"We're referecing places like [parts of] Estonia - there are trees, riverbeds, old mines, and eventually, we'll take you to an abandoned missile site. There are lots of cool, crusty old places that are fun for the player to explore - and they already look like Half-Life." I'll feel just like in home, lol :p
macrosslover
If anyone wants to buy it and not use Steam, Best Buy is offering the retail for $7.99. circuit city is also selling it for that price through Saturday. so I think i'm going to pick it up at that price point. that's a pretty good deal imo considering the length of the game. I'll feel just like in home, lol :p I really like how Episode Two is sounding. The only thing I'm not too hot on is more puzzles... I don't mind puzzles in FPS games, but in Half-Life games they're just so tedious. Half-Life 2's puzzles weren't as bad because they weren't as long and boring, but Episode One had an entire level for just one puzzle!
Oompa
It did? What level was that? I certainly don't remember it.
idioot
me neither... maybe he means that the reactor level was a puzzle? There was also fighting.

theyarecomingforyou
He' talking about the multi-level garage section with the ant lions, I think. The ant lions were really lame... so were the citadel puzzles. I just found it tedious rather than enjoyable. Episode One lacked real open battles, instead being very confined and always playing out the same way. I honestly wonder how HL2's very straight-forward gameplay is meant to compete against cutting edge games like Prey and Crysis. Episode Two looks a lot more promising than Episode One, though the AI looks to remain dreadful - in HL1 the enemies actual seemed like real people and acted to lifelike for the time; the problem with HL2 is not that the AI hasn't improved, it's that in comparison to the competition it is really far behind. Valve need to inject life into the game if they hope to compete with the innovation coming from the rest of the industry and I am doubtful that they can. Ayepecks
me neither... maybe he means that the reactor level was a puzzle? There was also fighting. Reactor level: 99.999999% puzzle 00.000001% fighting And there were other levels that were 50/50, which really needs to be better balanced towards fighting. Oompa
I thought the reactor was a mix of puzzle and battle. It was a very EASY puzzle, with combine trying to stop you.
Ayepecks
That's just your oppinion. I never felt like there were too many puzzles Well obviously it's my opinion -- that goes without saying. I never claimed it to be fact.
crimsonhead
Some of the puzzles were annoying. If they want to slow you down, they just put trip mines in every direction and explosive barrels everywhere. If they're gonna do that, they should at least give you the SLAM. :(
Rix
Wheres the power box in the trainstation section? I need to open that door :/
DirtyLarry Veteran Posted June 20, 2006 Author Veteran Share Posted June 20, 2006 Wheres the power box in the trainstation section? I need to open that door :/ If I remember correctly that is the part where you go through the Air Duct to get into the office. If you have not done that, that air duct is right down towards the ground on your left if you are looking at Alyx. Then go through there, use your gravity gun to get some items by the dead body in the ducts (including a flare to light the way) then fight some head crabs when you fall on the ground, get some ammo and the gun (and maybe shotgun if I recall right) and the Power Box itself is on the left wall if you are looking at the door that Alyx is still behind. Just press E to activate it.
