Windows Vista Build 5456 Released

this bulid isn't plubic. i know, it should have been. a lot of talk is around saying this new bulid should have been the plubic bulid.

It's not public so I cannot get it? I don't see anything wrong since the beta is basically free. Can someone send me a message on where I can get this. I found teh 32bit but I want to try the 64bit. The public beta has so much bugs i don't see why they released it.

Your questions were answered on the first page of this thread.

That's not the way to do it. File your bugs about the crashes, but continue to fight the storm. If every tester did that when they had showstopper bugs, then not alot of the would get fixed; not would they?

Yeah I sent bug reports. Main reason why I had to go back to B2 was that there were so many new bugs in Media Center that it was impossible to use it. Windows itself was really stable and alot faster than B2.

Yea I think its still lame, Microsoft needs to hire some real designers, or hire a better person to overlook them, cuz whoevers fault it is, everything is lookin like crap. This OS has def took a turn for the worse.

I am a "REAL" designer, I think vista looks great. Be more specific, what dont you like. I think your avatar is tacky, but thats just my opinion, hehe.

now I know reading 13+ pages is hard but its worth it. and on every page theres at least one post that says its NOT public.you will just have to wait till the public RC1 bulid which should come out in late july / early august.

:)

I think your situation is just unique.... since every other review on the net for build 5456 indicates that it's faster than ever taking around 20-30 minutes to install.

Installation is faster, I said that an upgrade install was slower, not a clean install. The clean install is much faster than any other build that I have used.

I think that the question about the public using it and public keys would be best answered if someone confirms that they cannot only install but activate windows using a public key. Those who are eager to test the next build can worry about getting the ISO on their own, but they are probably looking for an answer or confirmation about activation.

Existing CPP keys for beta 2 *will* work (both for install and for activation) with 5456.

There are several improvements in this build compared to the CPP:

Application performance throughout the operating system has improved (especially in Windows Media Center).

You can now also track Services (as well as applications) via Task Manager.

RAM footprint has declined by twenty percent over B2.

Windows Media Center: DTV tuner cards (example: ATI HDTV Wonder) can now be used without requiring a primary NTSC tuner card or NTSC support (NEW).

Flash Player 8 no longer causes IE 7+ to crash.

Windows Media Center: TV and DVD playback/recording are now a single application.

Windows Media Center: The EPG now works properly (I personally submitted two bugs against this issue concerning the CPP; I can confirm that this is now fixed).

Windows Media Center: Due to Aero/DWM improvements in this build, running WMC windowed no longer results in unacceptable performance loss with Aero Glass enabled, even on systems with 1 GB of RAM.

Stability has improved over the CPP, especially in terms of IE 7+.

Some of this Paul Thurott has commented on in his own review of this build; the remainder are my own observations.

What bugs did you see in Media Center? So far, 5456 is the first build in which (for me) Media Center was really usable (at least for my TV tuner card, ATI's HDTV Wonder). While the modified KRAM drivers let me use it with the CPP, performance sucked, and EPG issues made it worse. With 5456, both EPG bugs are gone, and performance is vastly increased (especially running Media Center in a window). For once, I don't miss Media Center Edition 2005 (which changes with ATI's Catalyst drivers forced me to drop), and I didn't dare run MCE 2005's Media Center windowed.

Nicely noticed ;-)

You will be able to use the update function from XP (there is talk of the last RC being updatable, but I'm not sure, have to ask John next time I see him) in October. This is a download of the final product as is going to enterprise :)

Chris

Actually, you could use it with either a clean or upgrade install with any of the last few builds (I've done so with the last three, including both the CPP and 5456); in all three cases I did a clean install (dual-boot setup). The option, in fact, dates back to Windows XP (though, AFAIK, XP never used it). I mounted the ISO in all three cases using D-Tools (and did the install from XP) selecting Update+Clean Install. This build is a definite winner.

Thats weird, I'm having it exactly the other way. Works like a dream in Beta 2, never gave any errors or crashed (exept that AC3 sound doesn't work in some older xvids/divx movies), also performance is as good as in MCE 2005. But I only use Media Center for Xvid, Music and DVD's, havent tried TV tuner. In 5456 most of the time when adding media into library those dont appear until reboot, and sometimes everything dissappeares from video or music library. Also some Xvids played like 4x speed. On top of that I couldn't get Widescreen TV out to work (that option was greyed out in 5456) and occasional Media Center crashes when launching it or navigating menus. But good thing was that AC3 bug is fixed in 5456.

I bet he got it inlegaly. or from those damn torrents

Oh no! A non-UBER, non-BETA tester got a beta tester only build.

Get over it please. It happens, and it's not going away so get over it. Not saying it's right... I'm just saying let it go, because you can't do squat about it.

For Christ's sake it's just a BETA!

I was amazed with the installion, it took roughly 16 or let me be more percised 16m and 54 seconds to complete and thats a record for me with installing Windows . I had the "Stopwatch" because i want to see if the installion is quicker than the previous build so far and the results are great.

I have a question regarding some strange files showing up on my User Account, some of them seem to be in use so i was wondering if anyone got those too.. pic included

I have them too, in all accounts but users\public. Since Users and ProgramData have replaced Documents & Settings, that's not really surprising to see GUID based temporary files.

    • Alien Isolation 2 will bring a new protagonist and setting, watch the reveal trailer here by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Creative Assembly dropped a teaser for a new Alien Isolation. Today at Summer Game Fest, Alien: Isolation 2 was officially announced with a new trailer while also confirming a whole lot of information about the setting of this survival horror project. Check out the reveal trailer above. Leaving behind the Sevastopol space station, the sequel will take players to a remote colony world. With a Xenomorph (or more) on the loose, players will be navigating both the surface of the weather-ravaged planet as well as "the claustrophobic confines of the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station." Interestingly, Creative Assembly is leaving behind Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien's Ellen Ripley, as the protagonist too. While it hasn't confirmed a name yet, players will be taking the role of a new character for this new adventure. The setting is also being described as a new hunting ground for the Alien. This will have players improvising and developing new tools to aid in their survival and escape, all to avoid "cinema’s deadliest killer." "It has been over a decade since we created the original Alien: Isolation and I am so excited to show everyone the first glimpse of the sequel," says Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Our dedicated Survival team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer." Promising the same deadly tension from the original from over a decade ago, Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced yet.

    • Like the article stated, it's written completely from scratch, unlike the umpteen Chromium clones. It got its start as the browser built-in to the also written-from-scratch SerenityOS.
    • Hello, From looking at the screen shots in your motherboard's manual at https://endownload.colorful.cn/EnDownload/MotherBroard/2022/Intel 600/Manual/Intel 600 Series BIOS English/Intel 600 Series BIOS User Guide.pdf, you go to the ADVANCED option at the top of the BIOS (UEFI) menu, then select SECURITY in the list of options on the left.  From there  you can enable and set the Secure Boot mode.
