he will give in and do it. You can e-mail him too and add your voice to the requests if you want as well. The more people that bug him about it, the better ;)

One quick thing I wanted to add about the DSLink is since it's the first card of it's kind, we don't know how homebrew compatibility will be with it. It could very well be that nothing at all will work with it at first and developers will have to make special versions for it. So if you don't have a cart and want to get right into homebrew, it may not be the choice for you at this point. If you already have a cart and want the DSLink, I would suggest hanging onto your current card for a while after you get the DSLink so you can still use all your apps until they are updated. Also, now that this tech is out, expect Supercard and M3 to copy it and release their own within months. Oh, the ever evolving DS scene. The Lite carts just came out :p

Another update for you guys (I have the day off tomorrow, so I'm able to stay up late and catch up on things, weeeeee!!! ).

It was only a matter of time, but Doom has been ported to the DS with Wifi support. No touch screen controls right now, but they will be added in a future release. I haven't tried it yet, but apparently it can be tough to get running. Get it here, and get help running it here.

The fact is most people in HK don't care about the warranty, because DS isn't officially released in HK yet.

Actually you are quite wrong there.. in HK i can buy a DS Lite already flashed with 18 months warranty from the shop. and they do honour it from other peoples experience. whereas if i buy a DS Lite from a legal retailer non-flashed i get 1 year from nintendo, obviously that is more convenient though.

Anyway DS Doom looks pretty sweet with wifi support, could be great fun to play this oldy with friends, especially for those of us who grew up with it :) touchscreen controls for weapon selection would be awesome!

hello!

im new to all these homebrew thingy but im really interested to start.

ive read thru the entire thread and i think i might have quite a good idea of wats going on already! :)

i have just one qn to ask before i make my purchase tho,

do all the nds flash cards have an internal batt like original gba carts?

i know for sure that m3 does because its website says so and cos it can run games RTC.

what about the other flash carts? does SC, G6 etc... also have internal batt that will run out?

which ones dont?

thanks for thaking your time to read this! =)

so has it been confirmed that the DSLink will only work with flashed DS's or is that just heresay?

no official news about that as yet - just speculations.

a rumor (that I personally like) is that there will be 2 versions: one with a passme and one with out.

clearly... the one with the passme function will cost more. but worth it (IMO).

Does anyone know of a Map application for the DS. I was looking for something that is possibly zoomable.

None as of yet. Your best bet is to find a high detail .jpg or something and just use a picture viewer to view it.

Another DS flash cart has been announced. This one does have a Nopass built in. It has 512MB built in memory and hooks up directly to your PC via USB.

It's being developed by a newly assembled team called "DS-X" which have had a lot of previous experience in the console hacking business.

The DS Xtreme boasts some very impressive features that could easily knock all other current flash kits out of the water.

What are its main features? Let's take a look:

  • Runs completely from the DS slot - No GBA cart required,
  • No PassMe, WiFiMe, FlashMe required,
  • No need for external memory,
  • No additional hardware required,
  • 4Gbit (512MB) of built-in onboard flash memory,
  • USB Plug 'n' Play - shows as a standard drive - drag and drop,
  • High-speed USB 2.0 connection (mini-B connector),
  • No software/patching required,
  • Hardware and firmware are fully upgradeable,
  • Compatible with ALL current and future DS consoles,
  • Full sized onboard EEPROM,
  • Same size as a standard DS game cartridge - does NOT stick out.

We will have more information in the coming days. And I can tell you that pre-orders for the DS Xtreme will be possible in the next couple of weeks! (Keep your eye on divineo.com)

Hopefully GBAtemp.net will be recieving a prototype sample in the coming weeks, so we hope to tell you even more information about this new product!

Be sure to keep your eyes on http://www.gbatemp.net

the flash cart from DS-X, does it only have on-board memory?

I didn't see anything said about aditional memory. If they don't offer that option, that could be something that will hold them down.

I'm still looking at the DSLink, but I'll keep my eyes on the DS-X flashcart as well ;)

I asked this in a PM to one of you, but if any of you can help, please do...

I just got my SuperKey and SuperCard Lite...but what am I supposed to do to get this thing going?

I boot up with the 1GB MicroSD in there and all I get is a white bottom screen with the SuperKey logo in the top screen, and it just sits there. What I am supposed to do initiall?

put the SuperKey in the NDS slot, put the SuperCard Lite into the GBA slot, put the ROMs (.nds if homebrew, .dsq+.sav if backups) into the microSD card and then put the microSD card into the SuperCard. turn on DS. enjoy :)

That is exactly what I said I was doing in my post...and the problem is it just sits there with a white screen on bottom and the SuperKey logo on the top screen...but I can't do anything.

    • Stopped using Windows as my main workflow. Migrated completed to Linux. Been happier than a clam without a single issue nor windows annoyance. Leaving Windows has shown me the light at the end of the tunnel, or rather I went through the tunnel and I'm already at the light.
    • AirPods Pro 3 are now available for only $179 by Taras Buria Apple's third-gen AirPods Pro 3 introduced a few important upgrades over the previous generation while retaining the old $249 price. Still, that is quite a lot of money for a pair of earbuds, but the good news is that right now, you can save quite a lot of money on them, thanks to a new all-time low price. AirPods Pro 3 retain their classic look and form factor, with changes focused on the inside. These earbuds now come with five sets of foam-silicone tips, which sit much more securely in your ear, making the earbuds a perfect choice for physical activities and workouts. Additionally, new tips provide better passive noise cancellation. Speaking of noise cancellation, ANC is now much better at blocking outside noise, with Apple claiming the AirPods Pro mute up to two times more sound than the AirPods Pro 2. The AirPods Pro 3 also have heart rate sensors for activity tracking during workouts. They also support Live Translation and Hearing Aid mode. As for battery life, you get up to 8 hours on a single charge, with the case adding 20 more. The case supports wireless (Qi or Apple Watch charger) and wired charging over USB Type-C (cable not included). • Everything I have read is that the BBC is still Pro Doctor Who but wants a solid plan before they let anyone else try to do it. Which is fair.
    • I totally agree no one should trust governments AND big tech companies that have near monopolies in certain market segments. The difference is of course citizens at least have some say in government. Yes, requiring Apple to open up Sirsi to other AI backends is in the interest of EU customers and certainly "opens" up the platform a crack. What are you saying? I wish the US would regulate tech companies more here and even break them up in some cases. Granted trusting the government to do it right is a crap shot at best but what is the alternative? To allow a few tech companies to continue to run everything and just print money? It's crazy to me for example that in most of the world 99% of communications go thru Facebook servers via WhatsApp. What kind of dystopian world are we living in?
    • You can.. make sure you have ADB tools on whatever OS you are running, plug your phone into your PC give it approval to talk to the phone then run this command. adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.chrome So long as you leave Android Webview untouched it wont break anything on your Phone to do this. I have been using exclusively Firefox mobile since it was released.
