Youtube video of a new feature they are working on...

Their reasons behind the closed testing are well-founded IMHO... as long as you think about it from a development standpoint and what they are actually doing it all makes sense.

It's amazing how upset some people are getting over an instant messenger, some of you people need to get a life. Given the amount of stupidity in this thread it's no wonder why Astra alpha testing isn't public. It has been 2 years since 3.1 was released and 7 since the first version of Trillian was made public. Astra is a complete rewrite, if you can do the math that is well over 5 years of work in just over 2.

Its all cool and all, but cant they release a version now and let the web interface come in later revisions...like utorrent of sorts....why not do that?

That's like half-ass releasing a game and patching it later. It's not good for developers or consumers. Some things are better when you wait.

I disagree, I'd rather have it sooner and they can fix things after. I hate when companies hold off on releasing things forever just because there are some issues that some people may not even care about.

That first part sounds like EA.

How'd you know?!?! :p

When you start getting that mentality, you'll eventually become prone to releasing products early for the sake of money and having quality ride in the back seat. And what happens if those fixes never come? Do you screw the consumer that needs them?

People stop buying your products and you go out of business?

I tried one of the alphas and frankly it just felt like trillian 3 with a new skin, it didn't feel that special, and most of the menus are in the same place like the preferences.

Duh they want you to think that, but honestly with out a account on Trillian it will not save your passwords for the pluggins unless you cross them with crippled 3.1 plugins, then the point of a new trillian is done. But it's great if you dont restart it alot
The leaked builds that have been going around are completely virus free, I'm not sure what they were referring to in that post.

Hope everyone gets a chance to download this and check it out, it should have been a public alpha from the start, damn CS elitists.

Just another scare tactic trying to discourage people from using the build. The build they referred to was one labeled as Build 31 (which actually turned out to be Build 32) and included an IRC plugin. No viruses were found by my Kaspersky AV.

Just another RIAA/MPAA style scare tactic. They just want to feel all exclusive because they have the alphas and you dont and they want to keep it that way. Just go onto a torrent search engine and search Trillian Astra...it aint exclusive no more.

Thats just how private betas work...you invite the wrong guy and it goes out on Torrent/Usenet. Cry about it.

Trillian Astra should have been public from the onset as Xab said. No point in exclusivity.

There actually was a fake one with a trojan. The one with the IRC plug-in came after and was different.

In any case, just got my invite. I'm assuming they are expanding the testing field a big deal now since I didn't sign-up near when it opened.

That's a good thing, people are already comfortable with the user interface and some even think that Astra is on par with the last major release. :) I'm not sure if you're a developer but one of the biggest reasons for the rewrite was refactoring. Because of the refactoring Trillian is now easier to extend, performs better and uses less resources, and is portable to other operating systems such as Linux. The second of which can be seen in Astra but the other two will be transparent until the remaining features are implemented.

  • 3 months later...
I f it kind of ironic that the iPhone's Astra web app's GUI looks much nicer than the desktop version's, imo at least. I hope the desktop version will feature such a compact mode as well.

It kind of looks like the Cobalt skin they already included as the minimalistic option.

    • When will the Photos app be updated to remember the window size and position when reopened? They addressed this issue in a 2024 version of the app (though I can't recall the build number). Unfortunately, after that specific version, the problem persists! Please prioritise this fix in your K2 schedule. Additionally, the Snipping Tool has lost the ability to capture the Windows Taskbar starting from the 2024 version!
    • Same, never saw it on Android or iOS. Guess only some people got it *shrugs*
    • Anthropic pulls Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after US export control order by Pradeep Viswanathan In April this year, Anthropic launched the Claude Mythos Preview frontier model with state-of-the-art cyber and coding capabilities for a select set of companies around the world. After preparing appropriate guardrails, early this week, Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, its most capable AI models. Claude Fable 5 is for general users and comes with strict safeguards, while Mythos 5 is designed with fewer safeguards for cybersecurity and biology use cases. Today, Anthropic abruptly suspended access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 AI models for all customers after receiving an export control directive from the US government. The company received the directive from the government today at 5:21 p.m. ET, and the received letter did not provide any details regarding the national security concern. Anthropic understands that the government became aware of a method to bypass, or “jailbreak,” Fable 5, which might be the reason behind the directive. The order was issued under national security authorities and requires the company to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether they are inside or outside the United States. The restriction also applies to foreign national employees working at Anthropic. As a result, the company has disabled both models for all customers to ensure compliance. Access to previous Anthropic models like Opus and Sonnet is not affected by this government order. The company highlighted that it had developed strong safeguards to reduce the possibility that Fable is misused for tasks related to cybersecurity. In fact, many developers are complaining that the safeguards are going overboard. Additionally, the company worked with the US government, the UK AISI, multiple private third-party organizations, and internal teams to red-team Fable’s safeguards for thousands of hours. Finally, Anthropic noted that no testers have yet been able to find a universal jailbreak on Fable 5. As expected, Anthropic disagrees that a narrow potential jailbreak should lead to the recall of a commercial model used by hundreds of millions of people. It warned that applying this standard across the AI industry could effectively halt new frontier model deployments. Anthropic concluded by mentioning that it is working to restore access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 as soon as possible and plans to share more details within the next 24 hours.
