That looks very nice, still looks quite 'Apple Mac' though.

No Wonder they think Vista looks like OSX.. >.> Nobody can come up with a truly original, practical design.

I guess it's because of the background wallpaper. :)

The wallpaper's are nice, but I wouldn't say they make it look like Mac OS X. It's not easy to develop a different yet practical design. Especially when everyone is familiar with the point-and-click desktop, icons, windows GUI.

And my ideas and pictures of Rome:

Windows Rome Desktop

Rome Desktop is clear. At the bottom you can see an InfoBar, a horizontal bar that gives you informations about your computer.

Boxes in InfoBar are InfoBoxes. The 4th box is QuickLaunch bar. A bar at the top of InfoBox is Taskbar. Taskbar is same as in Vista with LivePreview when your mouse cursor is over the button on Taskbar. Picture on bottom left is your user picture and when you click it a Start menu is opened. On the top of the screen is Search&Run Box. You can type anything you want to search and run it from Search results, or you can type etc. calc and press enter and the Calculator will open. On desktop you can add files, shortcuts or any type of files.

Windows Rome Start Menu

Start Menu is simple. When you click your user picture, a Start Menu is opened, and the picture is glowing. On the left side are system folders(like Pictures & Videos) and system programs(like Control Panel) and on right is your Internet and E-mail program, and recently used programs.

Windows Rome Pictures&Video folder

A Pictures&Video folder looks like all folders in Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer has the same Details pane on the bottom, and Favorite Links on the left. Selected file's icon(in this case picture) is bigger than other ones. An icon zooming effect is the same as in Windows Media Center.

I hope you like my idea :D

Hi all!

Here is a little mockup I tried!

Description:

Window Group: I think it would be nice if you could group your windows by dragging them together (not the automatic grouping XP tries ;) )

Search&Run: Performs a search on your harddrive (just Program Files directory?). You can rate your favorite entries to get them more up in the list the next time you search. Also through the "T" icon you can add keywords that are used to find your Files.

Alternatively you can drag your favorite files in the "My Favorites" panel to get quick access to them.

The "More" button would open something that would be like your Start->Programms menu is today but, of course, more "romish" ;) .

I hope you like it!

PS: Inspired by ADvert's mockup

    • Ridiculous claim that the labor cost difference of $6000 annually would increase cost per phone by $200. The employees produce 3 phones per month or what?
