What do you guys all use it for? I see no real purpose of google earth apart from a 15min look-around.

- Research and Studies.

- Holiday planning (find out where your relatives live in places you have never been before).

- Uncover unknown places. Around where I live, I've never knewn that there were more roads around town.

I wish they'd make it so that it finds out where you are and use that as a start point without going to the USA as a start point everytime I start it up.

It's invaluable in our office - we're an accident management company so we use it to get information on the accident scene - road layouts, markings etc.

Not sure I like the update - seems a little jerky on one machine, and won't even install on another... plus a lot slower?

Common questions about Google Earth

1. When were these pictures taken? How often are they updated?

Our images are photographs taken by satellites and aircraft sometime in the last three years. The images in Google Earth are updated on a rolling basis. Click here for more details.

2. Are Google Earth images captured in real time?

No, they aren't. Our images are photographs taken by satellites and aircraft sometime in the last three years.

I wonder how big it is. I'll guess, 125GB.

I have heard in the TB range, but unless Google says so, we all just have to guess.

Yeah, a lot slower on my machine, i found increasing the memory cache sped it up a bit (the default is 64MB, at 128 or 256 it's faster, but not as fast as v3)

Yeah... no there isn't, not even the US government has a real-time version (yes they have the spy satellites, but they aren't all geosynchronous and take some time to get into position)

Yeah, too bad they dont.. Would be hella sweet. :shiftyninja:

amazing what people will say when they have no idea what they are talking about. the real-time version updates every 7-10 minutes in most cases there are a few places that update every 24 hours. the last time I knew the price was around $4000. enough said.

Sounds like you do not know what you're talking about?

It can.

Find your prefered default place. Then _right_ click on "default location" in the left nav ( or whatever it says), and press, "snapshot view"

Tada!
