So you have to log-on to their server to be able to use it? Is it going to be that way when(or rather, if) it's complete too? If so that's a really bad idea imo. If their server goes down for whatever reason you can't IM or do anything.

Just to let everyone know, I've been testing Astra for the last few releases now, and I have no problems with it remembering the passwords for my accounts.

Also, the RSS reader at the top of the chat windows is there as a new feature to test. The developers have already said that in the final version it will be able to be disabled as well as possibly use custom RSS feeds. It's just on all the time right now because that's what they want testers to test. This is an early alpha build, and designed to specifically test certain features for bugs and not 100% representative of how the final will function.

Remembering passwords works fine for me. If you're in the group of alpha testers, then bug it. Otherwise, don't complain when it doesn't work the way you want. I happen to think Astra is awesome as well. I just gotta port some of my Trillian 3 skins to it now (as well as some new ideas)...

to be honest, it's been ages since they released Trillian 3.1 and Astra being in Alpha now, I'm sorry but I'm done with Trillian. It's slow as ass, many things are not using full technologies from their protocols like AIM, MSN, Yahoo. I'm switching to Yahoo Vista Messenger when it comes out which is SOON and running AIM separately so I'll have 2 apps, whoopdy doo. And Cerulian Studio can take their SWEET ass time coding their Astra. By the time they release it, we'll be on another operating system. Seriously.

QFT. The development time on this chat program is insane.

if the msn messenger server or the yahoo server, etc... goes down..... would you not be able to log in and use the service?

Slightly offtopic:

Having seen screenshots, I wish someone would port AdiumX to the PC. I know it's built on Gaim. But: The user interface is much better than the Gaim interface will ever be.

Even Trillian lacks UI-wise compared to AdiumX imho.

I have a question for you, what do you need that computer for? Quad core? Dual 8800 GTS superclocked? What could possibly require something that powerfull?

wow they cant even get me alpha access to my PRO login

sent a complaint after 2 apps to test it

waiting....

for windows Vienna!!!! ppffff

These guys are completely ridiculous. They state that preference will be given to pro members, and those that had originally sent him email months ago before the signups went up. AFTER THAT it's supposed to get to those people that signed up from the blog. I did all of the above and have been a Pro member since 2004, and I have gotten nothing at all.

My friend who signed up much later than I did, never emailed, and has only been a Pro member for a month got an invite already. We already have to wait forever for updates, it's too much when they go and **** on those of us who bought their program years ago and signed up early by doing this.

I think he's saying that they seem to be adding another potential failure point unnecessarily. Unless they are creating their own chat protocol, just route the AIM/ICQ/Y!/IRC/whatever through that service's servers and be done with it.

Meh. Gaim always crashes on me anyways, I don't think AdiumX wouldn't.

What i'm saying is if they make it so you have to log-in to their servers to use the program at all, which is how this thread sounded earlier, it's a bad idea. Cause if their servers go down you cant chat on anything, regardless of the status of the actual services servers(aim, msn, etc).

^ wow

True... but much appreciated ;)

Warning - leaked Astra build is infected with trojan

Duh they want you to think that, but honestly with out a account on Trillian it will not save your passwords for the pluggins unless you cross them with crippled 3.1 plugins, then the point of a new trillian is done. But it's great if you dont restart it alot

The leaked builds that have been going around are completely virus free, I'm not sure what they were referring to in that post.

Hope everyone gets a chance to download this and check it out, it should have been a public alpha from the start, damn CS elitists.

    • You are clueless. The updates are done in the background so the next time you open Edge the updates are applied automatically. There is no need to close all your tabs. Just keep browsing like you normally do. Clearly you don't use Edge and are just one of those haters that complain for the sake of complaining.
    • I don't get this David. Can you explain it please.
    • Microsoft is busy. Lots of changes to be released imminently for Windows server or soon. Also, lots happening for next version as well. Third party virus scanning software is being moved out of Kernel mode to avoid repeat of Crowdstrike incident. Windows Protected Mode and Windows Ready Print no longer require third party print drivers to be installed. New storage stack being developed. New NVME drivers now available for Windows Server 2025 to improve local NVME drive performance by 60+ percent. NVME-Of of fabric being worked on for next release to improve network access to NVME drives. ReFs (next file system) now has ability to boot and will become default file system in next release of Windows Server. ReFs improves on NTFS in several areas including resiliency and reliability and scalability. New update stack is being worked on to unify Windows updates, and updates for drivers and first party/3rd party application software. A stricter and more robust third-party driver certification program (ODI) is being worked on to improve performance, thermals, battery life, and reliability on modern Windows hardware by tightening how OEMs and IHVs (Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, etc.) build and ship drivers. There is a tone more but too numerous to mention.
