Pirated Vista may be useless, Microsoft says

i think you need ms spellcheck. 'does'?

OMFG OHHH NOES it is the spelling policez0rz ahhhh run,, ummm yea he wrote out that whole story and the only thing you comment on is how he spells one word, LOL that is lame, sorry but that is really lame

does is a word by the way because you cant really say that someone do's something or dos something unless your talking about DOS.

Ok back on topic,

Now if MS say this version of Vista will be useless they have to be joking. I have seen code around that will reset that 30 "grace" period and heck it is really simple to do, not that i have done it because my version of RTM would not work but hey i don't care i just wanted to give it a go and get the hang of it before it get released properly to the world. I don't think there is anything wrong with trying something, heck i have even thought about saving up to buy my copy :), the only downer about the whole thing is the licenses because i wont be able to install vista on my current machine and on my new machine that im building up witch it stink but hey im going to just have to put up with it weather i like it or not

You do realize that without WGA and Activation, any idiot could get pirated Windows. You would have 10 people putting money together and buying one license and all using it. Licenses would be traded among friends like songs on limewire. Then Microsoft will see real declines in profits.

Yeah, that's why Microsoft enjoyed their biggest year-over-year growth and operating system market share gains from 1995-2001 with versions of Windows that "any idiot could get" and a huge decline in Windows sales and a sagging stock price from 2001-2006 with the birth of WGA and Activation.

Bill Gates wealth in 1999: $99 billion

Bill Gates wealth in 2006: $53 billion

That WGA and Activation sure is working wonders for them.

Don't forget that Bill is perhaps the biggest philanthropist of our time. Probably not 46 billion worth, but remember 1999 was before the dot com burst.

I think it is merely relating to the fact that there are alot of bug fixes to come, either that or the fact that some of the torrents are basically RC2 rebranded

so it's not final code because of the bug fixes to come?

i wonder when XP will be final code....

I own 2 computers and yes when the time is right I will buy a license for both of them.
have fun with that....I'll sure enjoy the extra 300 bucks in my wallet instead

M$ still has no clue what it means to be a monopoly...they are the only ones that support 99% of software out there. And since there is really only 1 big OS, thousands of crackers around the world will focus on this 1 OS. Remove all validation checks and prevent Vista from checking online....simple as that

petty thief....meh, I've been called much worse

Windows Vista Volume Activation 2.0

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/plan/faq.mspx

MAK activation uses a technology similar to that in use with MSDN Universal and Microsoft Action Pack subscriptions. Each product key can activate a specific number of computers. MAK activation is required only once, unless there are significant hardware changes. If the use of volume-licensed media is not controlled, excessive activations result in a depletion of the activation limit.

There are two ways to activate computers using MAK:

? MAK Proxy Activation: Enables centralized activation request on behalf of multiple desktops with one connection to Microsoft. MAK Proxy Activation will be available in the solution code name Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) which is currently under development with expected availability in 2007.

? MAK Independent Activation: Requires each target computer to independently connect and activate against Microsoft.

Key Management Service (KMS) enables organizations to perform local activations for computers in a managed environment without the need to connect to Microsoft. A KMS key is used to enable KMS on a computer controlled by the system administrator in an organization. KMS activation is targeted at managed environments where more than 25 computers are connected to the organizational network. Computers running Windows Vista activate by connecting to a central Windows Vista computer running KMS.

In case of KMS activation, client computers must connect to a KMS host at least once every 180 days to renew their activation. Computers that are not activated try to connect with the KMS host every two hours (value configurable). Once activated, these computers attempt to renew their activation (locally) every seven days (value configurable), and if successful, their 180-day activation life span is renewed.

The computers locate the KMS host using one of the following two methods:

? Auto-discovery: The computer uses Domain Name System (DNS) service records to automatically locate a local KMS host.

? Direct connection: A system administrator specifies the KMS host location and communication port

The client computers have a 30-day grace period to complete the activation. Computers that are not activated within this grace period go into Reduced Functionality Mode (RFM).

why dont you learn to read, here's a couple quotes from my spellchecked post

"And for does that still cry's out "

"i dont like myself paying does fee's"

btw it's 'no' not 'noes'

LOL @ you getting mad at that post, please dont punch the screen

i think microsoft has some anti piracy feature built into vista but yet haven't turned it on remotely. all the pirated version will get a big surprise soon

could be, but you honestly dont think hackers will have a workaround for that in couple days if not a couple hours?

I understand Microsoft wanting to save face...but again they will lose in the long run just like they did with XP..the only ones that will actually suffer are the 'legitimate' users.....Vista will only be useless to a 'pirate' if he is too lazy to click 'search' or 'download now'......Microsoft will still make 'Millions' in profits....just not the 'Billions' they wanted like the Oil Companies.

 I don't think it ever will be.

until they drop support for xp

that will be the day for the final code

Microsoft should just STFU and deal with it.. Damn if it was not for the Pirates, Hackers, Beta testers Microsoft would not have a good OS in the first place.. the way I see it is Microsoft should pay everyone who was Involved in the Vista Creation since it was mostley US the Beta testers, Hackers, Pirates who made Vista what it is today...

so Microsoft I want $50.00 US for every copy of Vista you sell since I helped out in the beta testing and reported bugs.. If i did not report bugs you guys would still have a evan more buggy OS.. and this should go with EVERY BETA TESTER, HACKER, Pirate who gave there input on vista and reported bugs to Microsoft.. if it was not for all of us doing so then Vista would not be here. and Microsoft would not be making the money they will be makeing once Vista ships....

lol @ microsoft

the day they let me buy a copy of windows for $400 and i can use it on at least 10 pcs then ill buy it, until then ill just try to get it some other way, education, free, from work, etc. They just dont get it, one PC is NOT enough, many people have more than 2 PCs at home. In my case i have 3 laptops and 2 desktops.

(and I yes i want Ultimate, i use IIS, backup, MCE, remote desktop and all that crap, so dont tell me i dont need Ultimate)

I am with you on that.

TOTALLY AGREE! i always thought it funny that people would help microsoft. i mean , you guys dont even get a free copy for the work spent

And for does that still cry's out there if you dont like microsoft like you guys seem to make us think and if you are such a fan of linux or mac or any other operating system why is it you can't live without M$ software.

The people that WOULD love to live WITHOUT MS are usually GAMERS who HATE Microsoft, but love gaming. Game Developers need to embrace the Linux world, realize that there IS a market for it, and save us from the monster that is Microsoft. Now, if only the game dev's would take a page out of id's book and make Linux clients for their games. I personally bought Quake 4 for no other reason other than it was made available to the Linux community almost right out of the gate.

Microsoft has a long history of threatening bold actions and then capitulating . We have to wait for Vista's release and then analyse the trend by 2007-end whether Microsoft has been really successful in dealing with Vista anti piracy measures. As of now , I am just keeping my fingers crossed.

Even if a proper keygen is created, it wouldn't matter. The little perks, such as Ultimate Extras, and many of the non-critical updates will most likely not be available to the pirates because MS will check and black list keys.

My key is blacklisted and I've still got all the extras MS have released for XP. Hell, validation in the install routine can be bypassed by importing a set of registry keys. Couldn't be any more painless.

Ms is protecting their property?! When I pay for it, it's MY property and I should be able to do whatever I want with it! If I don't want WGA installed, I should be able to remove it! The only one it hurts is the paying customers.

Read the EULA...you're paying for a license to make use of Microsoft's intellectual property as permitted by the EULA. Sure, it should be considered our property, and you can blame our governments for not implementing ownership laws which favour the consumer.

So having the OS update itself automatically without human interaction is not more painless to you?
